As a die hard Skyrim fan, Dragons Dogma scratched the itch I needed for fantasy and simple combat. Although it is a smaller game with about a quarter of the outfit and weapon options, the story was unique, combat was simple, and creatures were exciting. Only difference being it’s not in first person perspective, which was a bit annoying but easily looked over. I would absolutely recommend this game for someone yearning for a unique experience that gives the same familiar feeling that Skyrim does. The only other game that scratched that itch for me was Horizon zero dawn. Huge world, side quests, a huge catalogue of new beasts. Simple combat. I tried Monster Hunter: Iceborne, and was turned off by complicated upgrading, complicated combat, and annoying online play prompts. I’m someone who likes open world single player, where I can just take my time and not worry about IRL people. If you’re looking for big worlds and similar simple combat, dragons dogma and horizon zero dawn did it for me.
A personal recommendation would be Enderal, it's a full free game built in the Skyrim engine and boy it is amazing what a group of passionate developers can create. Anyone looking for a Skyrim fix should try it!
@@stosh64 Make sure you get the standalone Steam version, there's one for base Skyrim and one for Special Edition, it's much more advanced than the one available on nexus and comes with a lot of quality of life mods already integrated.

I might have missed it--but you should have probably mentioned Morrowind and Oblivion--both of which are getting total conversion mods into the Skyrim engine in the coming years (the projects are well on their way to being finished). In a similar vein, Enderal is a total conversion mod for Skyrim that has an official Steam page--it is a full AA(A) experience built in the Skyrim engine (and using or modifying many of its systems). This is a great list of games & recommend them all as their own entity. However, having been on the Skyrim-alike hunt before- I discovered the best thing to do is to just start a new save in Skyrim.. Not what most people wanna hear, but it's too unique to match imo lol. But hey, all the power to people playing new stuff & trying to scratch that itch.

@SirDude632 Unique? Dude, it's literally Elder Scolls V, meaning that it is a fifth part of the franchise. It has better graphics than Morrowind or Oblivion, but that is kinda it about it's "uniqueness" :}

On the other hand as a 'life simulator' it really brings the area SE of Prague to life, which is what Warhorse were aiming for. It's one of the games I show people who think it's all space invaders and they are never less than astounded by the architecture.
Might and Magic 2 was a revelation when I played it in the early 90s. Wandering into the desert, finding interesting places, people, and loot, only to be ambushed by 200 virtually indestructible enemies was amazing.
Dark souls is M&M 1 & 2 for pussies. Insanely difficult games. In fact, all the mainline M&M games are brick hard. Real trial and error grinds. Wizardry also.
First time seeing your channel and I really look forward to seeing more. The games on the list that I've already played like Kingdom Come and Greedfall I ate up with a spoon. Dragon's dogma was the most unique Rpg I have ever played, so different from anything else, no one since has even had the balls to do something similar
Dragon's dogma world vibe atmosphere combat and style was something I can never forget it was such a great journey to explore that world, and exploration was really it's core, you never know what awaited in in the next turn or cavern but that game really kept the player on his/her toes, such a gem really hope they make a second one

Bought Gedonia based on one of your previous videos--have nearly 24 hours into it already--have really only experienced one build and a fraction of the game content. It is a very impressive experience considering it has been developed by one person. It is getting its official release out of Early Access soon too--definitely pick it up if you're a fan of open world games--as it has a large diverse world to explore, although the story and writing are not going to win any awards. Got it for a couple of bucks on sale.
Absolutely second this! Bought it because it was dead cheap and basically expected nothing but damn is it a great game! It's systems may be fairly basic but put together exceptionally well and you can tell that it's made by someone who really likes and understands this genre. Story is great too. Absolute gem.
I purchased it on november 2021 and to be honest, it's a terrible game. To a point where I can't imagine it getting better. Okay it's made by one person and it's cheap (two reasons why I didn't ask for a refund) but at the end of the day, if the game is clumsy like Gedonia is, it's just a terrible game.
immortals fenyx rising caught me by surprise, i wasn't expecting to like that game as much as i did. greedfall and elex are nice hidden gems too. great list of games.
I need to play Re-reckogning and the DLC. I loved the original one. I have Witcher 3, but have never played it. BotW is one of the games i still need to buy for the Switch
You miss 2 of the best. 1) Xenoblade Chronicles (Nintendo Wii), and the best of all: Elder scrolls 3: Morrowind, the most open world, free game ever made, where every item was targetable. You could kill everyone (friendly or non friendly), steal any item, etc. 200-300 hours to do the main and all side quests. But probably no one completed all side quests, because probably we have kiiled some of quest givers before we could pick the quest lol. It is also the reason that the modern Open World games are like they are. Most was inspired in Morrowind (oblivion, and Skyrim included).
@@ColdBeer the Sense of freedom in Skyrim is not the same as Morrowind. Skyrim is a very good game. Morrowind was a masterpiece. And what about Xenoblade Chronicles. The Impossible game for the old Wii with a huge Open world and hundreds of side quests.
I totaly agree with you for DA Inquisition i feel the same way. It may be not the best of the DA series for most fans but to me i felt more connected to this one
I hated Inquisition. It was way too obvious that the game was designed to be an MMO with all the micro transaction trappings, only to get converted to a single player game late in the development timeline. The large world felt largely empty outside of the actual cities/towns, as if there was little point in even exploring.
I would love to see a Might and Magic open world game similar to Farcry. It's my secret gamer dream and I think it could be a real success. On another note, Immortals Fenix Rising is indeed one of the best games in this list and the puzzles included in it are really easy to solve (nothing like Supraland for instance). So even if some don't like puzzles but love exploration and open worlds, they should really try it.
Check out 'Dark Messiah - Might & Magic' It's pretty much the precursor to the dishonored games set in that universe. But unless Ubisoft gives Arkane Studios rights to it, it's unlikely we'll see anything like it ever again.
If you like first person pixel art M&M 3 + world of Xeen are AWESOME an entire world with BIOMES in the 90's plus they are not wizardry/souls hard Oh and the enemies don't scale -- you kill a high level monster at level 4 you get all the experience and a REAL weapon
My only issue with Outward is that it feels a bit empty. The cities are big and impressive but everyone is just standing around. Compare to games like skyrim where everyone has their own schedules and are walking around doing all kinds of things. Then in the open world you mostly just see enemies. There aren't really many random events. But I love the combat, survival aspects, and magic system.
Outward was developed by an independent studio so they only had a fraction of the budget Bethesda had - hence all the sacrifices they had to make like the empty cities.
Oh god... I came here to see what other games I could play that i haven't yet, but I might just end up playing Witcher 3 again for the 4th time now but in 1st person...
I definitely want to check out Kingdoms of Amular and Kingdom Come, maybe Greedfall. I'm so glad Immortals Fenyx Rising was on this list, it's just so fun, the puzzles that are both satisfying to find and solve, the characters, the storyline, the colourful and magical vast open world, and all the fun combat powers & collectible armor and weapon sets. The silly humor is charming and it doesn't even matter that some of the Greek Gods sound eastern European because it's just fun and stacked with content.
Greedfall is horrible. Don't bother. Kingdom come is one of the best games I've ever played. You'll love it but be patient. The people who don't like it didn't play long enough. You start off not being able to do anything, including fighting. Once you advance the story a little it gets amazing. First 6 or 7 hours is tough. It makes sense because your character is just a blacksmiths apprentice who spends his time I taverns and bath houses and has no ides how to fight.
@@tugboat6940 hahaha damn! That is something, nice to hear I dodged a bullet on that. You'll be happy to know I went with Kings of Amular basically a few mins after my original comment.
@@PaddyLaPoint man I've never played that but I've thought about it. I was turned off because Kurt schilling was one of the main producers lol. Let me know if it's any good. And seriously play kingdom come you will thank me
I really had alot of fun with Two worlds back in the day. It's clear the game is designed in a kinda Janky way and the voice acting is bad. But it's a very fun and immersive world to be in, you have a lot of freedom about where you can go, who you can fight and kill and feels like a traditional old school medieval game.
I would love the Witcher more if you could create your own Witcher. I know they have "some customizations" but to make your own personal character would give it more playtime for me and it wouldnt ruin the game
That's like wanting Donald Duck to look more like a mouse and not like some stupid bird. Or a an Alien Xenomorph to look different, more like a green man with big eyes. Just no. Geralt is known from 1986 and wanting it to be different sounds super weird.
@@ColdBeer not even close to what I said, the only thing weird in your comment. More customization to his appearance is not a bad thing, I mean add braids, shaved head or something. I mean they do have some, which means they also think like me, just wished they had more is all.
Divinity 2: Developer's Cut is my favorite game ever. I'm still playing.. I think this game is underrated and forgotten game but you added to list. Thanks. I wish one day Larian Studios will release Divinity 2:Ego Draconis Remake. This would be great. As far as I can see Larian Studios focused on isometric games after success of D:OS2 but still I hope. What can I say. I'd love to see mods for this game at least.
Skyrim, gta5, & red dead in my opinion aren't the best games, but are definitely the most immersive games. They suck you out of real life and make VR feel so real and personal. If you combine skyrims immersive world & overhaul of mage spells with ghost of tsushima's combat & graphics plus a really good story and an optional online game mode...you'll have the perfect game. Witcher 3 is closest thing to that. Middle earth has bad ass combat too right after ghost of tsushima
“You need boobs and booze, not some save file fixing cheese” 😂😂 first time on the channel and within the first couple of minutes I’m already a fan lmao
@@ColdBeer I guess I was looking for something medieval, like Elder Scrolls, you know with swords and dungeons and armor and stuff! But, yeah, Fallout 4, Mass Effect - and soon Starfield! Those are the kind of RPG/Open world games I love and wish there were more of! Good video thanks.
Play dragons dogma on pc with an Inifinite out of combat sprinting mod. It truly makes the game so much more enjoyable as the game is not quite finished and it shows in the occasional large area where you’re just WALKING down a path for minutes on end.
Am greatful that every video been made about this are by personal opinions and reviews....every person i personally know is lifting witcher much higher then skyrim. But thanks for your work on this and showing some other nische games... Merry Christmas
I dont think dragon age inquisition gets enough love i never got to finish it and i wanna go back through it and the witcher 3 for a second time. I just love RPG’s and JRPG’s more than any other genre of games you gets your money’s worth out of them. But I do have a problem of getting side tracked in big games like inquisition, witcher, skyrim and so on. I fill like I have to do everything and it makes it hard for me to finish stuff before moving on to the next big game. Also never finished persona 4 golden on the vita i have been going through it on the steam deck.
Plus, for me, they are games that if I put down for more than a week, I am basically lost when I pick them back up. Elden Ring is a recent example. Played the hell out of it when it first came out for about 2 weeks. Then stopped and when I tried to pick it back up it was like trying to relearn how to talk again lol. Dragon Age (loved the original) was like that also. I have gotten probably 2 hours into it several times then got side tracked with other stuff and wouldnt play for a bit, and then have no clue wtf was going on. For me games like those, W3, etc if I dont pick them up often its hard to get back into them. Inquisition had this point where I got to about 2-3 hours in that no matter what I couldnt get past any fights. It was like I was just one or two levels lower than everything else and would just get wrecked no matter which way I went.
My love is to "Might and Magic" from 2000 year. And I've played a lot in Might and Magic VIII, IX and VII. And I try to find looks like this game in modern games. (Also I`ve played a lot in Gothic I, II and III).
Tbh of the games I played I believe that only a few get close to what skyrim did, which was the ability to roam the map with no barriers. Many games in the list (amalur, two worlds, middle earth, assassin creed, dragon age ...) have a level gating, so the map is not fully open for you and you have to follow a pre-decided path. Of the games I played on that list, only The witcher and Fenyx rising have some reasonable ability to roam the map in the order you want.
Divinity 2 is not open world and nothing like skyrim, but I'm happy to see it in any "best XXX" list - it's very underrated and it will never get recognition or a sequel since Original sin 2 is the most popular Larian title and rebooted their universe.
Plenty of games are "open world, like Skyrim", but none of them are simulated worlds, anywhere near to the degree that Elder Scrolls games are. You can pick up a freaking knife on the table, and most objects have physics applied to them. The others just aren't the same.
When Assassin's Creed Valhalla Came out, It was Holy Week here. AND here I was in the game Pillaging and Raping Churches :D, I felt so proud of my Viking Ancestry XD.
Two Worlds and Two Worlds II we're enjoyable to me. Kingdoms of Amular bought 360 version and PS4 Rereckoning. Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen bought 360 and PS4..still playing it today and tomorrow etc... Great Game.
The highlights here are Dragons Dogma and Kingdom Come:Deliverance also if you can deal with oldies but goodies, track down an OG legend, Dark Messiah of Might and Magic. DMOMAM is where it was at, Gothic was good but Dark Messiah has a kick mechanic... 😎👍
every skyrim player must try Enderal. If you love one, you will love the other For those that dont know, Enderal is Skyrim, but different map/different creatures/abilities/etc. Its made from the same engine, but a different game If Skyrim was Fallout 3, Enderal would be Fallout New Vegas Enderal is better than Skyrim, in every way, except its world is smaller
You know I have an entire separate channel dedicated to Skyrim with 10K subs. I played the game for years and years, but... I can't play Enderal. I sunk like 2 hours in it and then had to quit. It's just not interesting for me. I know that a lot of people love it, but I also know a lot who don't. So "If you love one, you will love the other" is not entirely true :)
@@ColdBeer to me both seem interchangeable. I sunk like 200 hours into Enderal, but now going back to skyrim. Eventually will probably go back to enderal once again I dont know why or how Enderal would not be interesting. Its so similar to Skyrim... Obviously, both games need mods to be enjoyable. Specifically difficulty mods. With Skyrim, for example, I use Serenity 2. With Enderal i used Special Edition (but I think there may be something better)
Oh, the reason is simple: I want more Skyrim, not "a bit different Skyrim". Enderal had a bit different mechanics (I really can't remember what exactly) and that just wasn't for me. You know, when you like something so much, and someone is like "hey, this is even better", so you try it and... it's not THE SAME. I want the same, because that is what I like. Well, sounds very boring, but it is what it is :}
I got KCD when it released and gave up at the main battle because the combat and bug was infuriating. Just finished my 8th playthrough of Witcher 3 and went straight onto it and absolutely loving it this time
greedfall was so fun, but it got played out with the fetch quests and i also really HATE the invisible walls and limited environments, but especially the bottlenecks , also guns are broken
17:25 Leaving out no.9 is just hurtful man. Why? Because it's different from the previous games? That's one of the many things I liked about 9. And you do include 10 which was definitely very different from 6-9 because of its tile-based movement.
You know, I finished 100% only 8th and 9th. And despite I finished 9th, because I was such a huge fan of franchise, I can't recommend it. It is somehow (because of that early 3D setting, narrow world and small item icons) morally way more worn out than other, even older parts. Although to this day I remember when I solved that superhard puzzle in 9th with levels (stairs?).
Thank you, thank you, thank you for letting me know about Skyrim-Greatness games! I am addicted to single player, nuclear apocalypse and magical phantasy games, so your list is totally up my preferences and really a showcase of things I will be investing on in the next days. Truly interesting, as a long tome Stram Client, I will be trying one or two very soon. If you want, about 2 months from now, I might give you some early opinions (or I'll just keep shut up) 😊

It is also the reason that the modern Open World games are like they are. Most was inspired in Morrowind (oblivion, and Skyrim included).
Dude... adding Morrowind to a list of "games like Skyrim" is like adding Diablo 2 and Diablo 3 to a list of "games like Diablo" :)
Wow, nice video thanks for diving right into it instead of making us go through a 5 minute intro.
I agree full heartedly. I was a huge fan of the might and magic series.
A might and magic open world game would be soo great! I'm a huge fan of the series and its lore!
Would be great
Check out 'Dark Messiah - Might & Magic' It's pretty much the precursor to the dishonored games set in that universe. But unless Ubisoft gives Arkane Studios rights to it, it's unlikely we'll see anything like it ever again.
Hilarious as always...the sister comment and soo many more are brilliant...LOL! 😭🤣😁😂😅
This kind of enthusiastic voices always make me wanna re-walkthrough these games couple of times)
Great overview, bro! Gonna try some of these!
Playing 20 of these to completion will take more than 20 years.
If you like first person pixel art M&M 3 + world of Xeen are AWESOME
an entire world with BIOMES in the 90's plus they are not wizardry/souls hard
Oh and the enemies don't scale -- you kill a high level monster at level 4 you get all the experience and a REAL weapon
I can't get enough of KC:D Such an underrated game, cheap also!
Jesus Christ be praised!
Hail Satan!
@@ColdBeer Really?..
Fantastic game well worth playing, combat is hard to master at first but excellent when you get it
@@also6741 Why he wouldnt? Both are just man made soo.. Neither of them exists
I agree it is lacking, but man that game is still so fun. The magic system is incredible
Comparing outward to Skyrim is so stupid lol
Oh god... I came here to see what other games I could play that i haven't yet, but I might just end up playing Witcher 3 again for the 4th time now but in 1st person...
Greedfall is actually very good
Playing a bit loose with the "like Skyrim" qualifier there --- still some quality titles on the list regardless.
Nice List, well put together. Thanks x
@@tugboat6940 thanks for the feedback :) shall avoid Greedfall!
@@PaddyLaPoint it's the most shallow RPG I've ever played
Awesome video, great list and some truely good games in there.
I like how you write "Windows" instead of just PC, which would mean it would also be available for Apple PC :)
“You need boobs and booze, not some save file fixing cheese” 😂😂 first time on the channel and within the first couple of minutes I’m already a fan lmao
Nice video, great explanations. Btw love your enthusiasm.
Ay I was just watching your old videos last night, wondering when this was gonna get updated heh
Greedfall is so underrated!
Not gonna lie I loved two worlds lol.
I don't know why, but similarly to how I live Piranha Bites games, it had a lot of charm and love put into it.
Two Worlds was the only game EVER to satisfy my craving for an Elder Scrolls like game.
What about Fallout 4?
@@ColdBeer I guess I was looking for something medieval, like Elder Scrolls, you know with swords and dungeons and armor and stuff! But, yeah, Fallout 4, Mass Effect - and soon Starfield! Those are the kind of RPG/Open world games I love and wish there were more of! Good video thanks.
Love your stuff, Cold Beer! I played Skyrim for the first time after finishing Breath of the Wild. Two of my favourite games.
Very underrated channel
Play dragons dogma on pc with an Inifinite out of combat sprinting mod. It truly makes the game so much more enjoyable as the game is not quite finished and it shows in the occasional large area where you’re just WALKING down a path for minutes on end.
Nice to see Elex here. I love the Piranha Bites games
IDk why, but For me, fantasy life on 3ds give me skyrim feeling in a colorfull way
great list, thanks
Thank you. Great vid.
Awesome commentary. I was more entertained by you than a lot of the games reviewed
The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt
Divinity 2 is not open world and nothing like skyrim, but I'm happy to see it in any "best XXX" list - it's very underrated and it will never get recognition or a sequel since Original sin 2 is the most popular Larian title and rebooted their universe.
20? Ok, let’s see how many of these I own already?
Edit: And the answer is 15! 😂 Guess I’ll check out the other 5.
I applaud your review. I feel like youre someone that knows what they are talkng about because you are the gamer that others say they are.
I came here to crucify the heretic. Imagine saying Inquisition is good at all let alone better than Origins.
Just starts the video, eleborates, giga chad youtuber
1:15 is the most blatant Supreme Chancellor / Emperor Palpatine I have ever seen!
"i wanna play as a beardy, fat, 60 year old viking" :D
4:27 that sounded very polish :D. I use that a lot already since I live in a neighbouring country.
Let me guess... Lithuania?
@@ColdBeer yes
So, the same where I live. Actually even your nickname contains my real name in it lol
Plenty of games are "open world, like Skyrim", but none of them are simulated worlds, anywhere near to the degree that Elder Scrolls games are. You can pick up a freaking knife on the table, and most objects have physics applied to them. The others just aren't the same.
Actually there is, at least one. Check out Isles of Adalar. Although its not a very good game, so It's not on the list.
I think kenshi could be a good addition to this list
Great game, but a different type of game altogether, I think.
Then again he included Might and Magic, so... if those are like Skyrim, I guess Kenshi could be too. Pretty loose definition.
When Assassin's Creed Valhalla Came out, It was Holy Week here. AND here I was in the game Pillaging and Raping Churches :D, I felt so proud of my Viking Ancestry XD.
Hey thanks for getting straight to the juice man.
Two Worlds and Two Worlds II we're enjoyable to me. Kingdoms of Amular bought 360 version and PS4 Rereckoning. Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen bought 360 and PS4..still playing it today and tomorrow etc... Great Game.
What are you playing after tomorrow?
after a weak , i laughed at a video. keep it up
The highlights here are Dragons Dogma and Kingdom Come:Deliverance also if you can deal with oldies but goodies, track down an OG legend, Dark Messiah of Might and Magic. DMOMAM is where it was at, Gothic was good but Dark Messiah has a kick mechanic... 😎👍
Wow, I really played nearly all of these.
Agree! Nice review!
Hmmm interesting. Never heard of most of those. Must try some asap
hi, nice list but best of the best for me is still Enderal 😊
every skyrim player must try Enderal. If you love one, you will love the other
For those that dont know, Enderal is Skyrim, but different map/different creatures/abilities/etc. Its made from the same engine, but a different game
If Skyrim was Fallout 3, Enderal would be Fallout New Vegas
Enderal is better than Skyrim, in every way, except its world is smaller
You know I have an entire separate channel dedicated to Skyrim with 10K subs. I played the game for years and years, but... I can't play Enderal. I sunk like 2 hours in it and then had to quit. It's just not interesting for me. I know that a lot of people love it, but I also know a lot who don't. So "If you love one, you will love the other" is not entirely true :)
@@ColdBeer to me both seem interchangeable. I sunk like 200 hours into Enderal, but now going back to skyrim. Eventually will probably go back to enderal once again
I dont know why or how Enderal would not be interesting. Its so similar to Skyrim...
Obviously, both games need mods to be enjoyable. Specifically difficulty mods. With Skyrim, for example, I use Serenity 2. With Enderal i used Special Edition (but I think there may be something better)
Oh, the reason is simple: I want more Skyrim, not "a bit different Skyrim". Enderal had a bit different mechanics (I really can't remember what exactly) and that just wasn't for me. You know, when you like something so much, and someone is like "hey, this is even better", so you try it and... it's not THE SAME. I want the same, because that is what I like. Well, sounds very boring, but it is what it is :}
I got KCD when it released and gave up at the main battle because the combat and bug was infuriating. Just finished my 8th playthrough of Witcher 3 and went straight onto it and absolutely loving it this time
greedfall was so fun, but it got played out with the fetch quests and i also really HATE the invisible walls and limited environments, but especially the bottlenecks , also guns are broken
Thank you for this :)
Me : still roaming in skyrim endlessly
Thank you, thank you, thank you for letting me know about Skyrim-Greatness games! I am addicted to single player, nuclear apocalypse and magical phantasy games, so your list is totally up my preferences and really a showcase of things I will be investing on in the next days.
Truly interesting, as a long tome Stram Client, I will be trying one or two very soon. If you want, about 2 months from now, I might give you some early opinions (or I'll just keep shut up) 😊
Elix1-2 would be amazing IF they fixed the combat
Off all of these Greedfall is the only one with a next generation update. Plus it's way more options within the story than The Witcher
There's such a huge drought on good rpg games lately you might get one or two a year if ya lucky.
You are totally right! I haven’t been playing. Video games much lately because I’m mainly a fan of open world rpg’s and I’ve played them all. They need to make some new ones.
