I just realized that this could totally become a skin in MW3 since Microsoft now owns Activision-Blizzard. The weapon is in MW2, but those thankfully carried over anyway. would be nice to have a classic Halo zoom on it, too.
When you ADS it should have the blue HUD reticle since they don't use iron sights in game (though the weapons *do* have them, HUD technology just makes them irrelevant).
11:23 How every marine feels when you take their good weapon and trade them a plasma pistol. Like Johnson if you take his sniper rifle on Metropolis and he says “I thought we were friends!”
I think Halo 2 was pretty smart... Bungie wanted the weapons to be slightly more believable without changing their roles, so the magnum became the BR (which was going to be single-fire initially) and the AR became the SMG (which it pretty much already was).
I think the way the ammo counters work is they have base ammo value once the mag is inserted and there is a sensor in the housing that tracks for each time the bolt travels back for an accurate count of how many rounds were fired.
Position sensor tied to the follower in the mag. Some mags have clear sides, an orange tab on the follower, and numbers written on the side; if the tab is next to the 10 mark then you have 10 rounds left. You can use a position sensor to do the same thing. Instead of marks every 5 rounds, you have a mark (which the sensor reads instead of your eyes) for every round. When the follower's at the bottom of a full mag, the sensor would "be at position 30" and slowly count down to "position 0" as it travels upward with each round fired; this data would be output to the gun computer which would send it to the ammo counter display. That way it'd work with different magazines of various loadings, if you insert a mag of 30 it would display 30, if you insert a mag of only 5 rounds the counter would display 5. I designed an accurate ammo-counter system in my spare time in engineering class with another veteran student, but I lack the time & funding to start building it. If given the opportunity, I'd want to test the technology on something with relatively low force yield like a Nerf gun before moving into testing with real firearms.
@@TheEpicDartfishThat's probably be my next stepping point if I actually went through with it. The only issue I see off the bat is how weird airsoft mags are because of the spherical BB shape. Then again I'm def overthinking things, and this would only work for normal mid-cap mags (no hi-caps with windup) so don't take my word for it. I'd like to go Nerf ---> Airsoft ---> .22lr ---> pistol rounds ---> rifle rounds. That way I could start with the fundamentals, experiment with how everything works, "iron out the kinks" early on, etc. Then I'd be able to make them more robust in order to handle the forces of firearms (starting small and working to big ones with more recoil). Again, this is just a hypothetical hobby project I'd like to do in my freetime

There’s this guy who made an actual game accurate Halo Battle Rifle. I think you gotta shoot that one next. I know you did the battle rifle before, but this one looks EXACTLY like the game.
All that's needed to make it fully lore accurate is rigging up maybe some kind of camera that is connected to a screen in the helmet that gives you your sight picture. Since I believe, canonically, all marines have an augmented reality setup in their helmets that links with the electronics in their weapon to project a sight picture in their vision without needing to have physical optics/needing to line up their face with the optics.
I once heard a story that someone asked the team at Bungie if the MA5B was inspired by the FN F2000 because of how similar they look. I wasn't because the game pre-dates the rifle but they did remark on the resemblance.
The fact that some sweaty Halo nerds almost got an ammo counter to work in a few days... really makes me think that making one from a legit science ass lab or firearm RnD department could make one pretty flawless in the confines of a year.

I feel like a reliable way to tell the amount of rounds in the magazine would be to put wires on either side of the magazine, with a wire inside the follower, and contact strips on either side of the follower that touch the wires on the side of the magazine. Then as the magazine empties the follower moving up the magazine changes the length of the circuit; changing the resistance in the circuit; thus telling you the position of the follower, and allowing you to deduce how many rounds are left. Magazine well would need contacts to the wires in the top sides of the magazine to complete the circuit. When a magazine isn't present, that would also mean that the circuit would be incomplete, thus the counter could show a "No magazine detected" message. Edit: I guess the major issue would be carbon and dirt build-up. Would need a way to conceal the contacts and wires running up the insides of the magazine so that they were protected from carbon and dirt build-up blocking or changing the resistance in the circuit.
Also using the mag to detect ammo count would probably be more accurate also this isn't the first full auto Halo AR, there was one built a few years back
