the supercar accolade is about the layout/build quality, track prowess, and what the car is capable of performance wise. the price has nothing to do with it, they just tend to be expensive, thats it.

Does it have the performance of a supercar? Yes.
Can it outperform supercars? Yes.
Does it look exotic enough to be a supercar? Yes.
Does it cost as much as a supercar? No.
It's a supercar.
It will sadly never be classified a supercar. There are plenty of monster HP cars from the US, but they lack overall quality, workmanship, attention to detail, etc.
I love my C7 GS convertible for what it is, not what it isn't. Stop with the supercar comparisons and listen to Corvette owners before making changes. Then you might
get closer to the supercar status.

Other than the engine characteristics being of similar nature to that of the 458, the Z06 isn't really comparable in any other regard.
Its more like a 458 on steroids but the sentiment is real.

“shooting Napalm out the back” is my new favourite description of burble tunes. I was stuck behind a GTI in the Sepulveda tunnel at LAX one day, and that’s exactly how it sounded. shart mixed with napalm.
the tsfi engines just naturally do that. My audi doesn't have a tune, just a custom exhaust and it burbles a lot.
That flateplane sound is something else. I enjoy a V8 rumble just as much as the next guy, but that flat plane whine is something else and really pushes its way into ferrari territory. Ferrari may no care, but they will notice this car. I am very happy GM did the C8; while it doesn't appeal to me, i respect that it is an engineering masterpiece and is an amazing machine for what it is, especially in the Z06 guise.

Many of us lucky ones got our z06's at MSRP because we were smart enough to give that small deposit to one of the big well known corvette dealers back in 2019-2020. Those who waited for the debut in late 2021 and decided they wanted one can't get one at MSRP becuase it was too late to get on the wait list. Or if they did, won't see their car until 2025 or later. I got mine 2 months ago at around 120k. So yes it's a stripper model but i won't be tracking the car. It's literally my weekend toy. The car is an absolute animal and all these videos, showing the in car acceleration doesn't do it justice.
The car is MUCH MUCH louder in person. Sometimes when i'm hanging onto the revs at 5500-6500 it's so loud i almost feel like i have to shift because i'm at the end of the rev range but i glance at the tach and i still have 2000rpm's to go. It's insane this car. Bravo to GM for creating a supercar.

Great video! One correction: there is NO artificial engine noise electronically pumped into this car. They did add custom baffles on the rear exhaust trumpets which reflect the *actual* engine noise via exhaust back to the cockpit, but that’s it.
The C8 Corvette Z06 is definitively a supercar to me. There is absolutely no question about it.
It has everything a supercar should have and is everything a supercar should be. Price tag doesn't matter. What differentiates a sports car from a supercar is its status, its performance, and the engine itself. With regards to status, need I say anything? It's a Corvette, the staple American performance car. Performance? No problem. It has already proven to be a beast on the track, and it accelerates like a stabbed rat. That engine? In a world where engines like that simply no longer exist, and in a world where (at least over here in Britain) ICE's are about to die altogether, the LT6 is an absolute godsend. The Corvette is not a "fake wannabe supercar" anymore. It has become a proper supercar, a pretty amazing one at that.

Its the performance (in the time period a car was produced) that makes a supercar to me, price is pretty irrelevant. The C8, and definitely the Z06, is a supercar.

As a corvette guy, I've loved them all my life. I got a C7 Z06 and was considering adding a C8 to my collection, but I couldn't get past the looks. Bought a 911 Turbo instead.

my good friend's dad recently got a z06 and I ran into him at the grocery store, he started that thing up and man it is truly an insane sounding car in person
A funny difference ive noticed between the car and bike world is with cars we go crazy over flat plane cranks and a lot of people tend to associate it with Ferrari supercars cos theyre most commonly found in their engines.
Then meanwhile you have bikes where everyone loses it for Yamaha and their Crossplane crank engines that sound like mini American V8s
Cross plane engines just sound better. I think the reason Chevy bothered with the flat plane was to get the higher redline and hp/liter that you don't get with naturally aspirated cross plane engines. The base C8 is still a pushrod engine like the Corvettes before it and it's probably in there for many reasons lol
Love the R1 cross plane engine. Sounds like a lumpy v8 that revs into the 5 digits

Well, anything high revving sounds absolutely amazing. Be it a crossplane V8 revving to 9,000 RPM, a Flatplane V8 revving to 9k, a triple revving to 12,000 RPM or a Crossplane Inline 4 revving to 11k RPM. All of em sound glorious as long as they rev higher.
I've never wanted an American car more in my life
Didn't like the C8 at first, fell in love with it about a year ago, now it's definitely a dream car of mine, whether it be the Z06 or a Stingray. The rear looks fine, the front of this car is just a stunner, but the interior is what made me truly fall in love with it. I love the shapes inside, love the dashboard, love the center console, love the focus towards the driver and yet it feels like it is a nice place to be for a passenger too. I truly hope when I'm done with uni I can land a job that will allow me to get one (best if it's Z06 ofc) imported to Europe in ~5 years from now - there are a lot of cars that I would love to experience, that I would love to own, but this opens up the list in supercar category because of the price tag. It is a bargain for what you get imo, even with the import costs to EU.
I love the fact that it was a longer video, certailny wouldn't mind it being even longer than that, it was a pleasure to watch you explore some twisty backroads in the middle of the day in a chill manner in a freakin Z06.

Used 2023 Z06s are now selling for between $119K-$129K for the 1LZ with less than 4K miles (cargurus). Anyone paying markup for one of these things needs their head examined.
i haven' been in one personal but the POV of the interior is amazing. gives me more of a cockpit/personal feel because how close all the controls are. Almost identical to the 93-96 supra.

The car is totally awesome, the problem is the dealer mark-ups. The dealers are disrespecting the customers. I found a truly honest dealer Leach Wilson in Shelbyville IL. that is selling the Corvettes at MSRP. Yes that includes the Z06. I've been dealing with Aaron and he has been awesome, but so has everyone else at the dealership. I can't wait to take delivery, all I can say is thank you to these awesome guys.
Just gotta wait and shop around... Such a shame it needs to be that way... Dealers are such a corrupt and archaic way of selling cars and clearly still around because the US government only works at the behest of corporations and capital owners...

Yea I recently got my C8 serviced. Full oil change with filter, transmission fluid change with filter was $400. You can’t get the wiper fluid refilled on a McLaren for $400.

The fake noise is supposed to cancel out some of the harsh frequencies the engine makes, so the sound is more smooth sounding. They did the same thing with the exhaust tuning

Having ridden as a passenger in one of these I can tell you this car is up there with the exotics. Take away the badge and is comparable to a lamborghini or mclaren, entry level that is.

The price, the quality of the materials, the little things like the way that frunk opened all say this is not a supercar. If those things were taken to the next level then yes it would be one. However it is a sportscar and there is nothing wrong with that.

Here in Australia, people are selling C8s (non Z06) Stingrays for the same price of a low mile/km McLaren 570S. It's ridiculous.
It really needs AWD for that amount of horsepower. My car has 660 WHP, but is AWD and weighs more than the ZO6. Contrary to what one may think, Chevy isn't selling ZO6s to NASCAR drivers.
So get an E Ray then they are all wheel drive.

I think it’s more of a demand problem the car is very popular and desired so your going to have these kind of backlog problems. As far a the excessive premiums I agree with you. They should go away once the hype is over in a few years. Till then my C8 HTC Z51 will do.
It means prices are too low for the supply, in economic terms. If GM said the MSRP was $40,000, do you think they would or should transact for $40,000 considering GM can't make 10M of them per year?

I drove a C8 Z06 in Portland Oregon it was a beautiful dark metallic red and I have to say it is the most fun car I have ever driven. I daily a F82 M4 and drive exotic cars frequently yet the Z06 just screams and looks absolutely stunning! Way better than all the previous corvettes by far in my opinion.
