Hi, my name is Derek Krahn and I'm the Operations Director for the Center for Animal Research and Education (CARE), a non-profit big cat sanctuary in Texas. That's where I got the idea for the name, 'BigCatDerek'. As you can probably already tell, I'm not that creative.
I've been working with big cats for over ten years, and I consider these big fuzzy beasts to be my dear friends. Most of my content is lighthearted, unscripted, and minimally edited dialogue in the CARE compound, meaning I like to walk around and talk to myself while I film my big cat friends.
I guess I do vlogs, but I'm not very 'vloggy', if that makes any sense. That's not to say that I have anything against more 'vlogier' vloggers or that my style of un-vloggy vlogging is superior to more 'vloggy' vlogging. I'm just trying to say that my inherent sense of vloginess is what it is.

So many chuffs! But I still miss Cassie's squeaks and Zolano's moos.
It’s really hard not to hear Cassie’s squeaks in particular. Other tigers have kept Yanno’s moo spirit alive but Cassie was one of a kind. 😢
We do need a lot more squeaks. Ruby, please give us some squeaks soon…or at least show us some of the chattiest house cats around the premises.

Lovely as usual, I wonder what Derek thinks of those other people who have big cats that cuddle them I guess if you own one or 2 from birth its possible but there are still teeth and claws, seeing that woman feed a white Tiger with meat chunks by hand makes me think that's a ticking bomb. or the Russians with a Puma in their house or black Jaguar in their house with a Doberman dog? I see these big kitties and want a hug but I know it would be my first and last one. I remember the comment on "Who knocked over the fridge?" when owning a baby Tiger lol.
You mean the family of Messi and Gerda…and of Luna. Luna, by the way, is a black leopard, not a jaguar.
Derek, do you happen to buy that special everything spray the Lion Whisperer uses?
