Also the reason why your defence drone exploded at 19:20 is because the enemy laser shot it down.
Yes, drones can be shot down if a projectile hits it.
I've seen that before. I also once accidentally shot down a missile that was about to destroy me.
Finally more FTL! This is one of the best series MATN does :D
Oh and here is a little tip to take care of automated ships : with level 2 teleporter you can send your crew and get them back before they die of suffocation. Be careful though, this will not work with Zoltans because of their lower health

Actually John, this ship can be used to fight drones, your boarding drone can be sent to destroy subsystems and eventually the enemy ship will just explode. It's slow and painful but it's totally feasible.
First time I had a teleporter, I sent everyone into an automated drone. Little to my knowledge, everyone suffocated and died quite tragically.
Well, there is one other ship you could have used.
The carnelian (Crystal B)
(SUPER SPOILER ALERT)
It begins with 3 crystals, 4-man teleporter and cloak when you, all it is missing are weapons (it has a weapons system but no weapons attached) and a drone system and you got a VERY good ship.

The basilik or the "Sorry Excuse Me" is also a good ship but there are better ones :)

I do enjoy the 4 room teleporter of the Mantis B (and also one of the hidden ships), but I've never tried it without weapons before.

I demand daily FTL videos. Don't even care if it is 30 raw uncut minutes of just you talking about the news (although I'd really rather you not). For some reason I love watching you play FTL.
Going the moral route with Engi occasionally causes them to give you stuff anyways out of goodwill, the reward being more significant than if you had accepted their surrender. So more of the usual risk/reward nonsense.
why didnt you repair the weapon room? its a free decoy room that theyll love to target and free repair xp
Florian Maslofski Fires in the room that damage the weapons systems will do hull damage, whereas if the system is already broken, it can't be burnt out like that. There are benefits to either choice.
but any toher rooms damage would be also hull damage, so it would be a great decoy

The Crystal ship is pretty good for this kind of run too.
FYI, it still would have been technically possible to use the boarding drone to take out the automated ship at 8:55. I agree it's best to avoid them though.
True, but as most automated ships are 3 separate rooms both with two or less systems, so it would take a while of letting it take out both those systems, then waiting for them to auto-heal so the drone can destroy them again.
Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but there's no way to aim a boarding drone, right? It just goes somewhere at random, I think, which I understand, because if you could just pick a room to put a hull breach into guaranteed, it might be too powerful just for that.
Many A True Nerd Everything you said there is correct. I agree it's pointless to get into battles with automated ships without weapons. I'm just the kind of person that feel like they need to incessantly correct everyone, even if it doesn't matter.
You can also do it with a maxed out teleporter (if you're fast) , or a cloning room (suicide tactics).
But both are risky and are probably not worth the effort.
FTL is a good game.

this would work if you could find a Zoltan shield bypass. Without that, completing the game is impossible.

16:50 you could have used that battle to keep letting them board your ship and level your guys attack up to max.
How do you come up with these challenges for yourself?
Is it purely from your own imagination or do you like read it somewhere online and go "I'm gonna do that."? :D I'm really curious and I love your gameplay, really fresh commentary in my view!

So.... How are you planning on dealing with the final boss' last phase?
It's just doable if you fully upgrade engines so you're depending on evade.
As for killing him, when a system breaks, the enemy suffers a point of hull damage. If you destroy the system, let the autopilot repair the system, then destroy it again, you can keep doing enough damage to kill him. That's the plan...
Many A True Nerd But... how would you get through the super shield that replenishes itself every time it goes through a power surge?
WideWings There's an upgrade for bypassing Zoltan super shields, so I pretty much have to find that in a shop...

What do you even need that boarding drone for?
Oh wait, there is a use of automated drones when you have anupgradet teleporter: You can deal some damage and teleport your crew back before they die. Then you can deal the last damage boint by a boarding drone.
