@@ALKUKES if you look in my video there is large scratches on the external bore of the rotor, and pitting on the inner rotor. If you don’t have any of this then you’ll be fine. You can measure the bore of the housing and compare it to the external diameter of the rotor, it should have a clearance of around 0.07mm

Easy, but very expensive! But yes all new timing kit going on, everything will be new, the timing kit including chains, tensioners and guides is about £800!
@@BadE30 Yeah - not cheap, but totally worth it. The single-row (older M88) stuff is even more! I converted my M635 to dual-row - saved a few $$ and a bit more peace of mind.
Nice work. Your oil pump looked nasty. We've just stripped a Morris Marina GT engine (not exactly in the same league as an S38) and that had some nasty pitting and wear. New oil pump for us too.
This honing was to remove any scoring before measuring. Once honed clean, the bores were way out of spec, currently with a machinist who is reboring for custom over sized pistons
Nice work! Consider since you are in England to go to Vibration Free who balance assemblies as well as sell a much needed upgrade to the dampener. They call it the sterling dampener.... It's they own design, engineered in house. These long inline 6 BMW's need all the vibrational dampening they can get.
I didn’t know about this company, it’s local to me too. However I have taken my components to a race engine builder who has a great track record of dynamic balancing. I will look into this
@@BadE30 They are famous for their F1 and many other motorsports balancing. Most importantly is considering gettin rid of the OEM balancer. As mentioned they have theor own that is far superior. Good Luck

You be spending some good money on this engine im doing same thing, whats wrong with your oil pump?
Yes unfortunately so, but it will be worth it. The oil pump has damage from metal fragments, so it will not work as efficiently

Yeh not worth saving, too much of a risk! I don’t want to buy new though, found a good used one with pictures confirming condition

All the internal parts are available new from bmw! Unfortunately my housing was badly damaged so I have acquired a great condition second hand pump.

Thanks! Yeh very excited for it. They’re Moore and Wright from Machine DRO. Not cheap, but cheaper than the really good stuff!

They’re CP-Carrillo custom size and CR pistons from VAC Motorsports in the USA. Were around £1200 IIRC
