I give you a soft pass since you were a bit sick. Loved the Paddington ( Haha , Google can not spell this name properly either ... mind you it can not spell Haha either, insert philosophical point here ) Bear reference too. One of my childhood favorites. Fortunately H/weird did not manage to Snafu those movies completely.
Al Murray is playing his 'alter ego' - The Pub Landlord, a stereotype of the sort of character found in pubs, especially in the East End of London, who holds strong views with conviction - even if they are wrong, and will impart his 'knowledge' to all and sundry, whether they want to hear it or not! As others have mentioned, he is an extremely intelligent guy, with a History degree from Oxford, he was a History teacher before moving into comedy - and has made several documentaries relating to WW2. You will enjoy any of his work on here, trust me! 😊
If I am not mistaken Al Murray is half Austrian so he speaks German and has told many linguistic and musical based jokes about the German language. Might be worth a watch
I saw him live in Plymouth a few years ago. However, after hearing his comment about Plymouth….. I heartily agree 😁. And Cornwall being cornish for Cousin’s Wedding 😂😂😂
One thing I love about his style of humour is the level of intelligence behind it. He is a self confessed history fanatic. Cracks me up every time I watch him.
Even when I was a kid I thought it was slightly odd that Paddington bear didn't speak Spanish. ;-) Glad you enjoyed this one Megan, it's a really clever piece of observational comedy parodying some English people's attitudes to other countries. Hope you are feeling much better very soon anyway.
Megan - your laugh is infectious!! I'm English and Al Murray is just one of those comedians that will always make me laugh out loud. His comedy is based on history and just how knowledgeable he is on the subject.
I saw this show in Brighton, UK, fantastic ! Pint of Beer for the Gentlemen, Fruit-based drink for the Ladies... And as Al, The Pub Landlord says, Always, Bring Your Glasses Back To The Bar. Seriously ! The bar staff will love you !
Some points may be lost on you. Mongolia - Mongol was an un-PC term used for Down Syndrome years ago. Indian call centres (118 phone numbers) used to be mainly operated in Newcastle (Geordies) due to their friendly accents. Christmas Island - Wizard is a 70s glam rock band who had a massive hit with "I wish it could be Christmas everyday", re-released every year since. Galapagos - the native wildlife there helped Charles Darwin come up with his theory of evolution.
Hiya Megan. I've been subscribed to your channel for quite a while now, but I rarely get notifications. You're the first overseas reactor that has understood the 'Peru and Paddington bear' connection. Probably because your reaction is only a few days old, and Al did this years ago. Every other reactor didn't get it. But now the film's been made foreign reactors will get it. I'm English BTW. So glad this cheered you up. I watch many (mostly North American reactors) react to Al Murray. And I have to say, even when I'm feeling down, these reaction vids cheer me up, because even though I know the skits by heart, I love watching and laughing along with people who appreciate British humour...... Especially when they get how we take the piss out of the U.S. and France. But we don't mean anything bad about it. It's just how you'd say it's a term of endearment. Most people don't understand that about British humour. We literally take the piss out of ourselves and friends as a way of showing we like them. If people in our circles don't take the piss, it's like they don't like us. That's why comedians like Ricky Gervais are legends in the UK. And the Scottish/English thing is exactly that. Most respect each other. But there's always going to be hateful outlyers. Although (my colonial cousin lol) I think it's fine to point out that Trudeau is an A Hole 😂😂😂 And most Canadians would agree. He's ruining your great nation.... Ehhhh 😂
i watched a lot of reactions to this one, and youre the only one who got the westlife reference! and the bannockburn reference as well!! very rare indeed great stuff
hi megan, i think you reacted to this video, just at the right time, being here for the time you have, and happy to have you, its given you times to learn the british culture, humour through your videos and reactions, because of your time here, you were able to grasp at least 90 percent of the jokes and reffrences, as well as knowing what alis about, great job,
Surprised he didn’t say that they’d made a mistake with Australia. They should have left the convicts back in England and moved there themselves. Beautiful weather, plenty of room and all the mineral wealth untouched for exploitation. And no French next door.
Thanks Megan. Would you react to the animated Ricky Gervais show. Theres over 30 episodes, you could do an episode every week or so. Channels that have reacted to the series have attracted loads of new subscribers. Just a thought. 😁
It's funny how that works, the thing about laughing the hardest about the stuff that relates to you. I'm Danish and I always laugh the hardest when he makes the off-the-cuff remark about the Germans and the Danes not liking each other. Very much not the case anymore, but because he's a historian, he knows about WWII, Napoleon, the 30-Years War, The Hanseatic League, etc, and I think that's why he also laughed at that joke himself.
Are you better yet? I hope so. A good laugh gets rid of ill feeling. I just subscribed to you as i loved your reaction. I have probably watched people react to this nigh on a hundred times and your reaction was definitely up there!
The joke he tells about India and 118, is because many help lines that are accessed by 118118 - a replacement to The Yellow Pages (commercial telephone directory), where most telephone helplines are manned in India, with youngsters with degrees who obviously ofyen speak with an uninteligable Indian accent. English jobs - say Jordies, from the north east of England where some in this gig are apparently from - have gone out of The UK to India. As a tangent there is a nice piece in the film, 'The Best Marigold Hotel' where one of our British treasures, Judi Dench, plays a character who takes on training India call centre staff, as she is too bored in her retirement at The Best Marigold Hotel - a great film if you have not yet seen it, a drama, rom-com, chick flick.
Lovely megan loved the reaction. Hope you feel better soon. You said you were slow in realising the joke about Paddington bear. Most people who react don't get it at all. But you are better, much better than them❤❤
@@MeganRuth You should ... From memory, in the first episode the bar maid comes across as a strong female . And while he comes across as brash , in typical Brit style he seems to be making fun at his own expense half the time. ... hmmm, time to watch it again.
Hiya Megan, when you listen to Al Murray in real life he's really posh, I think he went to Oxford University, I've watched this vlog a few times and enjoy it everytime.
If you Google it you can see our late Queen Elizabeth doing a skit with Paddington Bear for charity. Megan. Al Murray is an incredibly clever man. Degrees from Oxford, history documentary filmmaker and can be found doing Shakespearean acting in London. An incredible man. Try the videos about who Britain has defeated.
Megan laughter is always the best cure , the perfect time to stay snuggled up in bed with a cuppa hot chocolate & comedy on youtube . This is what i'm doing as i too feel hellish . I'm gonna cheer myself up with some Carry On Movies , starting with Carry On Cleo (full movies available of yt) .
Found who you were talking about: Tyler Warwick, a New Zealander who mocks the Aussie accent in song form… of all the possible countries in the world with a laughable accent, it had to be a bloody kiwi doing this.
Please get well soon. You are needed. Songs in different accents is a very good tip. Regularly take a good dose of Australian humour. I'd definitely punch a shark. And sometimes, we're all filthy ;-)
If you want to hear actual songs by actual Australians, in actual Australian accents, I'd recommend Redgum's "I was only 19," and Frente's "Accidentally Kelly Street."
I had the opportunity to punch a rhinoceros at Chester Zoo, naturally I took it (my wife will vouch for the insanity), and let me tell you it was like punching concrete, the rhino didn't flinch. Fortunately at the age of twenty five my knuckles rapidly recovered; thanks for your concern.
Al is a highly respected historian and his knowledge of the Second World War is as good as it gets. But he’s very funny as his “ gammon” alter ego the pub landlord.
The way Britain got the GMT line was a concession by France (and the rest of the Europe) to give them that if everyone adopted the Metric system (which the French came up with). Britain took the bait (and only partly adopted the metric system).
That's an interesting claim - presumably you have some evidence of it that isn't just a fantasy? British naval charts used the Greenwich meridian for centuries and were almost universally used. Everyone used the same zero line, all that was ever agreed with france was that they would stop winging about it and stop using paris time (25 minutes from GMT if memory serves) because they were the only nation in the world NOT on GMT+X hours. No deal was ever done with ANYONE in which Britain promised to adopt SI, we have used SI since the 1940s for science and have taught it in schools since the 1960s. YOU ARE SIMPLY WRONG.
