    How many black people are killed by police each year in Canada you ask?
    Between 2000 and 2017 there were 460 fatal incidents and this number includes justified, as well as unjustified police killings. 71% (326) were white, 15% (69) Indigenous, and 9% (41) were black. That’s 41 black people over 17 years, or 2.42 black people per year and remember some of these deaths were justified. From this we are supposed to believe that our police force is riddled with systemic racism? From this we are supposed to just do away with the police? Over 2.42 people per year? Do these people know what systemic means?

    • @thereforeayam
      @thereforeayam 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      So one black per 7.8 whites, one Indigenous per 4.4 whites were shot by police. According to (2016) census, Toronto is 68% white. That means one black was shot by police when 8 white people were shot by police in a city where it is close to 50-50 that any given person is white at all. The impression given is that Toronto is nearly 100% white, while really Toronto is barely half white. Not sure where this is going, it just seems imprudent in general--not very honest impressions given either way.

  • @bbrown5887
    @bbrown5887 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    If they do this at least have some baseline measurement for return on investment accountability to ensure the money is actually fixing something. For years governments have been cutting services and especially so with mental health institutions due to special interest groups lobbying for their closure. They were far from perfect places but it was a place to guarantee housing, shelter and most importantly proper medication and care. Now the streets are littered with an unfortunate number of mentally ill and violent people with the responsibility to deal with them dumped on police and the amount of resources dedicated to this one issue alone is staggering. Pile that on top of polician pandering, targeting innocent lawful gun owners and completely ignoring the primary source and cause of the majority of homicides. This will never be anything more than political window dressing and very tragic given the majority of victims come from the same communities as many of the offenders they are completely ignoring. Even Chief Saunders was unable to deal with the political hypocrisy anymore. The problem is difficult, dynamic, sometimes cultural, but never fixable by enforcement or policing action alone. The removal of the criminal from society at minimum, does ensure that person cannot victimize innocent citizens while they are incarcerated.

    • @Harry-qh5rt
      @Harry-qh5rt 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sadly, we have judges blind to the issues at the street level, undoing all the hard work the police put in to get justice for victims. I agree with your assessment of too many burdens being placed on the police. What I don't understand, in this sea of lefties, is why they defunded mental health services. I would have thought the lefties would be first in line to get people the help they need. Too many dollars for solar panels and wind farms I guess. Metal health was not fashionable enough.

    Proper police training is needed. My experience is, the cops think they can do what ever they want. I had one steal from me, for example.They abuse their power and act like laws don't apply to them. They are there to protect the public, even those they arrest. Teach them that and teach them to deescalate situations, not create them. Like the woman in the park with her child on a swing, use discretion in every situation. Just like a judge can use full punishment or minimal punishment. All situations can be handled differently.

    I dont think this is a really good solution at all. Yes its good that more resources are going to social services programs. But not every singe 911 one is a mental health crisis. I think that there should be a law to make these bystanders punish for calling the police to provoke violent situations. They need to be punished for that. also what about no non violent offenders. The problem is in the hiring, training and accountability. These officers need to be educated in topics such as race relations, work from an antioppression policy and hacve character tratis such as patience, self control, compassion, right judgement. And they need to be prosecuted for their crimes. This isnt enough to change the abusive culture of policing.

    Well, we do need police but at any given time there is a large number of cops on lengthy holidays, leave of absence, reduced duties and so. They play the system because there is no accountability. In the past year I have reported crime twice and they basically laughed at me that I expected them to do anything! So as you would expect I am not a big fan of them. I am sure they could trim by 10% and we would not see a difference other than Mike McCormack bitching.
