o Galego e o português vieram da mesma língua o Galo-Português ou Português antigo, a Galicia era parte de portugal e hoje está na espanha, creio que esse sotaque espanhol seja por isso
O galego e o portugues son da rama linguistica chamase galaico-portugues. Era a lingua que falaban na corte española. Poide vese, por exemplo, na "As Cantigas de Santa María"
+Saller Raczmanikow Fazia parte do Reino da Galiza o Condado Portucalense (equivalente hoje a uma porção do Norte de Portugal), esse Condado obteve independência do Reino de Leão (que se tinha unido ao da Galiza) oficialmente a 5 de Outubro de 1143 (873 anos atrás). A Galiza NUNCA pertenceu a Portugal. O Reino de Leão entretanto uniu-se ao de Castela (posteriormente unindo-se ao de Aragão, formando depois Espanha). Devido à separação do Condado Portucalense, as línguas divergiram, sendo que o Português e o Galego são ambas línguas irmãs da família Galaico-Portuguesa (O Mirandês é da família Astur-Leonesa).
Consequentemente devido ao Regime Franquista em Espanha, as línguas Ibéricas faladas em Espanha que não fosse a Castelhana foram proibidas (incluindo o Galego, e, ironicamente Franco era Galego), quando se deu a democracia e regularização das línguas, algumas acabaram por ficar com uma fonologia castelhanizada (por vezes também devido ao uso forçado do Castelhano).

I am Galician and I speak Galician, I also speak Spanish and understand Portuguese.
Galician is not a mixture of Spanish and Portuguese, the truth is Galician and Portuguese were once the same language (Galician-Portuguese, until the 14th century or so), that's why they are similar, but they are not the same.
Galician-Portuguese evolved from Latin, just like other romance languages did, and it eventually diverged into the two languages we know today, let's say Galician and Portuguese are like 'siblings', but they are different and each of them has its own identity.
Portuguese became the official language of Portugal and Galician was spoken in Galicia which was integrated in the Crown of Castille. The crown of Castille oppressed Galician and it was even forbidden to write in it. Few centuries later, after Spain's Civil War (1939) the use Galician was also prohibited at school, culture and politics, and the Government made Spanish the only official language of Spain.
Galician people had to endure a lot to preserve our language and also fight a lot to regularize the use of it so please don't come here and just say it is a mix of Spanish and Portuguese when it definitely isn't.
The current situation of Galician is not good either because its use is decreasing specially among young people and in the cities but that's another story. Anyway, I hope this helped you all understand and please show a little more of respect towards my beautiful language, Galician. Thank you

Eu son galega e falo galego, castelán e tamén entendo portugués.
O galego non é unha mestura de castelán (español) e portugués, o certo é que no seu día galego e portugués foron a mesma lingua (galego-portugués, até o século XIV máis ou menos) por iso é que se parecen mais non son iguais.
O galego-portugués vén do latín, ó igual que o resto de linguas romances, e seguiu evolucionando ata se converter nas dúas linguas que hoxe coñecemos, o portugués e o galego, pódese dicir que son irmás pero repito, son diferentes e cada unha ten a súa propia identidade.
Mentres que o portugués se converteu na lingua de Portugal, Galicia quedou baixo o dominio da Coroa de Castela e o galego sufriu unha forte opresión chegando incluso a prohibirse o seu uso na escrita. Séculos despois, trala Guerra Civil (1939) o uso do galego tamén se prohibiu na escola, na cultura e na política, o goberno fixo do castelán a única lingua oficial do estado Español.
Os galegos tivemos que soportar moitos ataques á nosa lingua e loitar moito tamén por preservala e normalizar o seu uso así que por favor, non veñades a comentar que é unha mestura de portugués e español cando definitivamente non o é.
A situación actual do galego non é moi boa tampouco xa que o seu uso se está a perder sobre todo entre a xente nova e nas cidades pero iso xa é outra historia. Espero que isto vos aclarese un pouco o panorama e por favor mostrade un pouco máis de respecto por esta fermosa lingua que é o galego. Graciñas

É óbvio que os brasileiros (esses sim falam Português) estão no gozo. Os galegos, originalmente lusitanos (no início da colonização romana na Península Ibérica a Galécia, que nem existia na Lusitânia pré-Romana, estava integrada na Lusitânia), falavam Português medieval (dialeto latino romance ibero-ocidental) e ficaram a falar isso porque não quiseram integrar o Reino de Portugal, onde este dialeto evolui até se tornar independente do latim quase 200 anos após a criação do reino português. O que os galegos falam hoje é uma mistura de Português medieval e Castelhano, mistura essa impulsionada pelos espanhóis no século XIX-XX para afastar ainda mais a Galiza da sua nação (Portugal).

Tbh Brazilian Portuguese and continental Portuguese are only similar on paper. I can understand this guy in the video, Mexicans, Spanish and some south Americans before I can understand Brazilians and I'm Portuguese.

Não soa nada como espanhol. Essa é a coisa mais ignorante que já li. Basta por um brasileiro e qualquer falante de espanhol da América do Sul e os deixem falar naturalmente. Mas ao comparar com o português continental até possa fazer sentido pelo contraste. Mas quando há peruanos ou colombianos falando normalmente, na velocidade que falam entre eles, ou o sotaque em si, nada tem a ver com o português falado no Brasil. Assim como no Brasil há vários sotaques e dialetos. Como nordeste e sul etc

To me it sounds like a spaniard guy mixing portugese and spanish, it lacks of the portugese nasal sounds and it has the spanish RR sound. Also most of the words seem to have more portuguese likely roots

People here don't seem to grasp that it evolved alongside Portuguese and Spanish, so of course it sounds like Portuguese and Spanish. I speak both (English is my third language) and saying that Galician is a mix of one or the other is wrong; it's unique and fits right in between them, which makes total sense when you think about where it evolved.
It is in the middle of Spanish and Portuguese. To me it didn't sound unique as it sounds almost exactly the same as Castilian, but with some Portuguese words thrown in. I don't think I heard any words in there that I'd never heard before, or which signed unique to Galician.
Kevin Lopes Exactly, and I'd imagine that if you study the real situation "on the ground" (as you look at very local dialects) through areas considered Castilian to Galician to Portuguese, you'd find a similar continuum. Just as people look at a map and think people follow borders between countries, they often think only of the official form of a language and neglect the gradual shifts in speech.
Both Portuguese and Galician share a common ancestor Spanish lacks, that's the Galician-Portuguese language, it was the Galician-Portuguese language that evolved alongside the Spanish language. As Galician and Portuguese started diverging, Portuguese got features Galician didn't have, and vice-versa. Most similarities between Spanish and Galician I'd say are from common conservative features in both languages, Sprachbund, and rules imposed by the spanish.
Galician is indeed a mixture of Old Portuguese and Castilian (known by the political term "Spanish"). Galician-Portuguese was nothing but a LATIN DIALECT spoken all across the western flank of the Iberian Peninsula originating the Portuguese language in the Kingdom of Portugal by the end of the XIII century. Galician is Proto-Portuguese distorted by Castilian. Without the Castilian meddling in Galicia, the Galicians would nowadays be Portuguese citizens and would speak Portuguese instead of that fake language (Galician) that was forged by Castile to drive a wedge between Galiza and its nation - Portugal.

Galician is a fake language, with no distinctive individuality, created in the 19th century by Castile to drive a wedge between Galiza (with a -Z, as it is written in Portuguese) and its nation - Portugal. Galician is nothing but a mixture of Old Portuguese and Castilian. If it weren’t for the Castilian meddling, Galicia would be the northernmost province of Portugal and would speak Portuguese nowadays.

I'm Australian but I lived two fantastic years in Galicia (Pontevedra). This guy makes it very easy to understand, nothing like some of the older people I would hear in the street

Pra un galego , o brasileiro entendese perfectamente. O portugues cerrado do sur e mais complicado, ten sonidos diferentes.
Já pra mim, o português de Portugal ainda é um pouquinho mais compreensível que o galego. O que não significa que eu não possa entender o galego (algo em torno de 98%, salvo algumas pouquíssimas palavras exclusivas da língua). Mas não sei se isto tem a ver com o fato de eu contato com alguns amigos portugueses. De qualquer modo, são ambos os dialetos do galego-português completamente inteligíveis para mim, de modo prático.

É realmente uma sorte para você ter a oportunidade de aprender uma língua muito próxima da sua língua materna. Sou sul-coreano com língua coreana, mas não existe língua semelhante da mesma família, pois a minha língua materna é uma língua isolada.
I've studied Spanish and Portuguese, but I'm not a native speaker of either if them. without any learning of Galician, I could understand at least 90% of what he was saying. in fact, I can understand this better than I can understand Castilian lol
Galician is nigh the same language to European Portuguese. Both of them descend from Old Portuguese also known as Galician-Portuguese, spoken in the Middle Ages. Castillian, whilst close, comes from another branch of the language family.

1. Goodnight! His name. Birthplace . More specific place. His age. He works as a Navy man in the Spanish armada. His navy years. His family is really important. He really loves his country. They eat a lot. Dish names. His people are really great. The land is green. You see a lot of cows and pastors. He would spend all his time in Galicia.

C R, A Galiza nunca foi uma entidade política autónoma: começou por ser uma tribo lusitana antes de Roma, depois foi serva dos romanos, suevos, visigodos, asturianos, leoneses, portugueses, até que hoje é uma província castelhana. Como diz o italiano Salvi, maior especialista do facto nacional na Europa ocidental, a Galiza é uma "falsa nação" pois a nação a que pertence (Portugal) já criou o seu Estado há quase mil anos. Os galegos mais não são do que portugueses obrigados a ser espanhóis.

As a non-native speaker of Spanish, I was honestly amazed by how much of this I could understand, with very little effort. Some of his sentences sounded purely Spanish without any difference at all.

I'd never even heard of Galician until today, so that's awesome I stumbled across this! It seems a bit lisp-y, certainly more so than Spanish. Not sure about Portuguese, I can't remember how that sounds. I did understand a little bit of it, actually, so that was interesting.

Great language to learn for anyone who desires to converse with Spanish and Portuguese speakers.
As a non native Spanish speaker who is still learning and growing up with Latinos and even started learning and studying Portuguese for a period of time, I can honestly say I understood just off the sound alone about 80-90% of what he said. He spoke perfectly in my opinion. Very understandable. Awesome language. Love it.

galego era a mesma língua que português(disputadamente ainda é) até cerca de 1500, quando as línguas começaram a se dividir. a proximidade com a língua espanhola(tipo, galícia é na espanha, não em portugal, então eles têm mais mídia espanhola) e também, após o fernando franco, um ditador espanhol, proíbir toda língua que não era o espanhol, subsequentemente fez com que o espanhol fosse a única língua lá, isso fo iderrubado, mas muito mais influencia do espanhol foi adicionado lá. por isso, o galego soa mais como o espanhol mas as palavras têm mais cognatos em português. uma das maiores dificuldades pare entender o galego é a ausência do som de j, muitas vezes em galego se vê um som de x onde tem som de j em português(ajoelhar=axoelhar em galego). além disso alguns falantes de galego sofrem o que chamamos de yeísmo, que é a troca do som de lh pelo som de y(tipo como algumas pessoas pronunciam sandaia). isso é por influencia do espanhol, que em algumas regioes, similarmente passa pelo mesmo processo

Vós falais com tanta clareza para mim que não sei como podem alguns linguistas considerarem o galego uma língua separada do português.
E não são? Foi esse tipo de ideologia que levou à aceitação do acordo ortográfico cá em Portugal. As línguas evoluem e divergem consoante as necessidades dos seus falantes. Claro que são diferentes! Não há como negar, dizer o contrário, ou fazer acordos sobre isso.
Galego-português não é uma língua, é o dialeto latino "romance ibero-ocidental" ou "Português antigo" formado EM TODO O ocidente da Península Ibérica e que origina a língua Portuguesa em finais do século XIII no Reino de Portugal. Os galegos são portugueses castrados por Castela. Aquilo que hoje se conhece como "galego" é uma mera e feia mistura de Português antigo e Castelhano, sem qualquer individualidade, uma invenção de Castela do século XIX para afastar a Galiza ainda mais da sua nação (Portugal).
Ja fiz duas viagem para a Galicia. A primeira foi em Vigo e a segunda à La Coruña. Planejo uma terceira para Santiago de Campostela.. Em Brasília, meus amigos me chamavam de Galego, por ter a pele clara. Adoro essa terra e os Galegos. Luiz, obrigado por falar Galicio ( ou Galego?). Enfim, boa sorte, Marinheiro.

El español/castellano se parece bastante más al gallego que el catalán. Lo sé porque hablo ambos idiomas al haber vivido en Cataluña y en Galicia (yo soy castellanohablante nativo)

O português vem de um DIALETO LATINO que se forma em todo o ocidente da península Ibérica muito antes de se ter criado o Reino dos Suevos que os galegos dizem, arbitrariamente, ser o Reino da Galiza.
I know Portuguese and I am from Spanish descent. I can understand everything this guy says. It's even easier than Portuguese from some areaz of Portugal, where the accent is very strong. It sounds like a very smooth Portuguese with a Spanish accent.
It sounds like a hybrid of Portuguese and Spanish. within each sentence it just flows in between the two accents continuously but then I also hear sounds that neither Spanish or Portuguese have.
for example how he pronounces potatoes. the spelling of potatoes will be different as well. I also hear words starting with the sound of x.

I’m British and a novice to Spanish and Portuguese. But I can hear both languages. But the thing that you can hear more is the Spanish accent. Gallego is an interesting language, but shows the connection of both countries in the past.
