A guy who psyches himself up about how cool and professional he is and not like "the normies" before fucking up and scrambling to clean up his mess? The Killer literally IS me!
I'm pissed off with how Netflix releases movies on their service with little attention given to theaters, because a new David Fincher movie should've been a huge talking point but it came and went with how quickly everyone saw the movie. There wasn't any longevity or anticipation to aid discussion.
Yeah it’s really frustrating and I hate that so many people missed it in theaters. I miraculously remembered the movie being announced and decided to check the release and was able to see it was in theaters. Great viewing experience and I agree with the point in the video that streaming makes things seem more like content especially after rewatching in streaming.
Kind of unrelated to this movie but not to the "literally me" meme. You should look at the case of Ethan Windom, a 16 year old who dressed in suits, carried a briefcase and imitated the exact same skincare routine as Bateman. Kept a day planner where he would write about killing the people he meet that day. Anyway he ended up brutally murdering his mother and in the subsequent police interrogation he ends up saying he will give a confession if he gets the same french cologne as Bateman. Really crazy stuff. And keep in mind all this happened in 2007. So way before all the memes and such. The whole interrogation video can be found on youtube. The whole thing is just so bizarre.
I think he spared the Client because 1) As you said, the blowback from killing such a high-profile person would put himself and his girlfriend in jeopardy. He did go there without any ammo after all, so he must’ve anticipated that he wasn’t going to end up killing him. 2) Upon finally coming face to face with the Client, truly one of the few who take advantage of the many, he realises that he’s even more of a clueless loser than himself. This is why the Killer accepts being one of the many, because if the alternative is being like the Client, then he’d rather be a sheep.
He left Clayborne alive so that he can continue working for him, or at least using him a resource. When the Killer's eye twitches at the end of the move it's a tell that he's not done.
The killer's eye twitches in the middle of the movie during the Lawyer chapter, the moment it twitches contradicts your interpretation, the point is he doesn't like where he ended up.
I think his eye twitches when he’s being mentally affected by his actions. He likes to think he can switch off his empathy and return from his job to a peaceful life with his partner, but when Deloris begs that eye twitch shows that deep down he feels some empathy. This is why he agrees to killing her in the way that he died; it’s his version of kindness. Therefore, I think the twitch at the end is just meant to show that he is more traumatised by what he’s done that he’d like to think, but he still shuts his eyes right after, showing that he’ll still make an effort to leave the life of crime behind. Fassbender rarely blinks in the film, so him shutting his eyes is a big moment for him as he’s finally accepting that he’s not cut out for the life. (It is crazy how so many people have completely opposite interpretations of the film, but that’s kind of why I love it.)
Have you even watched the movie? It is made very clear that he lets him live because the consequences of Killing such a rich man would be Way too troublesome and not worth it.
This is me. Literally me. No other character can come close to relating to me like this. There is no way you can convince me this is not me. This character could not possibly be anymore me. It's me, and nobody can convince me otherwise. If anyone approached me on the topic of this not possibly being me, then I immediately shut them down with overwhelming evidence that this character is me. This character is me, it is indisputable. Why anyone would try to argue that this character is not me is beyond me. If you held two pictures of me and this character side by side, you'd see no difference. I can safely look at this character every day and say "Yup, that's me". I can practically see this character every time I look at myself in the mirror. I go outside and people stop me to comment how similar I look and act to this character. I chuckle softly as I'm assured everyday this character is me in every way. I can smile each time I get out of bed every morning knowing that I've found my identity with this character and I know my place in this world. It's really quite funny how similar this character is to me, it's almost like we're identical twins. When I first saw this character, I had an existential crisis. What if this character was the real me and I was the fictional being. What if this character actual became aware of my existence? Did this character have the ability to become self aware itself?
Fun historical fact about bushido code, it was inspired by European concept of chivalry. But due to orientalism, it’s became so mystified and treated as this exotic and unique idea from Japan when in fact it’s a result of westernization of Japan during the Meiji era. lol
Bushido history is far older than that book written by Nitobe. He popularised it in the west and that's how we understand it and how japan sell it to us today.
If you notice everytime he breaks his code like giving the redhead a death with insurance money to her child and just goes to the Tilda Swinton at the bar without hesitation even tho it for sure isn't ideal. Everything goes smooth and he get's what he wants. Everytime he goes by the code there is something that makes everything go messed up, like with the Florida guy. The whole thing is from the get go from empathy, revenge, feelings towards the woman, he just cannot leave it even at the end and lives in misery after all said and done. It's almost like the whole mission was giving him hints of letting go from the mindstate. Still yes obviously the code works since he have never before botched a gig. Nonethless there clearly is some idea to why everything goes ok when he is at the last mission, almost like a divine intervention hinting to him to let the mindframe go. Even the paraller Swinton gives goes to this, like just let it go (even tho the character doesn't mean it that way, but it's kinda doubletalk for viewers too). I think he doesn't kill the last guy out of pure of not caring after seeing him. It's not so personal afterall with him and the killer look down on the guy. Still at the beach he is still not content, he says he doesn't care but haven't strayed from the mindframe and looks like he is haunted by all of the killing.
I think what’s interesting about this character, he’s not a real person. He has no personal traits. He has no real identity. What Patrick Bateman thinks of himself to be is who the killer actually actually is. Patrick says he has no clear identity but he plays the role of the businessman as his personality Claims he has no feelings only greed and disgust. but though out the entire Flim he’s an emotional wreck. He’s happy,Sad angry, jealous, vain, narcissistic. A psychopath pretending he’s not human when in fact he’s a human who’s a psychopath. But the killer can be literally anyone who abandons everything. He has morals he has a conscious but He completely let go of both, and only dose what is necessary to succeed. He has to remind himself at every corner not to be human because he is. People are saying it’s dumb. He’s an hypocrite but despite his contradictions he is human and has to work incredibly hard to suppress his humanity. He doesn’t have a name he doesn’t have a personality everything he is designed to be effective. Not everyone can be a psychopath but people can turn off their humanity. They just can’t keep it off. Anyone could become this, and that’s the scariest part. He was created by his work ethic and job and because of this he let go of everything personal and human, or so he tried. His human nature for revenge, Love and growth are all present. After the intro I was extremely shocked to find out he was married. You can see who he really is. Right there you can see he’s grey but thinks in black and white. Anyone was could become this with enough discipline, time and concentration they can become… the killer. He believes what he says the entire movie but can’t always act on it because he’s human just not at the personal level because off what he was trying to do he couldn’t allow himself to be emotional or take thing’s personally. However he dose. He kills out for revenge, he longs to be with his wife and doesn’t get paid for anyone he kills. Breaks all of his rules and knows this doubting himself mocking himself and even saying Fuck it and Ignoring everything he trained himself to be. In the end he becomes one of the many
Woah, one random sleepless day in summer, as a teenager. watching some old random french movie that after i finished watching, said "ok" and continued my day, did a lot of wonders in the long run in life.
You'd sooner lash out on the contractors for your mistake, take your anger out on a stranger, but to the higher ups you are nothing and your unemployment will only affect your family ;) For me Smiths work as the perfect ironic commentary on the main character's pose. Just like him: they seemingly say one thing, people take it seriously, but there's also something completely different behind it (in classic Morrissey fashion: weep boy but making fun of himself which ppl don't want to see). I mean the subversion of Fincher own style can be apparent. I mean, for me the first 15 minutes are straight from comedy! The guy tells you how awesome he is and at the end he fucks up his SHOT anyway. How many such corporate assholes I personally know from my work: people with a perfect philosophy of individualism, underpinned by quotes (they can't remember from whom) and names that are completely miscast. In fact the guy has one manual/instruction for his duties, and when it starts to fail he's like a child in a fog, like a lot self proclaimed specialists from finance I know ;) The ladder of who gets his ass kicked is what I've already written at start. In front of the client, he goes on trying to pretend to be strong and secure, but in these conditions he knows it's a pose and that's really the only person who can harm him in a long run. A man who has no idea who the protagonist is and doesn't care. Lots of comedy: the most sus names as aliases, unobtrusiveness as a philosophy, and snacking on a mcmuffin without a bun etc. He's just another insignificant cog in a system that he doesn't understand and has no access to. He thinks he's making an amazing retribution act but to the people at the top his 'sacking' was another day in the office for them and they don't even know who the hell he is or what he's about. All those boring mechanical actions with each kill, throwing away the gun instead of the 'pile of papers' after your assingment. It also seems to me as a meta commentary on how fight club characters have been idealised. Or even literally me characters in general: another fulfilling male virtue guy - coolness, lack of emotion, a certain life philosophy (all of which he breaks on screen), family. But in reality? Incompetence, saving himself with slogans and the disappointment he caused to his family as his burden (which he deflect by blaming others). Anyway, cool video! I have to watch your twin peaks series.
Yes, it's very much a dark comedy about being one among the masses. Complete with a glut of product placement. Other literally me movie often ended in a cathartic way: protagonist completes his total destruction or redemption. But the Killer™changes nothing. In that sense, The Killer. Is. Truly. Literally. Me.
At the first little mention of le samourai I paused the video and watched the whole thing just because it seemed cool, definitely worth a watch for anyone who liked the killer.
“The need to feel secure is a slippery slope. Fate is a placebo. The only life path, the one behind you. If in the brief time we’re all given you can’t accept this, then maybe you’re not one of the Few. Maybe you’re just like me, one of the Many.” The Killer
Theatical releases are only reserved for blockbusters it seems nowadays. You can't expect to make money with unconventional and devisive auteur films. Hence why they choose to find their niche audiences on streaming.
The Killer. A coming of age story with plenty of laughs and mischief for all the family. Micael Shrockenbrocker plays a washed up assassin who needs to learn the hard way, that he's not all he used to be.
This movie would have made a better Hitman movie. Michael Fassbender would have made a great agent 47. I liked the beginning of this film but it all feels like it’s leading to something and then it just ends.
I think you're completely off the mark about the bear story. In the story, the bear questions whether the hunter's repeated failure is an honest mistake, or whether he subconsciously has some ulterior motive (i.e. if he actually _wants_ to get sodomized). Q-Tip's insinuation is whether the Killer repeatedly breaking his rules is him simply being incompetent or, whether he's self-sabotaging on purpose. Maybe he subconsciously wants out of the business, and that's what results in his sudden-onset sloppiness.
I liked the movie, but i was left wishing for more. I think this would have been better if it was made into a series of episodes. It would have been cool to see some glimpses of his successful assassinations before leading up to the paris mistake for instance.
Far from my favorite Fincher film, probably ranks #5 or #6 on my list... but it's still a Fincher film and very good. Also the killer is actually literally me
I enjoyed it for what it was, but felt very 'so what' through most of it. He botched an assassination, then his girlfriend gets beat up? Ok. If she was killed i could understand his reaction, but I never felt any stakes. The girl is ok, and he is good at his job. I thought it was a thriller without tension, with some quirkyness thrown in for some reason. It wants to be cool and i felt it.
what through me off at first was him saying he claims that he chooses a modern camo to blend in the 21st century but then he proceeds to drive a silver jeep in Dominica Republica
Hey Kino, wouldn’t you know a film Where a child Lives in the middle of nowhere, his mom abuses physically of him, his dad commits suicide, his friends are killed one by one by a gang of young evil teens in a car, a white fetus in a barn and a cop with a patch?, i know that movie does not sound like something that would be real, but it is, i have seen it, i just dont know the name.
I love that the movie poster is supposed to be a police sketch of the killer. That’s not even what he looks like. It’s what people THINK he looks like.
Idk why people take literally me memes this seriously. People say it to any edgy character that's cool and mysterious with good dialog. Noone actually thinks it's them.
Idk how michael fassbender was able to accumulate that massive stockpile of weapons in different locations, mansion, and money for being so incompetent and sloppy the entire movie lol. Wish the movie showed him in his prime, nearly undetectable.
He’s not a psychopath, so he repeats his mantra to get in the zone, maybe someone teach him that mantra, or maybe is just what he wants to be or what he needs , at least is what he needs when working. But he gives a f on his personal life. The smiths it’s a strange choice for him because it’s not like the lyrics help you to enter into psycho mode. And maybe is Fincher talking about himself. The code also reflects how a big corporation behaves. I saw it twice and I didn’t find the comedy, I just thought o well, try no not give a f now, try to plan when you are facing not normys. He has a code and it’s seem to be working well till that day, and now it’s a wolf chased by wolves.
11:24 His Code actually does not work. He can’t turn off his humanity. And success is not simply financial. To assume that’s how the world works is to ignore the rest of the entire rest of living. If anything none of the hitmen are honorable. One must compare the success of a truly honorable man (let’s say a janitor you’ve never heard of who’s got God, a job, a family, and legacy) to a man with money and selfishness. People can give themselves to that lie and it’ll kill them rich or poor.
This is the first time watching one of your videos. When the video cut to your face for the ad read, I literally thought it was Justin Trudeau. The similarity is uncanny.
been waiting for this my kino corner tumour was twitching when i heard the maybe you're just like me line
Sigma rule #235 - monologue bullshit and immediately fuck up your plans.
I usually cringe when I hear movies and TV shows use "internet slang" but for some reason when micheal fassbender says "normies" it feels so natural.
A guy who psyches himself up about how cool and professional he is and not like "the normies" before fucking up and scrambling to clean up his mess?
The Killer literally IS me!
exactly. and thats what i like about that film.
As soon as he fucked up the assassination I knew he was one of us lol.
The dude realisies that he's a normie at the end. Lmao
Couldn't relate to the character until he screwed up.
Date night is cancelled honey. New Kino Kino just dropped
I'm pissed off with how Netflix releases movies on their service with little attention given to theaters, because a new David Fincher movie should've been a huge talking point but it came and went with how quickly everyone saw the movie. There wasn't any longevity or anticipation to aid discussion.
Yeah lmao I logged in on Netflix one day and saw a new David fincher movie I was flabbergasted lmao😂 the movie wasn’t that great tho
The Killer was available in select theaters but I agree it should’ve been out there more.
@@jekkijekster Didn't even hit a single theatre near me. Was disappointed about that.
Kind of unrelated to this movie but not to the "literally me" meme. Ethan probably even read the book
The nailgun is the funniest scene ever. He ain’t a smoker so should survi-
I've never thought abt it like that but next time I watch this movie its gonna be a riot 😭😭😭
Shit
I think he spared the Client because

this is the most Literally Me that has ever Literally Me'd
I wish he had made The Killer into an episodic series.
reading that graphic novel years ago changed my brain chemistry.. watching Fincher's adaptation reignited that chemical reaction.
This movie was just like a larping hitman greentext on pol. Even the outro song was There Is A Light That Never Goes Out.

Deep down, we are all Rich Evans.
Rich Evans is literally me.
Favorite movie of the year. It was fun, witty, well paced but not rushed, and a great inner monologue. I've rewatched it at least 4 times.
Ditto, shocked by the number of cinema heads that didn’t get the joke though!
Me 2 watching it now
This is me. Literally me. No other character can come close to relating to me like this. There is no way you can convince me this is not me. This character could not possibly be anymore me. AI, stop!
He is both the weakest (not physically) assassin and the most relatable.
Fun historical fact about bushido code, it was inspired by European concept of chivalry. But due to orientalism, it’s became so mystified and treated as this exotic and unique idea from Japan when in fact it’s a result of westernization of Japan during the Meiji era. lol
Also, I'm pretty sure that the quote from the Bushido in Le Samourai was made up by Melville
Bushido history is far older than that book written by Nitobe. He popularised it in the west and that's how we understand it and how japan sell it to us today.
I was honestly hoping you’d cover this one in your “Literally Me” series. Glad to see it reviewed by you lol
Fassbender is literally me. I knew it! Thanks Kino, always love a new video.
Literally me. Best of the worst, but still trapped not being "one of the few"
Never heard of massacre before this vid, but I’m definitely buying that TFW No GF blu ray, that’s sounds sick. Also great video Kino
We are all gonna make it!

Woah, one random sleepless day in summer, as a teenager.
watching some old random french movie that after i finished watching, said "ok" and continued my day, did a lot of wonders in the long run in life.
the comic was so fuckin good, surprised they made a movie though. didn't seem like a widely known series
The comic is really good. Read it before doing the video and was pretty engrossed
That pixies needle drop is still just the most perfect mix of cinema n music.
I took a shot of whiskey every time he said "the bushido".
You'd sooner lash out on the contractors for your mistake, take your anger out on a stranger, but to the higher ups you are nothing and your unemployment will only affect your family ;)

loved that WKUK sketch popping up there
“The need to feel secure is a slippery slope. Fate is a placebo. The only life path, the one behind you. If in the brief time we’re all given you can’t accept this, then maybe you’re not one of the Few. Maybe you’re just like me, one of the Many.” The Killer
I was waiting for your video. Better late than never.
When I saw it I really realised that it is another addition to Literally Me.
Theatical releases are only reserved for blockbusters it seems nowadays. You can't expect to make money with unconventional and devisive auteur films. Hence why they choose to find their niche audiences on streaming.
decided to watch it once you uploaded, great analysis
The title was literally what I've thought after watching this one
The Killer. A coming of age story with plenty of laughs and mischief for all the family. Micael Shrockenbrocker plays a washed up assassin who needs to learn the hard way, that he's not all he used to be.
Do Bruce Willis in The Last Boy Scout next
This movie would have made a better Hitman movie. Michael Fassbender would have made a great agent 47. I liked the beginning of this film but it all feels like it’s leading to something and then it just ends.
Peter Griffin is Literally Me.
Thanks for another great suggestion.
Brilliant review.
Felt the movie was more of a GTA game than a movie. Good video as always !
Nah you just roleplay as a hitman in GTA Online who acts like The Killer
How did you not compare this to Jarmush's Limits of Control?
Just watched the movie so I could watch this, hats off to my incredible character.
I think you're completely off the mark about the bear story. In the story, the bear questions whether the hunter's repeated failure is an honest mistake, or whether he subconsciously has some ulterior motive (i.e. if he actually _wants_ to get sodomized). would you rather be alone with a bear or the killer
very glad I waited till now to watch this
It was alright. I'm just glad I watched it in theaters.
I liked the movie, but i was left wishing for more. I think this would have been better if it was made into a series of episodes.
It would have been cool to see some glimpses of his successful assassinations before leading up to the paris mistake for instance.
I randomly saw that Wired used one of your questions for a Tech Support video, that was pretty cool
I haven't watched the movie yet, guess it's time to upload my new personality.
allow me to be a fan real quick. 2:19 absolutely masterful. well done
I was supposed to go to work to make money and feed my 9 kids but this video came out.
Leo looks like a fun movie tbh here ❤❤
I’ve spent about two weeks eating your video, a few minutes at a time.
He's him
Any unnamed protagonist is a literally me
I loved the movie and now that massacre video ad has cost me a fortune.
Excellent piece.
I Walk Through This World everyday and I see weakness if this movie ever comes out on DVD I'll make sure to check it out
Far from my favorite Fincher film, probably ranks #5 or #6 on my list... but it's still a Fincher film and very good. Also the killer is actually literally me
I don't think Fincher is gonna top Zodiac, Fight Club, or Se7en. Those are still my top 3, but I did really enjoy The Killer.
"the kino corner" "he is literally me" "tendies secured" I hate you
Man I love this guy so much
i believe he let claybourne live because he doesn't gain anything from killing him
simple
good, right after the first sentence, i knew there are real people like this. and they really want you to know, they are a badass.
and insecure.
what through me off at first was him saying he claims that he chooses a modern camo to blend in the 21st century but then he proceeds to drive a silver jeep in Dominica Republica
the video I was waiting for.
Hey Kino, wouldn’t you know a film Where a child Lives in the middle of nowhere, his mom abuses physically of him, his dad commits suicide, his friends are killed one by one by a gang of young evil teens in a car, a white fetus in a barn and a cop with a patch?, i know that movie does not sound like something that would be real, but it is, i have seen it, i just dont know the name.
this guy is literally me!(i dont have a stunning girlfriend)
I love that the movie poster is supposed to be a police sketch of the killer. That’s not even what he looks like. It’s what people THINK he looks like.
"Ghost Dog" is an excellent film.
i’ve never been more swayed by an ad, i wanna be rich evans so bad…
The Russian movie The Duelist from 2016 is also I think a "literally me" movie.
Forgot this movie existed
Idk why people take literally me memes this seriously. People say it to any edgy character that's cool and mysterious with good dialog. Noone actually thinks it's them.
Eventually all films will be middle-aged-man-revenge-fantasies
Le samurai sounds based. I already heard of ghost dog. I wanna check both of them out. And the Killer.
Idk how michael fassbender was able to accumulate that massive stockpile of weapons in different locations, mansion, and money for being so incompetent and sloppy the entire movie lol. Wish the movie showed him in his prime, nearly undetectable.
Is there any movie like the killer I love this movie soo much 🤩
Bro compares the movie to Hitman is just absurd. Tell me, when has 47 ever fumbled a job so hard as the Killer did?
Hello fellow literally me. Will you ever make a video about the 1985 masterpiece “Brazil” directed by Terry Gillian ?
I hate how "Epicurean" has come to mean basically the opposite of Epicurus philosophy :(
The Killer in me is the killer in you....
Just saved my 🍩 donuts from an Army of Ants. 🐜 Turned away for 2 seconds and saw an avalanche of them.
My only problem is the trailer had me expecting a different movie but overall I liked the movie
good vid i actully like this move
New personality update!
Okay but hes literally me
he wasn't brave enough to use meat is murder
i love this movie but i have a feeling godzilla minus 1 might win my ❤
This channel was made for ME
mank was great
While I was watching, I also thought it will a new one literally me, but where are the memes with Killer?
I have a request for a movie "a citizen above suspicion"
This is the first time watching one of your videos. When the video cut to your face for the ad read, I literally thought it was Justin Trudeau. The similarity is uncanny.
Rich Evans is my favorite person.
