Lancaster City PA Third Alarm Fire March 5th, 2017

Lancaster City firefighters were dispatched this afternoon around 4:50PM to a reported house fire on South Shippen Street on the east side of the city. The initial address was on the other side of the city from the actual fire location, and sharp Lancaster County Communications operators gave responding companies the cell phone callers location as being on the 500 block of South Prince Street. Companies redirected to the new address and found an attached rowhome with heavy black smoke pouring from the front and rear of the structures. As the first due engine stretched a line, Lancaster police officers made sure the exposures were clear. While waiting for water, the first floor erupted in flames and crews went right in and knocked out the fire as additional companies stretched back-up lines and the truck company searched the building. Initial reports were that there may have been trapped occupants, a complete search found none. The fire was held to the home of origin. Lancaster Bureau of Fire has a well earned reputation as a fast department that stretches quickly and aggressively

This is a great example of a ventilation limited fire! The thick black smoke exiting under pressure is a warning sign that the room is going to flash over. Great training video.

Break those front windows out completely fog that room to cool the gasses and prevent a flashover. No, the steam created won't injure anyone in that room, not only because they would be dead already but the gasses including water vapor would continue to go out the windows. When the firefighters were ready to go inside, the interior would be much more survivable.
1:15 As you can see, they did NOTHING to prevent this from happening. You don't need to be fully dressed or have hydrant water flowing to apply tank water from outside. That was pathetic.

This a great example of Police getting in the way. Notice squad car blocking road. Also first due engine stopped at corner waiting for Ladder company to have front of building which was a great tactical decision.

As usual, freaking Cop car pulls up and blocks the entire front of building. As a retired FF have seen this all to many times. By leaving that car there prevents positioning of incoming rigs. They endanger themselves by going into buildings untrained with no protective gear then if they get lost hampers the firefighting effort because they have to use manpower to rescue them instead of conducting primary search and interor attack

Typical dopey cops. Lets park right in front of a fire bldg even though their is a parking spot next to them, so the FFs cannot setup their rigs. No pressure, fog tip crap nozzle.
