    Thank goodness. Now I know the purpose! I was wondering how to use them, and the folks at the dealership didn't know.

    Great "how to video" video explaining the purpose and use/operation of these regen paddles. So, the left paddle serves as a "brake" which also helps charge the battery and improve gas mileage?

    • @netman88

      Yes, that's correct.

    • @fettster279
      @fettster279 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Essentially, yes, but don't try to use it to brake quickly. Its a very slow, gradual slowing of speed.

    By using regen braking, does this reduce the gas needed to charge the battery?

    If you push left paddle one time with brake and accelerator just "floating", (going downhill) or coasting to a stop, does left paddle go off when you start to accelerate?? Thanks

      For the hybrid, the paddle goes off once you start accelerate. Sometimes, it feels like play a video game if you think about it.

      to transfer the kinetic energy back into energy to charge your battery and save your conventional brakes!

    • @jeffjo8732
      @jeffjo8732 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      It isn't to turn regen braking on. The car will always use regen when you press the brake pedal. The paddles are for when you don;t press either pedal.
      In a conventional car, if you take your foot off of the gas pedal but leave the car in gear, the momentum of the car will spin the engine and the car will slow down. Downshift, and you get more slowing. But all the energy is wasted.
      The paddles simulate this effect with regen braking, so you regain the energy instead of wasting it. It is always "on", but at the equivalent of a high gear. The paddles simply simulate downshifting.

  • @Thesaviorsway
    @Thesaviorsway 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Can you keep the paddles on 3rd Regen all the time. So everytime you brake it regenerates battery

    • @netman88
      @netman88  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure all the time.

    • @shmot3392

      My understanding is that when you use the brake the regenerative braking is always the same. But the regen paddles change the amount of regenerative charging while gliding (accelerator and brake pedals are not being used). It is similar to downshifting a manual transmission. Going to a lower gear with a manual revs the engine more causing more deceleration. The higher level regen used, the more electricity is being sent to charge the battery. The regen level automatically goes back to the default when you accelerate or actively brake. The exception is with Sports mode, it retains the regen (or "gear") level for a sportier feel. Every time you brake, it does regenerate the battery regardless of how you use the paddles.

    Does one click on the left shifter equal two arrow notches on the display?

    • @netman88
      @netman88  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, one click will show 2 down arrows. 2 clicks will show 4 total down arrows. 3 clicks will show 6 down arrows.

    • @jeffjo8732
      @jeffjo8732 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      No. The "default" level is one chevron (arrow notch), but in the default mode it isn't shown in the display. Click it once, and you increase from one to two and it gets shown. Click it again, and you get three. Click the right paddle twice, and it decreases to one and shows it.

    Are the paddles used in sport mode to manually shift?

    • @netman88
      @netman88  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nope. On the hybrid, it’s used for brake regeneration. The energy captured goes back to the hybrid battery.

    Will it wear off the break pads faster? Or does it use the emotor-brake (similar to an engine break)?

    • @netman88

      Regen isn’t in the brakes. It’s more like engine braking an electric motor to regen.

    So regen can’t just stick on all the time like a Tesla with one pedal driving would??? Just got my 2023 accord not a huge deal that this doesn’t work like I thought. Still a lot better than my KIA Optima hybrid and not knowing where my max regen braking is and where my real brakes begin. This feature alone probably saves so many people brakes.

    • @netman88
