Don't know about foreshadowing. It's more that 3 squares/cubes is the actual BBC logo. They tried something similar back in the day for BBC Schools with an ident made up of three squares.

Yeah, BBC Three was delayed. Didn't those cube idents launch at the same time as BBC Four? They were actually originally intended to be BBC Three's idents.

I’m afraid not, but I think what they did for that ident was just use an instrumental segment from the song. Near the start of the radio edit, I believe.
Here’s my opinion on these idents: 1998-2000: Really nice to look at. We get hearts, punches, fans and mice. All in a form of 3. Technically, the 3 hearts could also symbolise the 3 blocks of the bbc and the fact it’s (technically) the 3rd channel. 2000-2001: …what. Just a heart with a few flashy effects atop a mono colour background?! Lazy…also really creepy if you think about it. 2001-2002: Alright. This is a little better! Reminds me of both that one CBBC ident that appeared a few years ago with that huge rebrand, along with BBC III’s hand idents. Interesting, but not that much. 2002-2003: pretty lazy, but not as bad as the 2000 ident. It technically also announces that it’s gonna turn into BBC 3, which is kinda sad, but it kinda really just sucks. Atleast is isn’t a singular heart with a few lazy beats and effects. Well. Pretty weird Also this is another good video that I responded to way too late. Keep up some of the good work.
the 2000 idents certainly feel like a cutting-edge Macromedia Flash graphic on a website. as much as I enjoy them for that, I must agree they're simply not on the level for a BBC ident...
