That's because Mystic Quest already existed in Europe since that was the localized name for the first Seiken Densetsu (Mana) game on the Gameboy. In America it was called Final Fantasy Adventure, likely so that the FF name would make it sell better. Not sure if that worked or not, but it's actually a pretty good Gameboy game. If you like 2D Zelda, I'd say give it a try.
@@jacobmonks3722 Actually, unlike the first three SaGa games, the first Mana game WAS a Final Fantasy spinoff. There's plenty of FF iconography in the game (Moogles appear as a status condition, and you get a Chocobo buddy who later gets robot legs which allow it to cross water). And the Japanese name was even _Seiken Densetsu: Final Fantasy Gaiden._ Later games in the series just moved away from it, and the remake severed its ties completely.

super cool that you brought in your uncle for this video. heard you mentioning this guy for what, like 7 years now? fun cameo. nice work powering through this game lol
VI is piss-easy, dude. Half the playable characters have OP special attacks right out the gate, and once you get access to Espers, that only makes the game easier. Plus, depending on what version you're playing, you can make nearly any enemy vulnerable to instant death spells due to a bug. V has the Job System and lots of clever equipment setups you can do, but because of that, the designers compensated by throwing in tons of enemies with "fuck you, you lose" tactics.
Also, ignore the odd video hiccup at 3:45. It's all part of the edginess. Yes, yes, that'll do nicely John.

His uncle really does look like an Alolan John.
I missed the good'ol Johnny Smash Brawl intros whenever a new guy is introduced to his channel. I'm P sure the last one was Antdude's in his Sonic Advance video in early 2017.

This game gets a training wheels/10

Aw yes. Back before I lost interest in ProJared because of controversy.
@@Rabbitlord108 ProJared was innocent tho. Completely. He literally did nothing wrong. Check out his channel again, he has a lot of new videos like his reviews of FFV, FFVI, FFVII, FFVIII, and FFIX. (he still doesn't post very often) I'm glad I didn't unsub from him and other channels that got cancelled like Mangs until all the details came out. Luckily I've never been subscribed to a channel that was actually guilty of what they were being cancelled for. All the channels I watched that were "exposed" were able to later prove their innocence. ZeRO too. Unlike some people like LenTotally, Cosmadore, MiniLadd, and LionMaker, the people I watched were completely innocent. Twitter be wack yo.
@@krimsonkatt Congratulations. You've convinced me to give his content a second chance.
"I'm sure you've seen this on TH-cam"
I saw it in a Slapstick comic my Dad has.
Europe's first ever Final Fantasy. Actually more insulting than giving us nothing.
I can see how it's insulting
At least the second FF that Europe got was better(not that its hard to be better)
I disagree! It's really not that bad of a game if you actually give it a chance. Sure it's easy to rag on it for it's simplicity, but it's still an enjoyable experience overall
still love that Mime and Freelancer are THE strongest jobs once the hurdle is passed
I know he's not my uncle...but dammit I just call him Uncle as well.
I dunno if this will get drowned by the algorithm, but this marathon made me take the plunge and finally start some of the Final Fantasy titles I’ve got. I’m working my way through X as my first, I’ve got 6 on GBA and I’ve picked up Origins and 9, really looking forward to them.
Even if I may not be playing all of them, your tales are entertaining as hell to watch and I’m really glad I’m finally spending time with the series. Thank you, Johnny - the passion for this series and in other videos like Onimusha is clear. Looking forward to what you’ve got in store for the future.
1:18 It's been a while since I've seen the bumper for a new guest.
Just wanted to say, after watching the ending bit, it wasn't this series that inspired me to play Final Fantasy, but it was actually your Top 10 videos on Final Fantasy music. I watched out of boredom years ago, was shocked by the music quality, then went on to try... Final Fantasy 1. But had I never seen those videos I might never be an RPG fan, so thanks Johnny. Those videos really have indirectly changed my life.
Uncle over here with some beautiful hair.
Can we please get Johnny to half a million subscribers this year, I can’t think of a more underrated TH-camr
Johnny's Uncle has freaking rad hair .
The final boss music in the game is fucking INCREDBLE
We finally got to meet the man, the myth, the legend: JOHNNY’S UNCLE
Well technically he's shown his face on SGB months ago.
His first debut was TooManyGames recap video.
@@shpladau years ago
The monster design of the game was great though. I do dig the art, especially the one of the headless knight.
It's kinda odd that in the pal version it's called Mystic Quest Legends.
@@SilverHairedFreak25 I forgot that you could ride chocobo in SD1.
But I am glad the Mana series became more its own thing. It's a very overlooked Square franchise.
Seeing your uncle in a video is like a fever dream dude
Growing up with your videos I was always super curious if he would ever appear given how much of an influence he had on your gaming past since you mentioned him so much throughout your career
Since No More Heroes 3 is coming out in August, you planning on remaking you SGB review for NMH 1 and 2?
(Counting the videos of both Sonic and Metroid videos before VS. series)
Looks like you’re pretty much packed for this summer, Johnny.
UNCLESILVER!!! YAS!!
I gotta be honest I have sooooooo much nostalgia for this game's intro and aesthetic.
Ah yes… Segas 30th Anniversary for their most iconic IP, “Dragonball Furrys”….
Johnny vs Yakuza wen xD
@@TheMountyPresents After SEGA buys Galaxytrail.
When I saw the Smash intro for his uncle, I was like, "UNCLE?!"
Oh no… not mystic quest. This is gonna be a good video.
Damn bruh Uncle Greg is such a bro. I genuinely mean this but he inspired me to be a better uncle to my own nephew.
Does this mean you will now use a Hot Wings Down to revive your party members?
Amazing alliteration on the back of the box there. The Doom music is perfect.
That feel when the game is locked to Game Journalist difficulty.
I'm so proud to call this my first FF game! I've only beaten 4 and 13 but the characters, locations and the music from this game is so nostalgic! I think I started playing this game when I was 5 or 6 so around 1999 or 2000 lol
"failed at getting new players to the market" except in my case, my first rpg WAS mystic quest, and i look back at it fondly for introducing me to the genre but it's not something i'd wanna go back to.
Exactly. It got me into the Final Fantasy franchise. I'd never even heard of it until my parents bought it. After this game, I got super excited for Final Fantasy 3 (or rather 6).
So your uncle is basically Alolan Johnny? Neat.
Long story short, if you want an entry level RPG, play Miitopia.
super cool that you brought in your uncle for this video. heard you mentioning this guy for what, like 7 years now? fun cameo. nice work powering through this game lol
Why would ff5 be considered too hard 6 was a lot tougher
VI is piss-easy, dude. Half the playable characters have OP special attacks right out the gate, and once you get access to Espers, that only makes the game easier. Plus, depending on what version you're playing, you can make nearly any enemy vulnerable to instant death spells due to a bug.
V has the Job System and lots of clever equipment setups you can do, but because of that, the designers compensated by throwing in tons of enemies with "fuck you, you lose" tactics.
This will always be the "the video where we see Johnnys uncle"
Pretty cool seeing him show up besides as a picture in the last one.
