@@AVAPopCulture Ok. It's just that the Tri-star logo is omitted from every single video release, but since they're scanning the original camera negatives, I'm curious.
@JoeVincentPresents I love the Ref!! I think it is so damn hilarious! And dude! I loved the Karate Kid mockumentary! That is a shit ton of work in that my friend!! Love it!! Merry Christmas!!!
If the 4k Blu-ray has the Tri-Star logo included on the theatrical version, then it's definitely worth a buy. All video releases open up with no Tri-star logo.
You forgot the best part of the entire movie. For 70s and 80s kids, the toys displayed on the shelves in the store are a great nostalgic treat to see. Star Wars toys, etc.
Finally got my copy and just watched it. I also thought it was a lot of fun and thought the transfer was fantastic. I vividly remember when this got taken out of the theaters back in the 80s. Was a major controversy in rural Indiana 😂
glad you finally got it! 100% agree on the 4k restoration, it is really damn good!! so crazy how we've changed from back when a movie like that was pulled out of small towns... and now we are in this weird "feelings society" that has caused a strange duopoly where it is ok to do and show almost anything and force everyone to accept it BUT it is also offensive to have a man squeeze a woman's butt on camera or play "baby it's cold outside" smh...
I just finished watching the unrated version which I never knew existed. i also haven’t seen the theatrical version in over 30 years as well. Looking at it now, I can’t believe this movie was banned back then. Awesome review man.
All of my past copies of this film had a pretty noticeable amount of film scratches and specks (even though the transfers looked decent otherwise) but I noticed that this recent 4K transfer seems to have eliminated most, if not all, of the past scratches. In a way, I like the cleaner transfer and in a way I kind of miss it lol. Nostalgia I guess...
@@RJAZ89 I know exactly what you mean!! That's why I have a hard time getting rid of old copies of stuff when I upgrade...sometimes I want the look to take me back...
Chase, have you seen the movie Hatchet? It has Kane Hodder and Robert Englund and Tony Todd. Comedy horror in the bayou. The swamp tour guide scene is funny. Reminds me of the Animal Kingdom tour guide we had in Disney World in 2021.😅 There's nothing like a funny tour guide!
@AVAPopCulture You would LOVE it! It's right up your alley! It even has the blonde girl from Addams Family Values who played Wednesday's nemesis at camp. It's kinda like Swamp Thing meets Scooby-Doo.
I have yet to see Scream Factory do a complete 4k scan of SNDN 2. The previous blu ray release was sourced from a theatrical copy which had scenes from the 2017 blu ray of the theatrical version of SNDN inserted in instead for the flashback scenes.
Thanks again for your Westerns video. Have you ever seen Hostiles? It came out in 2017, a Western set in the 1892, has Christian Bale, Rosamund Pike and Wes Studi. I'm watching it on Tubi right now, good movie and has those panoramic views that I love.
Great review, I did not preorder this one, but it's on my list. We watched Terminator last night, you were spot on with that review. Also, I did watch the Gift last night, was an excellent movie and really nice transfer. A buddy was hanging out and logged into his Disney + and we watched Alien Romulus. It was pretty good too although I wanted the whole cast to die.😂
@stickywicked447 glad you liked the Terminator! I thought it was a damn fine 4k! I am really interested in getting The Gift, I saw it in the theater and haven't seen it since and don't recall much about it - other than Katie Holmes topless l
Eh, i can kinda understand this being the same price as Hush was, even without coming with a poster or slips. Reason being this took more time and work to do the 4k restoration, because they were starting from old garbage on film. Hush was digital when it was shot, and with recent equipment. Gotta remember they've gotta pay the people that do the restoration, and employee time and labor are way more expensive than paper posters.
Id agree except for the fact that while this is a new 4k restoration, there had been one done previously...so the major issues should have mostly been fixed and 4ks are overpriced by $7-$10 as it is...they also had to do DOUBLE the work on Hush because they did 2 completely different versions in 4k - the theatrical and the Black and white "shush" cut - that is 2 whole new restorations from scratch
I dont understand WHY scream factory couldnt release the unrated cut on 4k and just the theatrical?? so now i have to wait for an over sea's 4k release of the unrated version because i never will watch the theatrical cut so it makes ZERO sense if i have the blu ray from scream factory to upgrade to another blu ray being i wont ever watch the theatrical version on 4k.
For the theatrical release, Tri-Star originally cut out those scenes to secure a proper R rating, and lost them permanently. The VHS releases are the only source for the missing scenes, so when they put them in, they look very pixelated. If they're doing a scan of the original film elements, then there's really no point in altering them.
It's overpriced. I love the film but the blu came out at end of 2017, those who bought on release got it in hand beginning of 2018. They're reselling a very similar package, with a higher price, for the cut theatrical version in 4k, and about 3 new interviews. Most of this set is just a rerelease of the 2017 set, except many came with a Billy action figure back then. When I watch I want to see it uncut with all gore intact, not cut. The old VHS copies were cut, I dont want that. It's a slasher, it being 2 minutes of cut footage matters a lot when your talking about gore. Ideally they could've given the option on the 4k to view the 4k presentation with the lower definition inserts. They wouldn't have to upres anything, just splice in the inserts without doing anything to them, as a seamless branching option so we could get that max quality on most of the film, but not be missing any gore. That's the huge flaw with this set and why myself and many other hard-core fans really aren't excited about this release. It's like them doing Lifeforce uncut on blu ray only, and now we have Arrow doing a release where they prove you can do a 4k of the uncut Lifeforce, which is really the only version someone would want to watch.
You do have the blu ray to compare it to, the blu ray in this is the 2017 blu ray. Since this film is short I recommend owning part 2, then doing them back to back, except you can fast forward through the first 40 minutes as it's just a recao of part 1. But you get about 40 new minutes from part 2, which combined with part 1 gives you more like a 2 hour film and makes the ending of part 1 less abrupt and closes the main story loop by end of 2.
Fun 80’s Christmas horror with plenty of 80’s (.)(.) 😂 - grabbed my copy and recently watched and enjoyed. Another great review bud! Hope you and the fam had a great Thanksgiving.
