I enjoyed it. It was nice to watch the players in a not-so-formal setting and having fun. The bonus is that we will get to watch Tiger play golf more and I’m not sure who would complain about that.

I enjoy screen golf. I am in south Korea and there are screen golf places EVERYWHERE. It is fun to be able to get 18 holes in at anytime of the day or night (there is a 24 Hour Golf Zon Park near me and another one that closes at 3am). It is also nice that I can finish 18 holes in an hour or 2. I love having the stats on the screen and the ability to see a replay of my shots. I am surprised that they weren't showing the stats during the TGL. Maybe they will change that.

I play in a association of players who are all over 60 years of age. We are in the upper Midwest and play outdoors from April they October. We now play at a X Golf facility throughout the winter months every Monday. It’s a great excuse to get out of the house when it’s around zero Fahrenheit and the ground has a foot of snow covering it.

Does it look fun to do with the boys? Yes. Is it a television event or something I’d pay to go watch? No. Sim golf is great for practice and teaching and cold winters. But the game is meant to be played on green grass outdoors. For those of us who insist on walking, it is great excercise and the best way to spend 4 hours outside. Good stuff James !

They aren’t playing real courses because of the green. You can’t play 17 at Sawgrass with the TGL green. They designed every TGL hole with the same green (the one they have in the stadium). They just turn it and make the undulations different. They didn’t want to disrespect any of the great courses by playing them, but substituting their green.

The green moves and articulates. There’s 189 activators and plates underneath that move and change the green to the same slopes as the real courses

    • @timhamer6176
      @timhamer6176 9 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

Charlotte, I understand the green moves on actuators. In fact, I alluded to that in my comment. What I am saying is that TGL has only 1 green, so they can’t play real courses because real courses have 18 greens of different shapes and sizes that TGL can’t replicate with 1 green. In my example of 17 at Sawgrass, TGL can’t replicate that on their green because the TGL green is a different shape and size than Sawgrass and they don’t want to substitute their own (TGL) green to play 17 at Sawgrass and disrespect TPC Sawgrass by doing so.

We watched the replay on Sky Sports Golf last night - 9pm our time, 7pm UK, and thoroughly enjoyed it, even the other end of the sofa enjoyed it. It’s the first round of the first year so they can only learn and improve. The technology was amazing and did show player ball speeds James mentioned. I couldn’t see the point in the referee though, didn’t seem to have any impact on anything that happened.

"Could this be the future?" This sounds like you're thinking that this might be a replacement for current golf entertainments. It's an interesting addition, and promotes golf - with or without simulators. I believe that golf simulators have a future far more significant today than the case 2 years ago. The technology has improved by leaps and bounds - as shown by your simulator at Wooley Park. So for me TGL is another option rather than a replacement.
I'm using a SkyTrak launch monitor with Creative 3D software that offers my local course, Moliets, as one of many courses. All this setup in my back garden. However, a massive step forward for me would be the simulator you have at Wooley Park. With that device in a large shed at the bottom of the garden I might seriously think about abandoning my membership at Moliets GC. But the bang for the buck is still playing golf on a real course with friends and a lively chat after the round. We're living in interesting times of change.

In some countries in the northern hemisphere it's really hard to get out and play golf for parts of the year so some kind of indoor golf is very attractive and maybe something for amateurs will develop from this.. With TGL specifically, I liked the interaction of the players, the pace was good and as a spectator event everything is happening right in front of you. I hope it does well.

Ive seen a good bit of discourse about why the TGL doesn't play real holes, and honestly I'm fine with it, cause we can see these golf pros actually play the real holes outside, I don't think we need to see them play it on a simulator, just with a different green shape. I'd rather them do what they are doing and just go crazy with hole designs that absolutely can't work in real life. Also the idea of the spear isn't to look like a real hole, it's made to be a test of driver distance and accuracy. But they really could make it look a lot better than they did for sure lol.

I enjoyed it a lot, got to see a little personality from the golfers but I feel they could improve it the following ways:
Talk more about the shots, yardage? Club? Proper golf Comms would help
Fan interaction: during the interval have some fans try and island green or longest drive
    No more DJ Khaled, ever.

I watched every shot from every player on tgl YT channel and from both teams it was about 30 minutes. Now im sure there was a lot more to watch but from that, not to impressed. The undulating greens were cool, they should have that for the fairway as well, instead of just flat. Hard to see where the ball was hit until it hit the screen, no shot tracer. I understand that its not the total show but, it just didn't seem to engrossing. The price to go to an event is ridiculous, $197.00 US. Cheers and thanks for your thoughts!

  • @XenomorphLee
    @XenomorphLee 11 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

I think it definitely has potential
I think TGLs team system is a bit too basic though imo ..
Like I know when LIV launched a few people didn’t really get behind the team aspect of it because the teams felt a bit random at the start but I think now the teams in LIV are handled well because it’s a team name & logo selected by that captain & it adds personality through that team/team captain ..
Where I can’t really see anyone truly getting behind these very generic team brands in TGL..
I think the TGL would of been better off going almost down the same route & letting say Rory have his team say idk The Clovers & have it be Rory Shane & then perhaps say Tommy fleetwood
Like I think the captain system is actually more fun to get behind then just some generic name likr the Boston common GC?
Like who even came up with these names honestly LOL
I think because this is connected to Tiger Woods I doubt you’ll know James but Tiger Woods is now also an official partner with 2K sports the gaming company & that golf game actually has a golf course creator feature built into the game & has a very large community across all gaming platforms where people play in weekly & daily tournaments in the in game societies which is basically like having your own golf club & people join these to then play these tournaments on courses created by the community ..
& with that feature in the game it is very possible we could see holes from that video game imported into TGL because there are many extremely talented people who create their own fantasy courses but also recreate thousands of real life courses to incredible accuracy..
So if that was to happen that could gain a lot of traction from people who enjoy golf but maybe only play via video games ..
As for the timing in the UK it definitely needs to find a more suitable time slot where it can grab a bigger audience ..
And again LIV sorta has the right idea I know they travel globally but for the most part most of their events are on at a time where even a UK viewer can watch a few rounds & still sleep ..
As for it being in one place that’s definitely going to hold it back in some aspects I think but if the teams are more stand out-ish & the whole vibe of TGL is a more fun/relaxed environment & we see some of these pros opening up having a bit of a laugh ect then people will get behind it and behind a team eventually ..
But I think if it continues to grow I’d hope they would find a way to take this thing on the road or idk potentially build arenas world wide that can facilitate TGL while still catering to other services while it’s out of use …
I think it has promise but i really think if there selling point is to get people behind these teams it needs to connect with an audience outside the US & these teams need to almost become brands like LIV with the crushers & fireballs Range goats ect like some might not like LIV but the team names are certainly stand out ish & memorable
I just don’t know if bay hill & Boston common & I literally can’t remember any of the others already like there all very forgettable.. it need something that’s gonna stand out and make people think OHH that’s Tigers teams merch or Rory’s ect ..
But I think the arena atmosphere on a travelling show with EU fans or Aussies would be really fun & crazy xD
Could definitely see the crowd getting into it and the tech behind it all & how it looks & plays they smashed it out the park
& I think the formats of golf played & rule sets are decent/fun

People complain about LIV music and yet they played music. There were numerous empty seats even though tickets were 160 dollars. The arena was amazing and the shot clock was good I'll give them that, but to me they missed by a long way. I also read in the USA they were bombarded with commercials. My idea would be that amatuers would be picked from the local community, arranged by hcp with an A,B,C, and a D player. The pro representing the TEAM CITY pulls applicant names from a barrel, and they play the game instead, against other cities.
This would get more attention from the masses I believe.

I think the biggest problem for me is the fact that they played a made up course and that’s probably because I’m in my 60’s and not into that kind of thing, and I think if they were to play real golf courses they could show case courses that the tour doesn’t play and if they are too short could easily lengthen them and still have it be more realistic but I’m not the audience that they are going for, they are looking for the 16-30 crowd so they probably enjoy it

thought it was interesting - do think it'll get people into golf and facility is amazing
think the hammer thing would work better if each team had 2 or 3 hammers instead of passing one back and forward
think its going to rely on the personalities of the players and how much they put into it and could imagine it could become a nuisance for them with extra travel etc.
Found it to be more of an exhibition event - dont care about the teams and dont think i ever would
living in ireland i won't be watching it cause I'm not staying up until 2am on tuesday night

Gave it a try but thought it was dull. Firstly, PGA tour golfers aren’t exactly brimming with charisma, they need Bryson type personalities, just watch the ‘walk on’, it set the tone. The arena concept won’t work with 1500 spectators in a cavernous space, needs more people almost on top of the action, possibly get some English football fans in there to give them some ideas. They’ve missed the chance to mix the teams, get female golfers involved, get some youth golfers involved, you ain’t growing the game churning out the same group of PGA millionaires who are always grouped together every week in tour. The format also doesn’t build any big crowd moments, maybe a couple of long outs and Fitzys spinning wedge were the highlights in 2 hours of action, golf is too hard to produce constant amazing shots. Will I watch again? Probably to give it a fair chance, but on first impressions it did nothing for me. Love the content James 👍

Why would you want to see TGL players compete on courses that exist in real life? That's ridiculous and BORING... They need to make courses that can only exist in cyberspace.. you do realize why right? In case you don't... Which is very likely... I'll explain. Why would you watch these teams play courses that already exist, when it would be BETTER to see them compete on those same courses in REAL LIFE on the ACTUAL COURSE? What will make this league better than it already is.. allowing amature teams compete against the pros... Using a handicap system... FOR REAL MONEY.

I turned it off after 2 mins because it’s boring. There are no elements or pressure. I’d perhaps be more interested if the pressure stakes were set up as all the win proceedings go to the winning team’s chosen charities (so long as it’s not their own). To fix the entertainment - have alternate shot with players playing with fans on each hole. Would be much better to see them have to dig out of holes made by non-golfers or average golfers.

The reason they don't play actual courses, is because they cannot match the greens. So the designed courses that use the greens like they are.

I was interested from the novelty standpoint, and maybe in this age of video games and simulated reality there's a place for TGL But so much of what makes golf fascinating lies in the variables, the weather, the wind, tall grass, difficult lies, etc. The drama! The heartbreak! I found myself getting bored rather quickly with TGL.

I thought it was kind of boring. I also don't get all the emphasis on "trash talk". Golfers typically are respectful to one another during competition. It all seems like fabricated hype. I also think the city names are ridiculous. The cities have co connection, fan base, tax exemptions, stadiums, or anything connecting them to a team. They should have just named them like LIV teams.

I rather play than watch. I play every week including wiinter. Fell asleep watching. Age has nothing to do it. It's like watching someone playing video games. Different yes, would I watch again no. People will say you won't be missed, yes but this is my opinion.

I tried to watch the highlights but got bored. It looks like it would be fun to play, but watching someone else, even Tiger, is a no go. It really seemed like they were forcing the enthusiasm with the audience, which I heard were paid seat fillers. But the golf manufacturers and media will get behind it and it will probably flourish for a year or two, but with no audience will probably die.
