Nice review. I guess for me I really need to put this against my current 3W Ai Smoke which has been a cannon especially off the deck and just look at the numbers. If distance and dispursion are better and I’m convinced this club is in fact a “secret weapon” off the deck it will surely go in my bag. I’d like to test the other mini drivers that have or are about to launch as well but the angle PXG seems to have taken here is that yes, this club is easier to hit off the deck/fairways than other mini drivers. Nice job here.
I was thrown by the 5pm video as well. It looks an exciting club. Give it to mid handicap Dave with some tape on the top😅. With the big boys focusing on forgiveness in their drivers as opposed to just distance I wonder if the days of the mini driver are limited 🤷🏻♂️
I remember back in 2014 purchasing a Taylor Made SLDR Mini Driver. Very suitable for my home course that had 6 Par 4s of between 300 / 350metres, with most having water and / or bunkers at about 210 - 250 metres which made a #3 wood, about 210 metres, just too short and Driver, about 235 / 240 metres just too long and getting into trouble. Sold several years ago for next to nothing, but in VG condition, now most sell for around the same price as last season's full drivers. I also note that the current crop of Mini Drivers are bigger at around the 300cc mark whereas the SLDR was 260cc.
I’ve decided that I am definitely buying a mini driver this winter. So far I’ve been thinking of going with the TaylorMade but this is now a close 2nd! I’ve never had a PXG club i might have to buy this.
I know you appreciate a bargain. I'm sticking with my cut down Taylormade 320Ti driver. Same length as modern minis and in the middle size(cc) wise at $50 all in. My only wish is I had found a 10-10.5° head, but being lefty sometimes you gotta take what you can get 🤙
Are you playing Reunion again, James? If you can, you also need to try and play Streamsong. The course is out of this world and you would definitely be able to use the mini driver on it.
I am intrigued with this and will, in the near term, go to my PXG store to test it out. My thought is to replace the Driver and 3-Wood with the Secret Weapon and add another Hybrid.
We have seen this MOVIE before! You seem to come out with a new driver every week that is the best on the planet! Equipment is very over-rated mate! Remember the BIG 4....Arnie, Jack, Gary and Lee, they all had no swing coaches, no lessons, played with rubbish equipment whereby the iron heads looked like bread knives, shafts were stiffer than a Barge-Pole, rubbish golf balls that travelled 50 yds shorter, small persimmon driver heads, rubbish greens and fairways, terrible bunkers and played off disgusting lies, no launch monitors like Trackman, yet they all shot mid 60's every week! It's called "TALENT" These LEGENDS were AMAZING!
Let me know if you need a mid handicap golfer for your upcoming Florida trip! Jacksonville based Kiwi golfer! Or advice on the best place to grab a beer 🍻
While I love the adjustability, and PXG has been doing the separate quadrant weights in many heads now.. I'm growing more bearish on mini drivers generally. If you don't hit it off the deck regularly, why not properly build a true mini driver with a 460cc head with a touch more loft on a three wood shaft and inevitably have more tech and more forgiveness? Like the multiple drivers approach Mickelson did years ago, in a way. Or just build your main driver on a shorter shaft as a compromise if it proves beneficial for dispersion ir consistency. Just my opinion of course. I built my own mini with an old driver I had..and while it's fun every once in a while..no way I'm buying some expensive brand new club for just the occasional fun..and I'm not good enough to need two drivers for two carry distances.
@timdench2583 For me it's the shorter shaft. I don't know how a smaller head would ever be technically more forgiving off the tee. Could argue the smaller head makes you focus more, or is more versatile for off the deck lies I guess. But generally speaking then it wouldn't be as forgiving as something with even more loft and more tech to get it off the ground safely. No matter what one does there's an inevitable compromise..and you're back to square one unless you 1. have the disposable income to have a fun experiment or scramble club or 2. are willing to fit this to your swing in the best compromise configuration to become your only tee club. To me it keeps coming back to these being higher swing player clubs. Slower swings should do better with higher lofted and/or shorter 460 drivers and 7 woods for the same reason they always have. :)
James, I don't see anything special about it other than the four weight positions. I have a TM 300 ti that is essentially a mini driver but it is 20 years old, in great condition and I can just add lead tape to help with spin or ball flight direction. It's not the driver that I use but if I want a mini driver to play with; I have one.
I have a 13 degree Callaway Diablo Edge it was a mini driver before there were mini drivers. If it breaks and I pray it doesn't. I might be in the market
James does love a mini driver, must be the biggest salesman of these things. Modern drivers are so easy to hit, if you cant, get a lesson. Only reason i can see for bagging a mini-driver/2 wood, is can you hit it off the deck? If you are able, might be worth a space at the expense of the waste of space 60 degree wedge in most bags. James also likes a tinker, and these are a tinkerers paradise.
I have the Taylor Mini , had the Callaway , I love mini drivers , for some reason this one isn't doing it for me( top looks good but not the face or bottom to me , looks cheap ) but the one I am excited about is the Titleist mini and sorry Titleist blows PXG away from driver to ball...so does Taylor made ......oh ya so does Callaway and Ping would too but they don't have a ball , I would give that title to PXG for direct to consumer thou for sure , I was hoping Cobra would have a mini this year but haven't heard anything yet, and thank you James for putting out a video everyday !! it is always the first thing I watch when I turn the computer on or I save it to enjoy with my lunch!!
The debate on whether a golfer should carry a driver, mini driver and 3 wood…..no. No, if you have a mini driver you do not need a driver. Nobody needs a 3 wood. In fact, almost all golfers can do well to not carry any of the above and just play a club like a 5 or 7 wood or a Cleveland Hy Wood that will get you 225-245 yards off of the tee and in play.
Great to see that PXG is getting into the mini drivers. They have really progressed, definitely a complete brand now.
Agreed!
Just ordered one because of the adjustability, this thing will be amazing!

The headcovers this year are fantastic. Cobra and PXG are the best. And Callaway.
As always, excellent informative video
I’ve been hoping that you reviewed this club ever since I first saw the pictures of it and once again your review doesn’t disappoint
Great meeting you today! Keep up the great videos. Still want to see you tackle the 4th at waterfront 👀
Cheers mate great to see you too! A bit cold for me! That was dedication from you and the Mrs! Haha
Nice testing James, looks good. 👍
That weight system is great. Leave it to pxg to go where no one's gone before. They need to put that in their drivers also before someone else does.
⛳️🔥🎥❤️
The PXG proto X and X+ is the exact same weight system?
Hi James! Lower the tee in mini drivers. Will help with the left shot.
Thanks buddy!

cabooom baby next Thursday I am in for fitting flying in from malta
James - did you try hitting the club off the deck? If yes, how does it compare to the BRNR Mini Driver or AI Smoke 340TI?
A 5 o'clock video???? This was totally thrown me
Hahaha embargo lifted and I took the punt johny boy! Thanks for tuning in!
I have the original one from taylormade.. don't use it a ton but love it when I do. May have to give this a peep!

The price is what kills me. PXG are a rich man's brand

Why are you angry?
Jack Nicklaus always had a swing coach - Jack Grout.
Started with him in 1950.
Jheeez, that’s a sexy looking club! 🔥
Thanks for this review. Interesting club. I'm older and shorter now and am wondering if a mini driver could be right for me.
The top Looks like the Taylormade mini
If only I’d filmed a comparison for you to come at the weekend? 👀😂🙌🏼⛳️❤️
Stop it!! James I want this now and I'm running out of money😂 i just got the ping g430 10K,.... but now i need this too!!!
You’ve chosen wisely!
Please do a PXG Mini Driver vs Taylormade BRNR Mini Driver we need to know lol especially me great video cheers from Canada
which do you like better? Taylormade mini or pxg?
Video coming soon… 🙌🏼👀❤️
Wish it was matte on top.
James, can you do a head to head comparison of the PXG and Taylormade mini drivers?
You do have your favourites know before you start which you will like the best cobra for instance will not be in your bag pxj or callaway probably
I am very lucky to be able to try and film
Everything. But you are right, I guess that is human nature
@JamesRobinsonGolf appreciate the honesty thanks for replying

James while you're in the states are you going to get to Solina to play Wes and George?
I’d love to but I think they are busy taking over the world lol ⛳️
Which is better this one or Taylormade.?
Video already filmed 🙌🏼😂❤️
I had a go with this not long ago, tested it against my v steel 13 degree 2 wood and they went the same distance. V steel was £20 lol
Do PXG say what cc head this is? how does it compare in size to the Callaway and Taylormade James?
300 on the nose buddy. Callaway is 340 and Taylormade is 304… it’s almost like I filmed a Comparison today isn’t it… ⛳️👀😂❤️
@@JamesRobinsonGolf AH amazing thats why your the best, have you been to a regular pxg fitting centre if so would you recommend it?

I’m with you on this. Does the real forgiveness come from the head being smaller or the shaft being shorter? Or perhaps a combo of both?

@@TrailDog1 thanks for reply, which makes perfect sense. Cheers.
Any chance you will meet fans in Jacksonville FL? I am visiting family down there 1/11-18
We’re sticking in Orlando buddy!
@ Thanks for replying! Safe travels!
Play LPGA and Orange County also.
Which one is LPGA bud? Placed orange county last year it was great
LPGA Jones course Daytona. bayhill, lpga, sawgrass in a loop. 7 courses in 7 days on a trip of a lifetime!
Amazing!
Yes it was a good trip LJB 😊😊
Still too pricey for $449.
This club fails on at least one parameter, or perhaps you forgot to mention it - how good is the coffee it makes?
Hahahaha. I’m on tea atm

So basically it's a 2 wood?
I've got a Wilson D9 13* 3 wood. Looks like exactly the same thing. I paid less than 100 bucks for mine.
Exactly and could be a good replacement for my old warbird Duce
@@tylenoljackson9378 Yes, same sort of thing but without the adjustability.
No. Literally nothing alike. Best to not watch half a video before you make a judgment and do some research.
Yes but can you use it off the deck!? ;)
Dave needs to have a go with it.
I've got the option of putting my taylormade mini driver in the bag if my g430 10k max starts to misbehave
You should tee it lower
Could do without writing on toe looks cheap
why 1 loft? real difference would be a 15/16* option that others dont offer? just another 13* 2 wood...
That’s a 3 wood mate
@@JamesRobinsonGolf not off a tee with a mega sweet spot mate...

the mini driver is probably got a bigger head than the old timber drivers.

£429 ooooooooosh
Can’t see it being any better than the TM Brnr Mini
Looks fantastic but not the name 😢
Too much$
Mini drivers makes zero sense!
Another pointless club 😜
Do you ever have anything positive to say? Lol
For you maybe….
