  • What most people don't know is that this video was never meant to be a proper demonstration of the family form, it was intentionally performed to hide many of the family's signature movements and internal ideas. As was often the case in Chinese martial arts, for any public display, the audience was always kept in mind, including the filmmaker, as well as the film's purpose. In this case, the audience was intended to be a very limited group of government officials and was not meant for wider distribution. Unfortunately, many have touted this demonstration as the quintessential Yeung Family form. It isn't. That said, Yeung Sau Chung's fluidity and power are hard to miss.
Yang (Yeung) Sau Chung was the eldest son of Yang Cheng Fu. In 1949 he moved to Hong Kong and he taught privately at his home until his death in 1985.
    His own words:
I started learning Tai Chi Chuan at the age of eight. Having learnt Tai Chi Chuan and the use of knife, spear and sword, I became my father's assistant at the age of fourteen and I taught under his guidance. At the age of nineteen, I had been appointed as the physical instructor in various business concerns, government departments and societies in many provinces all over China, I also acted as private coach occasionally.
I have been very demandingand and strict with all my students, particularly with my daughters: Amy, Tai-Yee; Mary, Ma-Lee; and Agnes, Yee-Lee.

Thank you for contextualising and clarifying the purpose of this film. As with all films, understanding the context in which it was shot is a vital element in gaining a truer understanding of it. That said, the video may not be the "complete" form, however it blows me away!

Thanks for posting this. He may be concealing some elements but what is shown is worth seeing. I first learned Yang 108 movement long form then 37 movement short form. Many of the postures and sequences from both those forms are clearly visible here.

I would be very surprised if it was the exact same form - - Marshall Ho's Teacher Choy Hok Pang learned the "Large Frame" from Yang Chengfu. Yang Sau Chung here presents the "Medium Frame/Tiger Form". Both Forms share the same sequence but have different Characteristics. See e.G. the Position at 1:03 that is not done in the Large Frame Execution of the form. Let me know if I'm wrong.

Goju Ryu Karate with Yang Tai Chi element combined together can become a very powerful style beside the ground work of BJJ.

We want to correct a nonsense defamation from a well-known gossiper in the discussion.
Yang Sau Chung lived at two places in Hong Kong only.
From 1949 (just after his escape from mainland China) to 1953 in Yuen Long (a town in the western New Territories, Hong Kong).
In 1953, with help from his disciples, Yang Sau Chung moved to Hong Kong Island to a permanent home. He lived on No. 315 Lockhart Road, on the fourth floor. This was the main place where he taught boxing in Hong Kong. Until his death, he did not move from this place.

Yes, yes. I understand your perspective quite well. Please tell me ... do you have a video of a Yang family member who is able to move his body with his dantian? Do you understand what that means, to move the body with the dantian? Can you do it? It is a requirement of Taijiquan.

We get it, Mike Sigman. Just another keyboard warrior. Empty words. If you aren't willing or able to appear on your own behalf, you can send one of your students. If you can find one who will defend your words.
Until then - stop typing and start training.
Btw, your question shows your lack of knowledge. Obviously, everybody should do the form with the tan tien. But, there are many other deeper principles.

If Yang Sau Chung is Yang Chen Fu's son, then this must be the oldest Yang style tai chi form on film.

    • @Livingtree32
      @Livingtree32 ปีที่แล้ว

Nope, there are older videos of the Yang form. (I understand that you mean it in a different way maybe, but even then I would say, the oldest we have proof of on film is the oldest, not deducted by assumption)

There is no film of Yan Chen Fu. Yang Sau Chung is oldest son, so yes you are right. This is the oldest filmed original Yang Chen Fu style form performed by his first and best student, son.

@@rookeLeicesterThere are older videos of Yang style forms. Your assessment of original or best doesn’t matter, it’s factually not the oldest video of Yang style.

Yang Sau Chung was sort of a wastrel and was taken in by Tung Ying Jieh in Hong Kong. Tung taught YSC in an effort to help straighten out YSC's dissipated life. So what you're seeing is largely a reflection of the Tung Ying Jieh version of the Yang style.

Hello Mr. Sigman. Can you tell us where you got this informations? Does it come from Yang Sau Chung’s disciples or anyone that met him personally?
As this video was not his form. Anyone that thinks that this is his actual form does not understand Chinese culture.

@@BobJohnson992 We can only guess at the character flaws and/or mental health challenges that would lead one to defame a person of Yeung Sau Chung’s stature not to mention the Family’s reputation as a whole, based on second and third hand stories, especially in a public forum. "Wastrel" and "dissipated" are so far from the truth. The majority of serious practitioners, we are sure, will not take your comments seriously.
That said, for the record, the Family has stated clearly: Yeung Sau Chung had assisted his father, Master Yeung Ching Po, to teach Tai Chi Chuan since he was 14 years old. At the age of 19, he had become a physical education instructor for many businesses and government departments. He earned a high reputation, and many people from overseas came to learn from him. Hardly a "wastrel." In fact, Tung Ying Jie was mainly taught by him.
Hopefully, this will end further slanderous speculations on this topic...

@@yeungfamilytaichi Tung Ying Jie was mainly taught by Yeung Sau Chung? That will be news to the Tung family, I am sure. In terms of my information, it would come from what are described as "serious practitioners". Learn more about YSC and the Tung family in Hong Kong, would be my suggestion to you.
