I really struggled last year to do the come follow me study. I got the Don’t Miss This study journal this year and it has been such a game changer for me! I fill out the journal as I’m listening to a segment of the podcast each night before I go to bed. I absolutely love it!!! The podcast is amazing too and I’ve already learned so much about the Book of Mormon. Thank you for providing such a wonderful and meaningful resource. ❤

Something that I thought of and wanted to share was during the Who's section, towards the end. The path of righteousness is not a leisurely walk through a meadow, but instead like the hike Angels Landing at Zion. Drop offs on either side of you and death so very near. Stay on the covenant path.

Yep…this life is like the gym, just because you go to the gym doesn’t mean you’re getting stronger…you’ve got to lift.
And to who we turn during trials determines who we will want to be with for eternity. If, during trials, we rely on ourselves or outside sources for comfort or illusions of security, that’s what we will ultimately choose. But if we endure hardship by turning to the Lord for comfort and understanding and succor, He will be the one we feel comfortable with; Christ will be the one we ultimately choose.

My favorite "O" is in v. 8 "O the wisdom of God, His mercy and grace!" I love how the two parts of that sentence are positioned, it can be read as a list: God's Wisdom, God's Mercy, God's Grace. OR it could be read to mean: God's wisdom IS mercy and grace. It is the perfect description of God's plan of salvation/redemption/happiness for all Their children.

In the 1828 Webster's Dictionary, the word "standard" has a number of definitions. I found this definition really interesting. "6. In ship-building, an inverted knee placed upon the deck instead of beneath it, with its vertical branch turned upward from that which lies horizontally." I didn't know what part of a ship was referred to as a "knee", so I searched and found this: "The rounded hulls of the great wooden ships of the 18th and 19th centuries were strengthened against the pounding seas by a series of braces fashioned from the naturally curved limbs-“knees”-of live oak trees (Quercus virginiana). Once live oak is seasoned it becomes as hard as iron, and the grain running with the curves makes it even stronger". What I came away with was that the Lord provides standards to protect us from the pounding seas of life.

I listened & watched this after coming from church. This reminded me so much of the youth's song I sang today. "Disciple of Christ" by Benjamin Josiah. Except we sang in spanish, I felt so much joy singing, the lyrics touched my heart, and I wanted to cry halway through. 😂 It's also very catchy.

David and Grace. I started listening to your videos this year as part of my re-investigation of the church. I ‘lost’ my faith a few years ago, but i've recently decided to start over and re-investigate the church. The first step I’m taking is reading the BofM and putting Moroni’s promise to the test.
One thing I struggle with is that I find many of the gospel teachings and teachings about Jesus to be very abstract. For example, in this video you talk about 'leaning on Jesus' and you say things like 'you can trust him'.
If I want to lean on Jesus, or trust in him, what do I actually do? Can you provide examples?

    • @aprilhanosek5005

Pray- talk to Him about your struggles and then sit quietly to listen and feel His answer. If you get a prompting or just a thought of something you should do, act on it right away. This will show your trust in Him and then He will give you more answers.

    • @jkaccounting
      @jkaccounting 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@aprilhanosek5005 That’s good advice, and I do use mediation and prayer daily. I act all the time on ideas or thoughts. Unfortunately, God has been silent when I need him most. For example, I struggled through a period of substance addiction a few years ago, and despite my pleadings heavens doors were closed. I was desperate for help; I was suffering like I never thought possible. Fortunately, I came through it, but consequently I pulled away for the church for a time. I’m back now and trying to understand it. I’m just really puzzled why God’s method of communication works for some and not for others.

@@jkaccounting I feel for you in you sincerity, trying to feel out who God is.❤I would consider asking God if there were ways He was there for you, that you haven't yet seen. That helped me once. Also, sometimes His love is shown to us through people who lift us up, even in little ways. But there could be many ways.

Leaning on Him or trusting Him looks differently to everyone. To me it can be done by praying and asking Him to show you His hand.(meaning-seeing Him in your life) Miracles are coincidences to some people but for those who are looking for Him, they are miracles from God. Everyone hears Him differently. Some people might have dreams, some people might hear a voice, but to me, it feels like a daydream or my own personal thought, but only later after the experience is over, do I recognize He was directing me. I try to pray and ask Him to show me His hand in my life. The more experiences I have where I look back and recognize that He was in fact helping me the more I am able to see His hand in the moment.
Ask Him to show you He is there and then wait. It may take days or weeks but continue to tell Him you are waiting. He will show you somehow. It is often through others. Someone might say the right thing or you’ll feel a feeling but you’ll know in your heart when it happens. Don’t explain it away. He loves you and wants you to seek Him. Much love!!

    • @jkaccounting
      @jkaccounting 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@@melissawhittaker8223 Thanks for sharing. Your description of how God speaks to us doesn't reconcile with the way the church describes the spirit. What your describing sounds a lot like what all humans experience. Like you said, some call it coincide and others call it a miracle, and others attributed it to the universe, but either way everyone has access to this type of inspiration. What does the communication from God for a baptized & confirmed member of the church look like? What sets it apart from the communication everyone gets?

The word you are looking for may be Entropy- What is entropy in simple terms?
broadly : the degree of disorder or uncertainty in a system. 2. a. : the degradation of the matter and energy in the universe to an ultimate state of inert uniformity. Entropy is the general trend of the universe toward death and disorder.

I had some observations about 2 Nephi 9.
2 Nephi 9:9 says, "And our spirits must have become like unto him, and
we become devils, angels to a devil, to be shut out from the presence
of our God, and to remain with the father of lies, in misery, like unto
himself; yea, to that being who beguiled our first parents, who transformeth
himself nigh unto an angel of light, and stirreth up the children of men
unto secret combinations of murder and all manner of secret works of
    darkness".
    Satan did not beguile Adam.
2 Nephi 9:18 says, "But, behold, the righteous, the saints of the Holy
One of Israel, they who have believed in the Holy One of Israel, they
who have endured the crosses of the world, and despised the shame of it,
they shall inherit the kingdom of God, which was prepared for them from
the foundation of the world, and their joy shall be full forever".
The word "kingdom" [18e] is linked to a discussion on Exaltation.
This seems to indicate that those in the terrestrial and the telestial
kingdoms are not saints because they don't achieve exaltation.

In Newtonian physics, it's the second law of Thermodynamics that speaks of what you were so eloquently trying to say David...it is called entropy.....everything in our Ahman's ( Heavenly Father's name in the Adamic language) cosmos must at some point begin to decay and cease it's existence in this science ..I don't know if the prophet-theologian Jacob was a pre-newtonian physicist, but he sure was a spiritual one because the words he used to transcend this law were ones we all know...Ahman's doyen...Jesus Christ... and The Resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ.... and IT restores and balances and brings everything back from that state of entropy...or as Jacob would say...from "death and hell"..yes...THE GREAT PLAN OF OUR ETERNAL GREAT GOD!!!!!!!

    2 Nephi 9:39
Remember, to be carnally minded is death and to be spiritually minded is live eternal.
    Romans 8: 6
For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually mined is life and peace.
These are strangely similar. Is Jacob borrowing from Romans? Roman's was written ~600 years after Jacob lived.
