Incredibly excited to watch this one in less than twenty four hours. I’ve been going through a lot of Fincher’s filmography over the past week, and I kind of forgot how great films like Fight Club, Gone Girl, and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo are. I wouldn’t call any of those some of my favorites, but that doesn’t take away how well they’re done when it comes to the writing, acting, and direction.
When Fassbender was watching Tilda from his car I was like oh that spot looks just like the one I drive by, then the next day I find out the movie was indeed shot in St Charles Illinois... so yeah it was the same spot lol
The scene where he was waiting outside her house was filmed in River Forest, Illinois right near my house. When she went to the Waterfront hotel restaurant, that was filmed in St. Charles. By the way, those movie lights really make the trees look beautiful at night.
Let’s gooo been waiting on this one! Making my way thru most of Fincher’s filmography for my first time the last week has made me excited to watch a brand new one, so can’t wait to watch it tomorrow, hope I really enjoy it 🔥👍
I like how reviewers just can't say it wasn't a good movie because of the director. This is easily his worst film. As a fan i wouldn't recommend it. It walks around kills a half a dozen people and spares the last dude the end. The entire movie
Not sequel but prequel.Michael fassbender played an assassin in “Haywire”feat Gina Carano but yeah, would love to see his beginnings from contractor to elite killer
Just watched. The main thing I think as the end credits go up is........ I want a sequel!!! Super cool film. Fassbender its so good hes back. Hes been missed!
This film is actually more than just a lean thriller. I liked how it doesn’t hold your hand and hammer down its themes or plot to the viewer. + u said it wasn’t a dark comedy but there’s plenty of dark humor in the movie. A running joke is the killer so meticulous but then his plans don’t actually work. Nail gun scene. He’s like “should have 7 minutes….fuck” I laughed out loud at that part.
“Doesn’t hold your hand and hammer down its themes or plot to the viewer.” I mean, this movie doesn’t really have that much of themes or plot to begin with. It’s style over substance in my opinion.
I enjoyed the movie. It's very slow in the beginning to allow you to figure out what kind of person the film is about but once the pace picks up it is pretty relentless and makes you feel like a fly on the wall following this character around constantly wondering whats coming next as Sean said. Only downside is its pretty one dimentional. There's no character arc or change in perspectives but the protagonist is well written and narrated with great performances and technical film making all round
Finished it last night I think they did a great job on it, I like how they used music as a form of relaxation and the sound is great from the panning of the headphones to out using the smiths was a great late added choice
SPOILERS: Just finished it. I thought this was a good film. I know some will say that for his motto in the film to be “show no empathy” he does actions that shows that he cares to punish the people that wronged him. Empathy by definition is the ability to understand the feelings of others. I feel like he really didn’t show that except for maybe Delores. He still wanted her to go but he did her the one curtsey she asked which was to make it look like an accident. Other then her he really didn’t care about the feelings of others. He showed no compassion to any of his victims. Compassion would be sympathizing with the victims. At the end when he meets with the client at the penthouse. He lets him go because he is perceptive and knows he wasn’t lying when he said it he just paid to have it cleaned up and didn’t ask questions. Just how he knew his employer was lying about physical records and knowing “nothing”. Excellent film but it starts slow.
I thought he left the last guy alive because he's a billionaire, hence the line about police putting in effort according to the victims net worth (to paraphrase lol). I thought the film had a lot of missed potential and could've been better, or rather more cohesive thematically, but it's still pretty dang good.
@@notaspeck6104 I saw someone mention he was a billionaire so he left him alone. Personally i don’t get that way of thinking because the first guy that he misses to kill seems like he was in a foreign government. I mean hell he had better security than the billionaire. So i just doubt that he would take out a guy possibly in the government somewhere but draw the line at someones net worth.
I was worried at first cause the movie starts out a bit slow. Was literally thinking there’s no way a theatrical release could start like this. But after the opening sequence, I was pretty engaged all the way through. Lots of dark humor in this one kept the pace going well. Didn’t know it was a Fincher movie until I literally pulled up your video lol
I’ve watched it 3 times already and thought it was great, getting into the mind of an elite killer, his thoughts, planning meticulously to the most minute detail & knowing that empathy and compassion will get you killed.the fight in close quarters was absolutely brutal😊
The most expensive, the most professional, the most elusive, the most heartless, the most self-absorbed killer in the world. For thirty minutes, in the deadly voice of a dizzy old lady, the main hero explains his life motto (don't wear white, don't wear tight), meaning "follow the plan, don't improvise...," The Main Hero sees himself as a master of disguise. Invisibility. "I'm just like you. I'm one of you." Despite this, he looks like an exhibitionist on a playground: wearing Johnny Depp glasses from the movie Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, a kinky Panama hat, and a long coat ready to open up and entertain the crowd, like a flashy magician's cape. This guy, whose whole appearance screams, "I'm a maniac (voyeur, killer, terrorist-choose your own) with tense cheekbones," proudly towers over short Chinese tourists. He hangs around all day like a shark in front of potential victims, but they just politely turn away-nope, don't see anything. The Main Hero poses in front of camera lenses, but they shy away from capturing his unremarkable identity. His car waits in front of the next victim's house, and no one pays attention to it. Now that's skill! Chameleons would fall off their palms out of envy.
Cant wait I've been rewatching all the David fincher movies in preparation and this looks great Edit: watched it it's really good not top tier fincher but a solid thriller
This was a great , thrilling experience. 5dudes. Best Fassbender since the Counselor, Eden lake. Best Fincher since 7. Great cinematography in this one(the killer).
Gotta disagree about this not having layers. I saw this as pretty clearly Fincher satirizing the hitman/assassin subgenre. I mean the opening scene has the assassin bragging about his ability to tolerate boredom and them promptly falling asleep lol. Then as the story progresses it’s only once he gets out of his own head (and ass) and realizes that his isn’t some 1 in a million predator that he stops messing up and actually accomplishes his mission. He meets the different Bond villain archetypes that love to monologue, another example of satiating the genre. And the film even ends with him admitting that he’s just “one of the many”.
Enjoyed the movie a lot 👏👏 although someone of his stealth options would definitely not work in real life, for instance changing number plates, here in Australia we have cameras that constantly take pictures of your number plates and make sure they match up with the car model and any discrepancy cops are automatically notified, so this would definitely not work in Australia 😂😂
For me Rope was a good Hitchcock movie not great.40 years after i first saw it i think it's one of it's best.Maybe The Killer grows on you like Rope did for me.
Hey Sean did you know that your name Sean means old in Irish whereas Seán means John. I suspect Sean Youngs parents knew wat they were doing while Shawn Bean changing his name was well aware.
I don’t think I’ve really enjoyed many of Finchers movies. Saw Fight Club in high school, and while my classmates liked it, I just found it ok. Seven is probably is best one, but it’s a bit too macabre for my liking
Oh man overall it was a disappointment. He kills people he shouldn’t have and doesn’t kill one person he should have. There are other problems with it .
This was just.... too dark for me, even for Fincher. His other movies about killers don't have them as the main character. This was just a series of him killing people again and again until he got to his objective; it was kind of redundant. Redundant in a way that was just... way too bleak and realistic in its violence. I felt gross walking out of the theater. Great evenly matched fight with the one big guy, though. THAT'S the kind of violence I like in films.
"The Killer" is great from a technical point of view, but its plot is, unfortunately, mediocre. I never want to watch it again. I can't hide my disappointment that The Killer isn't as good as I wanted it to be. One of the director's most boring films.
Sorry but what a terrible review. "Each conflict overlaps and it kinda keeps that pattern..." oh, so the film has pacing, which is what it should have anyway?
Ye it’s a bunch of nonsense monologue trying to sound deep. This review is as vague and bland as the movie. But that’s pretty much every netflix movie lol
"WWJWBD, what would John Wilkes Booth do?"
Loved the dry sarcastic monologues.
Incredibly excited to watch this one in less than twenty four hours. Exactly and agreed🔥
Fincher is another kind of director… his movies are strange yet beautiful

Just watched it. Great movie. Great character development. Fight seen was crazy. Wonder if there will be a sequel. 👍🏻
Just because it’s a good movie DOES not mean it needs a sequel. People need to understand that.
@@NoManSly I hear you. It was such a great character. I want to see more.
I like how reviewers just can't say it wasn't a good movie because of the director. This is easily his worst film. As a fan i wouldn't recommend it. It walks around kills a half a dozen people and spares the last dude the end. The entire movie

Cannot wait for this! Fincher is one of my all time favorites and this looks like a great addition to his incredible filmography
I like Fincher and Fassbender but this movie doesn’t go anywhere interesting. It’s a pleasant snooze. That’s all.
This film is actually more than just a lean thriller. I liked how it doesn’t hold your hand and hammer down its themes or plot to the viewer.

"amongst the normies"
And Tilda Swinton's story about the bear... I was like wtf but it got a good chuckle out of me.
“Doesn’t hold your hand and hammer down its themes or plot to the viewer.”
I mean, this movie doesn’t really have that much of themes or plot to begin with. It’s style over substance in my opinion.
I absolutely loved this movie. This is my favorite David Fincher film alongside Social Network.

I thought it was about a serial killer but it's actually about an assassin. I don't think that's nearly as interesting
Tbf, Fincher’s done the serial killer film twice now. Ig it would be interesting to have the serial killer trilogy from him…
just yesterday i watched american psycho for the first time what are the odds
Did you go & return some videotapes?..
This is absolutely a comedy and if you missed that, the joke is on you
