- The Lord of the Rings films ends with Frodo sailing off into the West with Sam returning to the Shire to his love Rosie. Sam and Rosie had 13 children together and at the grand age of 102, Sam also sailed West to see Frodo again. For the Elves, their time on Middle Earth had passed, and the vast majority of them left soon after. For the Ents, they never found the Ent wives, slowly turning into trees over the long centuries. The Dwafs prospered, but slowly faded into legend as they dug ever deeper into their mountains. Aragorn ruled as a wise and fair king, with his descendants ruling for a hundred generations, with his kingdom protecting human and hobbit alike.

Is built on itself, Warsaw has vast canals, Crocow a maze of commected basements, I remembered one city built on caves but can't recall it now. All of that (maybe except of caves) unmapped and unknown. I remember there was this story about a cinema (with like electricity lines etc.) in a place in that city built upon itself, but authorities found it, and next day when they came to clean it up, there was no trace of it probably moved elsewhere. (It is dangerous and not advised and often illegal/not allowed to enter those places).

The three hobbits liberated the shire and replanted the felled trees. Sam sprinkled some of Lothloriens soil on every new tree and they grew stronger and more beautiful. In place of the old Party tree he planted the Mallon seed, which also grew into a great tree.
Also, Sam was elected Mayor of Hobbiton seven times consecutively!

@@iamtheonewhoknox not in a book just notes complied by Christopher Tolkien that his dad wrote down about what happened afterwards. They left the Shire for adventure visiting places and people like Gimli and Legalos and fighting some. They eventually made it back over to Aragorn and chilled/fought alongside him for decades. They died first and Aragorn and Arwen buried them in the tomb of kings where Gondor rulers lie. When Aragorn died they or he wanted to be buried alongside them. Aragorn basically ruled over all Middle Earth as he was High King. Rohan was a vessel state that ruled themselves had there own king, but Aragorn was still top dog.

Aragorn's final words to her suggest there is an afterlife awaiting them both. So it's a sad end, but there's still hope.

When Arwen binds herself to Aragorn, she shares his fate as well. She will die after he dies, and her spirit will travel onward instead of being returned to the world of the living. It's one of the reasons Elrond is reluctant to let her marry Aragorn: marrying a mortal man doesn't just mean that she will die. It means she will be separated from her family until the end of the world.

After Rosie had died is when Sam wise sailed into the West because he had been a "Ring Barer. Also at that time Legols and Gimili sailed with him. Gimili had been allowed to sail to the West because of being a member of the company as well for his deep love Gilgallon.
With gimli being the only dwarf ever to be allowed to the west

It is important to note that Tolkein did plan on a sequel to LoTR, but he only wrote about 12 pages. It was supposed to reference the fact that the hearts of Men forget in times of peace and plenty.

Lord of the rings ending was always so sad. Cause the elfs all leave to the west (heaven) the dwarfs just disapear into the mountains and the aragorn lived as the last of the generation from magic. It always broke my heart that eventually all magic disapates in this world

@@makepr That's because the entire LOTR world is written like a mythology: stories of magical earlier times and great cosmic events which resulted in today's (I guess, less than magical) reality.
And, crucially - at some point Sumeria, Egypt and Babylon rise, as Tolkien conceived of LOTR as the lost ancient history of our world. This does add a rather poignant note to the ending, as eventually we know Gondor does fall, and is forgotten, as are the elves, dwarves and hobbits (at least until Tolkien translates the Red Book of Westmarch around 1932).
Yeah I’m pretty sure in the Silmarillion it says something about how humans were meant to be the remaining ones and it always made me wonder if they got to evolve how we did. No magic, no monsters, just humans getting smarter and making technology etc

It's possible they met again. But they would both be very old. Frodo and Sam (and Bilbo and Gimli, for that matter) were mortal, and would eventually die, even in Valinor.
Elves only seem eternal, but are not. They will live as long as the earth exists, which will not be forever. But it will be a l-o-o-o-n-g time.

Wont be possible. There is a posibility to see the movies in the 40 s or 50 s of this century , couse that s when the copyright of Tolkien is gonna end. But if his son will be considered as an editor for one of the books, the copyright of the Tolkien family will continue 70 more years after 2043 i think. So the generations before 2000 are doomed into possible not seeing this legendary story screened ever in our lifetime

I used to play the Lotr Wii game. A part of it takes place after Lotr. Sam is mayor and you play as his son Frodo. They are preparing a party bc Aragorn visits and you gotta do quests. And you also play parts of the actual story when Sam reads segments from the book Frodo wrote to his kids.

This constant decay is what bugs me the most about the lotr world.
The magic disappears.
its a key theme for tolkien. he had a pretty shitty depressing childhood and it translated in his worldbuilding. not always happy endings or good can be promised. it’s realistic :/
Main comments and below I get. I would like to add the thought- that Tolkien may very well have felt he lived in his own post LOTR world. The dragons of lore had been slain, the generations had such length that the heroic blood of epic warriors was too thin. But the world also balances out with equal powers if they choose muster themselves.
Something not mentioned in the video is that Tolkien did start to write another dark uprising, I think of followers of Sauron a very lesser but formidable version of the dark riders. That descendants of Aragorn and Rohan dwellers fight off. But the telling wasn't as exciting or epic in scale as LOTR, so he never finished the full narrative.
It does beg the question though, if everything was going happen like this- the dwarves delving and elves and magic more or less leaving, what was the point? I would like to suggest that the point doesn't change. Would you rather the time left be spent in dark shadow of Sauron or in the bright feilds of Rohan or the Shire? Would you prefer that evil thrive because it doesn't have long reign anyway(over select races) or preserve and savor goodness you helped preserve? Everything passes, I think, is a grand point of LOTR in the respect you brought up. I also think that another grand point of it is that because everything passes- things can be changed and fought against, too good or doom.
Everything changes tho. Its natural decay of time like Elrond said. Everything passes in ages. Alot of the stuff from the Simarillion passed after the second age. The good news is, most of these ppl found peace
To add to this: Merry and Pippin became leaders of their houses. They developed many good relations with humans and the remaining elves and did much research into the bloodlines of hobbits and their rolls, however small, in important events in middle earth. The museums and libraries they added to had countless lore researched by the two themselves, adding to later editions of the Red Book of Westmarch. Eventually Merry died as the leader of his line of old age, while Pippin eventually returned to Minas Tirith and was counted as chronicler and advisor for Aragorn until his death.
Everyone went to the gray havens then sailed west. Sam became mayor of the Shire for like 30 years then afterwards followed Frodo there.
What bugs me the most is the dwarves. I understand their greed after the rings of power caused them to isolate and dig deeper and deeper made them essentially vanish but they obviously still existed in massive numbers and continues reproducing/growing. I wish Tolkien would’ve had them come out of their caverns and blend back into middle earth after the one ring was destroyed.
It was Tolkien's intent, at least for a time, that his tales of Middle Earth be folklore representing prehistoric Europe of our actual world (Arda). This idea underlied his rejection that Tom Bombadil was the physical manifestation of Iluvatar, that Jesus was the only incarnation of the creator in this world. So, to this end, it makes sense that ME would start to resemble our actual world where Dwarves don't exist (to our knowledge).

Being a maia some kind of high spirit, that is deeply and conciously connected to Eru Ilúvatar, but which power is limited somehow by his spirit being incarnated in a human body, and so they can die (like the istari). And also, Jesús himself told that he speak to some kind of father which was none other than Eru.
So its wrong to say jesus was Eru, because Eru is Fatherless. He's the prime source of creation. And everything came from him.
But we can say that Jesus, as Gandalf, where manifestations of Eru. Messengers sent by him (Messiah's or Angels incarnated) to speak in his name and guide his other childs through the music of his creation.
Anyways, there are other points that prove what I'm saying. And those are that Jesus was not the only one of his kind. Even if the religions wants you to believe it, even if he was one of the most famous, there where more like him, and there will be. Humanity was always guided by beings that already experienced this experience you and I are experiencing and uppon the end, upoon arriving to the peak of his existence as humans, rather than transcend, they decided to stay here, to guide the next Humans, moved by his uncondicional love for every being involved on the music of the creation. And so they gain the rank of maia (As glorfindel did).
The thing is, that these beings allready had their story. So now is our time, now we are the protagonists, and they do their job well enough if you never know about them, because as I said, they dont do it for fame or glory, they do it for love.
So that being said, and without the intention of diminishing Jesus's prowesess, there are beings still with higher knowledge than him or with more success in his task than him. And I think that, because of the fact that they did their job without getting noticed. Something truly amazing if I may say.

Mine nevertheles, is different. And is based on the belief about an understanding of god being some kind of source of creation, a counciousness that englobes all the creation itself and that is fragmented on many levels, one of them being the valar, then the maiar, the istari and all the beings of the creation. So in that belief, you and I are portions of that source. Its just that we are playing different parts of that creation, everyone with our different perspective of itself, but at the same time, an image of itself.
The World of Tolkien has many types of readings. And yes, it was foremost based on the teachings you mention. But also can be understanded that way. As if the elves, humans and every different aspect of the creation, were the same Ainur that decided to play his particular rol in the Story. Deciding to momently forget his own origin to experience it to the fullest, something like the perfect actor that plays a rol. And being the istari, the ones who didnt forget and sometimes earned the knowledge needed to Remember (like glorfindel) due to his epic actions that granted them the returning to the middle earth directly from that place so close to the Source (Valinor), without the full restriction that meant the incarnation through other ways, just so they can guide the same music of creation without being the protagonists of that story that still today keeps going on.
So yes, in that belief, Jesús was an image of that god, but also you and I, everyone in a different stage of conciousness. Something like a father and a child, who grows and learns not only about the world he lives on, but also about his own story and his own self, growing to develope what he potentialy was on another level in that world so far away from there. A story about the very bringing of that heaven light, to dark place. A story about reuniting the things once separated. A journey about leaving home, defeating of the shadow and coming back with new knowledge and understanding. The simile of the journey of frodo and Sam, who the same tolkien described as the smallest beings of the middle earth who made the biggest impact and even inspired gandalf itself.
This very teaching, show us that theres greatness on the small things, and hollowness on the big (like morgoth or sauron), and that even both of these sides of the coin, are playing the same music guided by the same source of conciousness called Ilúvatar, even without knowing.
To me, that has all the coherence in the World, but I respect you feel it on a different way.
Think about the Balrog. What would they possibly encountered by digging deeper? Maybe the dwarves didn't disappear at all, but chose to isolate themselves for a reason known to them. Maybe a great Balrog like cataclysm killed them all. I don't think they dug because they were too greedy. Dwarves are crafters, so they need materials. It's in their blood, Aulë made them to be artisans. The dwarves couldn't live with themselves if they didn't honor Aulë by making things.
Mary and Pippin were buried with the kings of Gondor im pretty sure.

Also that Cidran The Shipwright was waiting for Sam to come, because Sam too was a ring bearer, even if it was very brief. Hence, he has to go to the Gray Havens.
Also, at the end of his life. King Eomer of Rohan wished to see the squire of Rohan once again, so Merry and Pippin travelled to Rohan. Afterwards, they moved to Gondor where they died and were buried. Aragorn finally grew old later and was buried alongside his friends. His son Aragorn 2 became the new king. Queen Arwen stayed there for sometimes after Aragon died and probably left middle earth later.
Arwen died of a broken heart and was buried in Lorien ^^ She was 2,000+ years old.
Eldarion Telcontar was the name of Aragorn's son.

Saruman does'nt die falling from his tower in the books. Instead he goes to hobbiton with wormtoung and what's left of his orcs after the ents destroyed Isengaard. There he destroyed hobbiton and enslaved the hobbits. When Frodo returned the returning hobbits freed Hobbiton. Frodo tells Wormtounge that he does'nt have to follow Saruman anymore. Saruman lashes out at wormtounge be cause he's considering what Frodo said, which leads to wormtoung stabbing Saruman in the back and he dies.

Dwarves don't fade away,they still live underground in huge numbers but have less contact with outside worlds
Well Arwen gave up her life a year after Aragorn passed. She died on Cerin Amroth, right outside of Lothlorien, the place where they first met.

Nah the dwarfs regained all their old kingdoms and nvr faded, the elves mostly gone still held lasting presence in one kingdom, Gondor entered in new age with Numenorian bloodline restored with Aragon and left over Rangers. The ents with forest safe again prospered and continued watching over forest remain as pure ents and slowly repopulated with what few wifes left. Yes ik this isn't canon but rather have this than the generic boring ending where all cool creatures and races disappearing.

I watch all my LOTR movies but I never watch the ending again again after seeing it once. Once was sad enough for me. I like to always imagine the LOTR ending with everyone all off on another adventure together living happily ever after.

Well isn’t this just the saddest ending to any trilogy ever. But still happy/joyful in a way as they don’t have to deal with anything evil ever again. I deeply wish our world was much more like this one.
