I started painting a year ago when I started lyme treatment and couldn't write code anymore. I have learned a lot from you in three video's. Keep them coming.
i wish the rest of youtube was like this. You obviously dont need to hear from Another person you´ve got talent but i just need to say it ( or write) this, this piece is fantastic...just stunning. watching someone paint is like getting your eyesight back :) at first you cant tell...but slowly it all wraps up to something that is a true piece of art...or atleast it is to me.
This is the MOST useful tutorial on watercolor I've found! Thank you for doing such a thorough and detailed job of explaining your technique as well as why you are doing what you're doing. All the best!
Thank you--it's just that 90 minutes of me painting a nose would put everybody to sleep! In future videos I'll slow down and show beginners what I do at a less crazy pace. I've recently relaunched this channel, and I wanted to put out some splashier, more search engine-friendly videos out there to get a bigger audience on board.
I began painting this way in college, and I spent most of my 20s teaching and exploring abstract expressionism with watercolors. About 12 years ago I got back into realism. I feel like I continue to improve with it, but once I began pursuing it full-time in 2010, things really kicked into high gear. :)
fantastic series. ive been painting watercolor and gouache for 20 years, and ive already used some of your videos for some problem solving. thanks so much! subscribed!!---chris
If you do an image search on it, you'll see what I'm talking about. It's similar to a cerulean I have, and I'm not sure why I called it cadet, but there it is. Good question!
I watched U2 in stockholm earlier this week, awsome consert!!! Also I love your chanel, and I always go here for insperation. Your videos have really taught me alot of useful stuff!
Fantastique! sublime, excellent, très beau travail. Je ne savais pas qu'on pouvait faire de si jolis portraits avec l'aquarelle? merci pour cette vidéo :)
Thank you for the sweet comment, Marina! Keep trying--it's a medium that can take years/decades to master, and I feel like I'm still learning new things. :)
I was throwing out guesses before you even started painting haha! At first due to what appeared to be more pursed lips, knowing that if we would know him be the end that close up he must have a very animated face. So I was thinking Tom Hanks. Even after the stubble comment and the freckles it still made some sense to me. But Bono is RAAAAAD. So is Tom hanks but good choice!! What a fantastic ambassador he is for this world
I know--you're so right about the Springsteen similarity! The way he's holding his jaw makes it look like he has Bruce's underbite. I was wondering if anyone would notice!
Through the evolution of this painting I was trying to guess who it was... at the very beginning I thought it was Jack Nicholson, then at the stubble I thought it was Hugh Jackman, then at the very beginning of the glasses shape, I thought it was Robert Downey Jr., then finally when more details came in on the glasses I was sure it was Bono haha. Anyway, fantastic artwork. You are super talented and this is a great tutorial for beginning artists like me!
you know someone is really good at it when make it seems so easy when it's not, at all. So impressed with your skills video after video, since i've tryed watercolours now and then and results were really miserables i know how dificult it is. lol

Do you often make pauses while drawing ? For example, to let the watercolor dry ? If yes, how many time do you wait ? Sorry for my English, and thanks you very much if you answer !
This video was Fantastic, I also really liked the way you painted the glasses. Could I say though that the subtitles really got in the way a lot of the time so I missed some. You have inspired me to start painting in watercolours so far if only bought the paint!
When I first saw the thumbnail of the nose and the lips I was sure it was Bruce Springsteen :) but when you said he wears taupe sunglasses I had no doubt that it was Bono. I love your work and the muscles painting is my favorite :)
When you started painting the glasses, I asked hubby if he knew who it was. He said, "Captain America?"...he did redeem himself without any clues after a fit of laughter from me, but still! And he calls himself a U2 fan ;)
Cool painting.. I am pretty naive ... didn't know this person. (( I stay in a bubble I guess )) But I love your work. I am learning so much. I want to learn to do portraits in watecolor. I want to do them for families that have lost their loved ones
Thank you..This was really helpful. Where can I get the best and reasonable supplies. I recently moved to the most south, Ontario and haven't found a place. Maybe online?
How does your surface stay wet for so long? Does higher quality paper stay wet for longer than something like Canson xl watercolor paper or is the humidity the primary factor in the surface staying wet? When I try a wet on wet wash, my paper dries before I'm halfway through the page and that's if I hurry!
+encouraginghope just make sure to use something that marks the paper just slightly, a very dry pencil like H2 (that's what we call it in France, not sure if it's the same everywhere) and to use it very lightly (;

thanks Kelly, its nice watching you work, however, it is too fast and i am not sure if i could follow the movement of your brush. but i will try,
Looks great! Thank you!!! What do you use to sketch in his features? A graphite pencil or watercolor pencil or a pen?
+encouraginghope just make sure to use something that marks the paper just slightly, a very dry pencil like H2 (that's what we call it in France, not sure if it's the same everywhere) and to use it very lightly (;
