I started my journey in PHP almost 15 years ago and though I considered learning other languages during the very flat years of PHP development, I stuck with it and I’m extremely happy to see continued improvements by the PHP-fig to the language. Definitely a huge improvement and with a lot more to come.

@@rojo8997 Freelance is not easy. You are in contact with the customers and must follow all changes (usually people used to make changes on the ride the things). But the first step to starts as freelance is make something and it has to be you mark, so on the people can see what you do, then you just offer it to others. And the easy way is get in and log in a freelance page. But do not forget to do something before.

If you want to learn web development, you should only consider these frameworks:
    Front-end:
    1. React (Language: JavaScript)
    2. Vue (Language: JavaScript)
    3. Angular (Language: TypeScript)
    Back-end:
    1. Express (Language: NodeJS / JavaScript running on the server environment)
    2. Django (Language: Python)
    3. Laravel (Langauge: PHP)
These frameworks are the best framework to use right now and the most popular amongst any other frameworks. I personally use Laravel and Vue, but I'd like to learn React and GraphQL in the future.

Very cool video! I'd add from my experience that it's easy to find junior position as markup designer and go on to php basics. In my case it took 3 month to learn simultaneously basics of html, css, js and php. And I had some salary as well during this "fun" period. After you learnt and tried basics you can tell what is yours. Some guys adore front parts and never go deeper. It's up to you then.
And if you dig deeper into backend parts - there is no frontend at all. Your programming is not much different from any other language, I tried python and some cpp and it cost nothing to use them in ocasional cases.
Good luck and good choices to ya all )

PHP is not only about CMS software. Yahoo, Slack, Wikipedia, Facebook are PHP projects. Basic web based E-commerce is also dominated by PHP. And frameworks like Laravel ensure (how you mentioned that) that intermediate developers can cover a wide-range of web-applications. Newer developments like PHP-Swoole bring PHP on par with Node. And, most important: Once you mastered PHP learning C/C++ is very easy (compare the code similarity). With the tandem of PHP and C/C++ you can cover everything, even to extend PHP.

I think that php is a language to learn after you learn html, css, javascript, and react...For those starting out
in web development and are looking for their first job learn html, css, js, and react. After you get your first job
then start learning php. Since php is such a large portion of the web, there will eventually be a need for seasoned php developers.
In the next few years there will be an influx of jr developers from college, from re-entering the workforce, ext. They are going to start scooping up the beginner jobs making it very competitive...if you know php and get really skilled at it, you can separate yourself from other jrs.
Honestly learn html, css, js, react, vue, node, php, mysql, mongodb to cover your bases...it seems daunting but after you learn a framework
and understand the concepts, the others will be easy. Give yourself a few years and you will get better.

Like getting to learn html, css, js, react etc. As you mentioned then getting to know about yii2, laravel you won't much get your hands dirty on those (html, css, js) when using packages as they provide more widget with they designed predefined. By wasting more time to get well known about html, css , js in depth learn with the packages so that learning span will not be so long.

I’m a 5 year php developer and I make around the same as my friends who work with newer stacks.
Now I have friends who have less then two years of experience, and make far less then I do even as (insert Vue/Angular/React here) devs. Experience goes a long way when negotiating salaries/side projects.
That doesn’t mean I don’t stay relevant, I work with react on my free time.
So I at least can diversify my knowledge base.

I have to pause the video in the mid just to write this comment.
First of all, stop comparing PHP to Angular and React they are the frontend frameworks, PHP can be used to serve API to Angular and React as well.
Secondly PHP VS Node.js has totally different execution model, PHP is a scripting language where node.js works on a non-blocking IO model.
believe me, no game developer will prefer its server engine to be built on PHP.
JS is universal, its popular because of some reason. it can be used almost anywhere ( from the clients to the servers, desktop applications #ThanksToElectron, mobile applications #ionic #ReactNative and Embedded System as well)

  • @thisbridgehascables

If you’re getting into web design/development PHP is a must. From Wordpress to Magento - PHP is the main backend language with some additional dependency injection patterns. One of my favorite PHP frameworks is Phalcon PHP. MVC Frameworks are extremely handy dealing with databases and building web apps.
To be honest in many ways you don’t need NodeJs , Angular, Vue.. etc. Basically in many ways they are a partial layer replacement for some of the data styling or manipulation of PHP.
So.. when creating projects take some time to determine how many layers of functionality and cross communication are you going to have between the frontend and backend before just piling on layers and layers of more unnecessary languages.
