A really practical training videos with teaching ideas when using breakout rooms. If you are a teacher and want some specific ideas about using breakout rooms then this is a useful video.
    0:00 Breakout Rooms- Introduction
    00:47 Breakout Rooms- Get started
    01:52 Real examples- Google Docs
    03:17 Create a document
05:26 Share the content: how it works
    08:07 Working with Padlet
    12:06 Thanks for watching
What I try to do in this video is demonstrate some of the techniques that I have been using when working with students in breakout rooms. The biggest problem with breakout rooms is that when students are in breakout rooms, it is not possible to screen share content with them. So we need to share anything we want the students to work on before they go into breakout rooms. There are a number of really simple but easy techniques that can make this possible.
In this video you will see a real example of what I do with Google Docs for example. I can create a Google Doc and then get the students to open the Google Doc before they move into breakout rooms. Once they are in breakout rooms, they can open up the Google Doc and add their ideas into it. One really good tip is to divide the Google Doc into sections so that the students know in what part to write. So I create a section for group 1, group 2 etc. When the students are in groups they know where to write. Once they come back to the main room, they can take it in turns to screen share the Google Doc and talk about their part.
When students work in breakout rooms, you need to choose a group leader. This is the person who will screen share when the students are in breakout rooms and this is the person who can write into the document. Generally I don't like the idea of ANYONE just writing into the Google Doc, it is much better if it is just one person that does it. This person can also report back to the whole class once the students are back in the main room.
I have also suggested a nice idea using Padlet. Padlet is a really powerul tool and one that really works well in breakout rooms. Again the key is to prepare what you want to do before the students move into breakout rooms. Remember you are not really able to screen share once they are in breakout rooms, unless you actually move into that breakout room.
This video is full of useful tips and tricks. I have tried to make it as practical as possible and the ideas I suggest use FREE tools that all teachers and training can use. You will be able to apply these teaching ideas in your courses immediately.

Thank you so very much for sharing your expertise and knowledge. I recently startedto use zoom, and now will be trying out break out rooms. Question. I have a word document made up which I want all the students to do. Do I follow the same steps? Open up my document first, then create BORms. Will all the students see this document? This is a collaborative assignment. Thank you, kindly.

If you use Google slides, each room can have its own slide and they don't see what the other group is writing
