How to Share/Archive HEC-RAS Files (and how to clean up mapper afterwards)

  • Note: I have just started sending people this video if they need to send me RAS files.
RAS generates a lot of files with cryptic names and extensions. If you want to share a RAS plan but don't want to include all the big or extraneous files, it can be difficult to decide what to include.
But RAS has built in tools to create a "Share" package that includes the "minimum required files." RASMapper also includes tools that will clean up the extraneous "file stubs" in Mapper if you don't share all the geometries or results.

TBH Stanford, I like the new "hidden layers" but HEC should still make them accessible. For example, if I want to import reference lines via a shapefile, I can no longer do it. Instead, I have to draw a dummy reference line in the geometry data editor then open RAS Mapper and import via shapefile and then delete the dummy reference line

I reorganized my parent folder and now HEC-RAS is unable to find files such as my terrain and mannings n. How can I point the project to those without creating a new copy?

Yeah, that can happen. Go into mapper and remove them from the tree, than re-add them from the new location
