Yo otaku, while I was watching the newest bomb I realized there were huge parallels between the gems grieving of rose, and homeworlds grieving of pink diamond. I feel like there's a lot to talk about on this topic and maybe you can talk about this in a video
What I personally think about Steven's "age up" abilities is -well- remember how he has to *feel* like he's a certain age to look that way? I think since the crystal gems are immortal, they keep treating him like a kid, making him stay in that form. But NOW he has Connie a human- GROWING- being that will make him feel older as she grow up herself, you could say Greg way this human link but a dad simply isn't enough. Dads treat you like kids no matter what and Connie is a LOVE interest making their bond much stronger. TLDR: Connie links Steven to the human world because she is a love interest and Steven will grow up with her.

Steven's growth curve is alluded to in the opening credits, where the gems are running in order of power level. Garnet>Pearl>Amethyst>Steven. Steven is stumbling and falls so far behind he can't even stay on camera, but then he comes bounding by and easily passes them all. We've already seen him basically surpass Amethyst. I suspect we will soon see an episode of him surpassing Pearl as well.
I think after this trip/ story arc where Steven felt like he almost lost everyone, there's gonna be a shift and he will become more mature/ serious (but still loveably dorky).
Fighting, fighting, fighting what Steven needs is to know more about Homeworld and Gem culture and not be dependent on the Crystal Gems for information. Steven didn't even see a human library until Connie took him at 14 that's messed up. For starters Steven needs to learn how to read and write Gemmish. He needs to learn about gems by himself and not just by Garnet.
Mr. Smiley had that cheap dinky thing and was going to rip people off. It was complete junk so it was because it was old and not because of Steven's strength.
Considering that SU has always been more story-driven than action-driven I always wondered if we would ever see Steven train and fight. I mean Connie is already training with Pearl , but Steven has always been more of a pacifist. I wonder if that is going to have to change because the diamonds are coming to earth soon
Dude, it's totally understandable if you're busy. We have a lot of things to do in our daily lives and it's really okay. Plus, you're theories are well thought out and make sense. SliceofOtaku I have an theory. do you mind expanding on it ? basically its about if pink diamond actually switched bodies with an rose quartz soldier to rebel against the diamonds and save earth . I feel this is why pearl stayed along rose and wears an pink diamond on her space suit . I feel she ran away from white diamond and met rose and became her pearl . also I believe this is why she didn't want bismuth to shatter the diamonds . although she didn't agree with them she still loved them , this is also why all the other rose quartz gems are bubbled in pink bubbles . also in the mural it shows rose holding an object what if instead that's her switching with the rose quartz or something along those lines . I feel rose had to shatter was now pink diamond because the rose that possessed that body had gone rouge and by the diamonds not knowing it started an war . it wasn't intentional at first ... she knew if she won this war it was save earth and it's humans and resources and proceeded. this is kinda rocky but I'd love if you checked it out

Thoughts: 1. I'd been thinking a lot lately about how gem powers seem to be a matter of constant evolution and self-discovery. Peri's metal powers are the most straightforward example, but I'd also included Pearl's spear lasers, which she apparently couldn't do when Bismuth was bubbled. But I hadn't even considered Steven's unique experiences relative to Rose and other re: healing spit/tears or shapeshifting as examples 2. Steven was actually 12 at the show's start. His 14th birthday came after "Sadie's Song", so his 13th couldn't have been until after "Steven and the Stevens". 3. Loved anime shoutouts :D I've thought a lot about the parallels of Gon and Steven. Plus anime tropes seem to be a really good place to look for predictions of what's to come, given how much the influence the show already (Oh hey, you said that almost verbatim immediately after I wrote this part >.>) 4. Really appreciate all the work you put into making these vids for us. It's a labor of love and content creators seldom get the credit they deserve. Thanks so much!
I can totally see Steven using Roses room like a gravity chamber from DBZ since his body unlike normal gems is effected by gravity or like the Hyperbolic Time Chamber as well. Pearl does train him but it's a little ineffective and more of a game.
I was thinking that Steven's age changing abilities relate to how old he feels. Over the stevenbomb, he definitely grew up emotionally. Maybe he'll finally age a bit physically because of it.

this show is all about character growth- including steven. This isn't DBZ where they can just jump forward to the cool new enemies with some plot-convenient super training. That's just not how SU works. It's not about battles and power struggles and getting stronger, that's all just a backdrop for the human struggles failures and triumphs that actually make the show so good

I wouldn't have too much of a problem with a time skip. In fact, I think if he did some training to better his skills and become more capable, he might mature and he'd become older since his aging powers change him into how old he feels mentally. I thought Steven's floating powers were pretty sharp in "Steven's Dream". I mean, he managed to have enough happy thoughts to pratically fly while his dad was being kidnapped. That's not an easy thing to do.
His powers are tied to his emotions, so the more stable his emotions R, the stronger his powers will be! Fusing w/Amethyst is a good Xample as it gave them an emotional clarity and closeness. Maybe the same will happen between the others, and through his strengthened relationships (and subsequent fusions) he will learn to hone his abilities. It would be great for all the characters and for Steven to finally get open and 100%percent comfortable w/the rest of the CG's! :D
Steven was twelve when his powers manifested, not thirteen. Two summers passed before the episode "Steven's Birthday", and he also had a birthday in the Steven Universe comics series.
To be quite fair, Steven has been training for about a year. The final episodes of Season 3 highlight how powerful Steven has come. He was able to go toe-to-toe with Bismuth who is able to duke it out with Garnet.
OMG I would love to see Steven be growing little by little cause seeing him change in one episode to another in a blink of an eye would just feel like the show it coming to an end because let's be honest if you make the whole show in a journey plot then being all grown up will seem somewhere towards the end...... or yeah he can shape-shift his physical age as a power..... OMG honestly I wouldn't even care just stay true to the original way it was written :) PS congrats on this channel

I would greatly love to see Steven being proactive about training. While Pearl may be a good instructor and Rose's armoury has pretty much any weapon he'd need, I think he should train in Rose's room to create ideal equipment, environments, and opponents, and intensify based on Steven's skill.
i THINK the writers are more true to life in making steven figure out things and his powers as life comes. In reality things happen during "training" that could mess it up or speed it. Its mandatory in Japanese animations for a main character to have a training period but i think the writers of steven universe may think more outside the box than just that
I want to see a version of Steven that has to go back in time to "set right what once went wrong" or something like that. It would let us see a Steven w/ his potential, + still see him grow into his potential! But basically, I want to turn him into a Dave.
I thought it was pretty obvious his mental state is linked to his body age. When Connie says "i'm glad I'll get to grow up with you" and Steven reverts back to a baby- as a physical baby he couldn't communicate other than cry or hold Connie's hands, but it did seem like he could understand. I don't think it really relates to any other gems' powers. Amethyst, the amazing shapeshifter, shape shifts into a baby, but actually doesn't act like a baby. So I think this is evidence to what SliceofOtaku says- that Steven's powers are different compared to even other Rose Quartzes because he is half human.
sliceofotaku just an idea but maybe the pearls of each diamond reflect the personality of their diamond. Like how blue pearl is very much like blue diamond, very sad and full of grief, and yellow pearl who is very proud, like yellow diamond. Maybe pearl(white) is the closest connection we have to white diamond.
He needs to do SOME form of training. Remember normal gems are created knowing how to do everything they need to, but that isn't the case with Steven since he's part human. In that sense a comparison can be drawn with Pearl in that she also had to train to be able to actually be useful in a fight as more than just a shield for Rose. Steven should therefore really get some sort of training arc before the watermelon really hits the fan.
Train, people love character development, any kind, and when it happens,Steven Universe goes wild, so more of the wild character development will do LOTS.
Maybe Pink saw the breeding with humans could make Gems stronger , and not the need to constantly find a new sorce to create new gems. So gem and human cross breeding could make gems that kept there powers and still fuse.
I would like see a time skip that also lets Steven age just a little bit where he could put his hair into a ponytail and he could be taller. I think this time skip should be at least 6-18 months and actually refine Steven's powers where he doesn't have to always have Connie doing the sword-fighting. oh! and maybe through this training Steven's powers get STRONGER because you know Steven at this point in the show(before requested timeskip) has a good control over bubbles. Heck his bubbling techinique can have spikes and can bubble larger things
To be Honest, let's remember blue diamond has the ability over other emotions to. To give influence by her sadness and make others cry, of course most gems wave it off but is there any connection as to why Steven was crying? Is his supernatural ability of empathy and literally diving into people's emotions and minds connected to that? I mean he's not angry when inside malachites mind, why is it with blue he's suddenly crying is something most don't notice. Especially with the dramatic size and volume of tears. I think there's more and I wish a theorist would approach the nitty gritty details of this.

I definitely feel Steven needs to approach his training the same way Amethyst was forced to. Amethyst's free style fighting got her far enough until she faced Jasper and was flattened like a purple pancake and I think her potential as a great fighter is just beginning. Like her, Steven needs to train, but personally I think you're missing one of the things he needs training in and that's his emotions. As we've seen, his emotions are deeply tied into his powers and even he himself has expressed annoyance that he never knows about his powers until his emotions are influx. I'm kinda hoping Connie is going to be a decider in helping him with this - we've seen her grow in confidence and even some leadership abilities with her own training and she has been a great support to him when he has to face things that are hard. TBH, I would also like to see him grow up a bit, not just physically and mentally, but emotionally. One that irks me, especially after this last episode, is his constant naivete - he's constantly coming close to getting killed because he just HAS to save the person trying to kill him. That's not to say that I'd want him to give up that part of him that wants to help people, but his track record is 2-6: he's redeemed two people, with four of them trying to kill him. To go with the DBZ comparison, he's kinda like Goku or Gohan - Gohan, in that he didn't really want to fight and Goku in that he has the ability to turn his enemies into friends (Krillin, Yamcha, Tien, Piccolo, Vegeta, Android 16, etc), BUT BUT when it was clear a villain didn't want to be friends, didn't want their help, and was determined to kill them and everyone on Earth, they got serious and kicked butt. I think that's Steven's weakest flaw right now in that he's too much of a 'let's sit around the hippie tree and hold hands' and not enough of the 'alright, let's kick his butt'.
I think a time skip should happen when we see a direct cause then we go forward to see the effect. Time skips are often not use well in anime because it's often use as lazy device to tell character development rather then to show it in a character arc and I rather see how Steven became stronger without coming out of nowhere and feeling like wasn't earned but when it's showing a critical plot point that will have have consequences and change the entires show then it would be a good idea to just skip ahead unless it's suppose to be really subtle and forgotten in memory.
We definitely need a training arc. Rose's Room is definitely the Hyperbolic Time Chamber of the series.

I thought it was pretty obvious his mental state is linked to his body age. When Connie says "i'm glad I'll get to grow up with you" and Steven reverts back to a baby- as a physical baby he couldn't communicate other than cry or hold Connie's hands, but it did seem like he could understand. I don't think it really relates to any other gems' powers. Amethyst, the amazing shapeshifter, shape shifts into a baby, but actually doesn't act like a baby. So I think this is evidence to what SliceofOtaku says- that Steven's powers are different compared to even other Rose Quartzes because he is half human.
sliceofotaku just an idea but maybe the pearls of each diamond reflect the personality of their diamond. Like how blue pearl is very much like blue diamond, very sad and full of grief, and yellow pearl who is very proud, like yellow diamond. Maybe pearl(white) is the closest connection we have to white diamond.

He needs to do SOME form of training. Remember normal gems are created knowing how to do everything they need to, but that isn't the case with Steven since he's part human. In that sense a comparison can be drawn with Pearl in that she also had to train to be able to actually be useful in a fight as more than just a shield for Rose. Steven should therefore really get some sort of training arc before the watermelon really hits the fan.

Maybe Pink saw the breeding with humans could make Gems stronger , and not the need to constantly find a new sorce to create new gems. So gem and human cross breeding could make gems that kept there powers and still fuse.

I would like see a time skip that also lets Steven age just a little bit where he could put his hair into a ponytail and he could be taller. I think this time skip should be at least 6-18 months and actually refine Steven's powers where he doesn't have to always have Connie doing the sword-fighting. oh! and maybe through this training Steven's powers get STRONGER because you know Steven at this point in the show(before requested timeskip) has a good control over bubbles. Heck his bubbling techinique can have spikes and can bubble larger things

To be Honest, let's remember blue diamond has the ability over other emotions to. To give influence by her sadness and make others cry, of course most gems wave it off but is there any connection as to why Steven was crying? Is his supernatural ability of empathy and literally diving into people's emotions and minds connected to that? I mean he's not angry when inside malachites mind, why is it with blue he's suddenly crying is something most don't notice. Especially with the dramatic size and volume of tears. I think there's more and I wish a theorist would approach the nitty gritty details of this.

I definitely feel Steven needs to approach his training the same way Amethyst was forced to. Amethyst's free style fighting got her far enough until she faced Jasper and was flattened like a purple pancake and I think her potential as a great fighter is just beginning.
Like her, Steven needs to train, but personally I think you're missing one of the things he needs training in and that's his emotions. As we've seen, his emotions are deeply tied into his powers and even he himself has expressed annoyance that he never knows about his powers until his emotions are influx. I'm kinda hoping Connie is going to be a decider in helping him with this - we've seen her grow in confidence and even some leadership abilities with her own training and she has been a great support to him when he has to face things that are hard.
TBH, I would also like to see him grow up a bit, not just physically and mentally, but emotionally. One that irks me, especially after this last episode, is his constant naivete - he's constantly coming close to getting killed because he just HAS to save the person trying to kill him. That's not to say that I'd want him to give up that part of him that wants to help people, but his track record is 2-6: he's redeemed two people, with four of them trying to kill him.
To go with the DBZ comparison, he's kinda like Goku or Gohan - Gohan, in that he didn't really want to fight and Goku in that he has the ability to turn his enemies into friends (Krillin, Yamcha, Tien, Piccolo, Vegeta, Android 16, etc), BUT BUT when it was clear a villain didn't want to be friends, didn't want their help, and was determined to kill them and everyone on Earth, they got serious and kicked butt. I think that's Steven's weakest flaw right now in that he's too much of a 'let's sit around the hippie tree and hold hands' and not enough of the 'alright, let's kick his butt'.
I think a time skip should happen when we see a direct cause then we go forward to see the effect. Time skips are often not use well in anime because it's often use as lazy device to tell character development rather then to show it in a character arc and I rather see how Steven became stronger without coming out of nowhere and feeling like wasn't earned but when it's showing a critical plot point that will have have consequences and change the entires show then it would be a good idea to just skip ahead unless it's suppose to be really subtle and forgotten in memory.
