  • This week for walkthrough Wednesday I'd love take you guys through what I consider one of the most radical boats currently being built, the Wave 50 Catamaran.
    This boat is built in the yachting capital of Poland, Gdansk. Wave has been building boats for quite sometime under a different manufacturing name, and this is their first new design in 10 years.
    Check out the link below for more information:

    I heard the forward cockpits like the one on this catamaran are dangerous for ocean crossings because if they fill up with water from rough seas and or weather it can weigh the front of the catamaran down. Does this sound accurate or it’s not at all accurate, how does water escape from that deep forward cockpit. Please share this knowledge with me, thank you. I give this catamaran an B- it was very nice, I like most everything about it, except no solar, that’s a big drawback for me, I like solar boats because it’s very useful, it’s impact on the environment is next to zero, plus electric propulsion. I really need clarity about the forward cockpit concern that I brought up. Thank you, be well.

      @LoanwordEggcorn 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Forward cockpits always have a drain of some sort, but while it drains it could load the front.
      This boat looks more to be for coastal cruising and shorter trips and not ocean crossings.

    This boat is not it. That rig looks like a it will leave you in heaps of shit. The design makes me feel more uncomfortable than being in church with a hangover, or primary school with a boner. Someone truly needs to go to jail for this horrific injustice against design and the whole sailing community for that matter.

  • @pioneer_1148

    They've got a tonne of space for the length but I can't help thinking this will be an utterly terrible sailing yacht. Unless they've sprung for foam cored construction it'll be horrifically heavy and the centre of effort is extremely high.
    The raised attachmemt points for the forward sails are also going to make it extremely dangerous/difficult to change them in anything but a flat calm

    Great walkthrough Wiley! thanks so much for making the decision to step aboard and create a video for everyone to see. The best part of your channel (for us) is the experience you bring to your videos and the industry. In your experience, do you think the massive forward cockpit and small trampolines would be suitable for crossing oceans??

    • @catamarancentral

      @@catamarancentral "Sailed" or motored? I am trying very hard to picture that bow cutting across the Gulfstream or working upwind. The mainsail looks undersized and there does not seem to be any option for anything other than the installed genoa headsail. How would you even rig any kind of spinnaker with that bow hardtop structure? The boat is beautiful and the design is certainly a conversation starter, but we need to see her in action.

      @@catamarancentral it is beautiful, but seems impractical, for many reasons already mentioned here. Some great solutions, as the possibility of raising the transom platform to expand the cockpit and the oversized bow lounge. But the cabins are cramped for the size, and the glass heads are less than inviting. Why not just keep the glass on the upper third of the walls? Definitely a charter's boat.

    My rant that nobody cares about but me:
    I'm assuming you aren't with Denison anymore. They posted a video and were touting their relationship with the Nelk Boys who have been involved in multiple scandals bilking their fans. That makes me especially think Bob Denison is either oblivious to their actions, or just doesn't care because they are popular and bring him business. But how they got that money is important. They are corrupt and under SEC investigation. It makes me think that were I in a position to buy a yacht, it wouldn't be with them. That's my rant. Really nothing to do with you, I think you are an honest and hardworking salesman who deserves his success and you are measured by the company you keep and keeping company with rich but corrupt people and being ok with that because of money and notoriety, sleezebag level of company ownership. If you are still with them, then I still respect that decision as it is your life, but be careful with anyone that is OK associating and promoting a relationship with famous but proven (Coffeezilla and Spencer Cornelia have proven it) corrupt people.

    Keep everything the same, but extend the bows 10 feet further forward, and I'd love this. Just not a fan at all of those dinky tramps. Why bother with them at all at this point... just make it solid like the Bali's... Though I personally prefer big trampolines.

    Great walkthrough, even though a little short.
    I see a lot of problems with this design, making it just good for a week-ender, not a blue water cruising cat.
    1°) Solar: there's no place to put solar panels, so that makes the generator mandatory and most probably running most of the days the boat is used
    2°) how do you handle the main sail? With the removable soft top, you can't walk on the roof to handle (like reef, etc...) the main sail
    3°) how do you dock the boat since you can't see any of the corners (because no, you can't even see the front corners, at least from your video)
    4°) how do you handle the front sails when you can't access them due to the beak?
    All in all, this boat should be only sold as a motor yacht and not a sail boat. And yet, some design flaws make in unpractical even for this.

    • @svstellamaris6130
      @svstellamaris6130 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This boat is for fair weather local use. She’ll pull a few thousand per day as a day charter and entertain her owner every other weekend. Beautiful with unique design; her owner is very lucky.
      Her massive genset eliminates the need for solar.
      The sails allow the owner to enjoy the romance of sailing he grew up with, but doesn’t make time for now. Batteries could achieve equal silent propulsion, but electricity is sterile and boring. The wind is alive and dangerous; a game the owner has played on the way to success that funded such a daring design.
      I also enjoy blue water boats, but this fits a very different niche.
      Good day.

    • @jasiumodrzynski861
      @jasiumodrzynski861 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      1) solars are now installed on the huge roof, giving 4kW peak power
      2) you handle it from the sundeck, if needed you can walk on the solid frame (tried - it worked perfectly fine)
      3) 360° cameras system
      4) you don't need to access the front sails to use them. Everything is handled from the sundeck

    This is definitely a conversation starter. The port side reminds me of the xquisite x5 with the frosted glass shower areas.
    Couple questions? How would one access the boom with the soft top? In the listing it says 4 engines? Did they hybridize the volvos? How would someone access the jib? The hardtop looks slick and pretty curved.
    In my opinion as a faceless internet pundit, this yacht would be great as a motor only.
