Paul, one thing that comes across in your videos is that you are an ethical guy congratulations on being in broadcasting for 38 years and you certainly radiate fairness and truth (I wish all broadcasters particularly those on 24 hour news services did the same) I see Terry’s side is trying to do is best and sounds like he may have been overwhelmed. Thanks for sharing Bob and your wisdom on model-A's I think you should go through with the original plan on your blocks, It would be more beneficial than ever and even potentially help Terry's business.

Hi Model T, I have watched the video of question and I didn't feel Paul was being malicious or mean in any way. I suppose a person might take it that way, but I think a person would have to be more sensitive than me, of course I am an old farmer, maybe I am used to the cows fusing at me! Anyway, he answered a lot of good questions and answers. Hang in there Paul, I and lots of other folks out here are behind you. Good one Model T, always love watching your Q & A's, thanks and have a wonderful day and week.

Sorry you guys had to endure a poop storm over the Burtz engines! I have really enjoyed the videos from both of you! A friend I met years ago in the Austin chapter MAFCA club passed away and left his model A to me, so I'll have a Model A again for the first time in 40 years. It should be arriving here in SLC by late March or early April 2024. I'm excited to have a Model A again, but doubt it'll be a daily driver as my last one was between 1976 and 1981. Your wonderful videos have taught me a lot about changes that have taken place in the restoration process over the last 40 years, new products etc. I'd love to see videos on the Burtz engine assembly, but certainly understand if you want to be done with that. All the best to you both!

Hi, thank you so much for joining us and congratulations on your “new” Model A, although I’m sorry to hear that your friend passed 😢💕 that was so wonderful that he left it in your good hands 💗
Yes, the Burtz issue is very ugly, we will never have anything to do with his products again…a simple product review had lawyers paperwork mailed to us threatening to sue unless all videos were removed immediately. So much for free speech. Paul was on his side, even did a video promoting his engine in Texas, oh well, after all of the nasty calls, emails and drama he’s caused for Paul, we have moved on to better things.
One thing to think about if you do go with Burtz is all parts that he sells only fits his engines, you can’t put correct era parts on his engines, so if you don’t mind that, I wish you the very best absolutely 💕

Paul - I had watched the video that you had posted before it was taken down. I thought it was both informative and fair. I am a electrical engineer and can appreciate the difference between operational and reliable. While it is entirely possible that the block assemblies you received might have "run" as is, this should not be the deciding factor on whether the blocks are "good". If you are going to plop down the better part of 10K to get the block, assemble the engine and put it in the car then as you say it is a good idea to make sure that it is as good as it can be. I am sorry you have taken the undeserved flak from the peanut gallery. Keep up the great videos.

I have no issues of the way you did your video or what you said about the block, honesty is all I want to hear and I appreciate hearing it.
It sounds like the people the make and sell the new block handled the whole thing very very poorly.
Communication is the key to solving a problem and they blow you off and one could say that your video at your machine shop guy could say that showing the issues with that block was going to show poorly and I have to admit I was not impressed but if I was going to buy one ( and I will one day ) it was good to know what I can expect.

I have several old model a blocks in storage. I offered one to a guy that needed a block on the restorer want adds. When he called he said he just bought one of the new blocks and installed it in the car. I wonder now if it is still working?
My thing is that all things mechanical are going to have some problems on new casting or new builds. I have had similar things with a block rebuilt that bearings were trashed from trash in the block. I cleaned all blocks from machine shops after that one, 40 years ago.
The only real way to sell a new/rebuilt engine is to run it on a test stand. Do the compression tests and check for trash and wear. I did this on every motor I worked on and there were still some problems. The only thing is they would be tens of thousands of dollars today. Most of the buyers out there do not understand this, like your shirt says they want a warranty for life, not "I am the warranty".
Final, keep your wits and don't let them bully you. Some of us watch you to get better and learn. I for one would like to know how "you" fix this motor and move on. At this point, I think it is important to see this motor job to finish state and running. But again what do I know?
Henry Ford had these same problems with blocks and they still have them to this day. Sorry for being so long but I stopped working on peoples cars because of the things you are dealing with. I only work on my stuff and enjoy the day. Speaking of which out to the shop.....

At one point I was a Mechanic for a large cemetery. We rebuild about 80 small engines a year. So we'd order parts in quantity, I was rebuilding a Wisconsin Industrial engine and couldn't get the crank to go in. After a few hours I found that the timing gears on the crankshafts we all (all 100 cranks) had the timing gears pressed on backwards. Insted of returning the crate of cranks, my supervisor had me fix the error. Shit happens. Fix it and move on.

Hey gang , my Dad always used the term coach to refer to a Tudor , early Ford or Chevy . By early , I mean pre -war . It's amazing the memories that come flooding back even after 45 years of not giving them a second thought. Coach was used to describe a two door G.M. car while Tudor was used by FoMoCo . Somewhere along the way things got blurred and we're interchanged , I blame the used car salesmen . FYI , in 1939 Illinois Dad bought a '29 A touring for $15, and a '29 A Tudor for $25 , both running good driving cars .

As I mentioned in the comments to Paul’s video from last week, Paul did the right thing. You should always double check your work and that of others on something as ticklish as an engine. And if you’re that other person whose work is being checked, you need to have a good attitude about it. Don’t think that the other person is out to get you, that’s just childish. In this case the manufacturer should be using this as a learning experience and fine tuning their QC, if they even have one. I’m sure if Burtz could find a place in the US that could cast and machine his blocks for a price that was affordable, he would. Even then there’s no guarantee that it would have been any better than something from China. It’s the reality we’re in.
I certainly hope that Paul puts together a video of the Burtz build. I’d like to see the process. Even though these are low RPM engines, things have to be right. Let this whole thing blow over first.

It might be a good idea on the new block is to run in through some heat cycles by baking it. It is said that relieves any stresses in the block. Does it? I don't know but some people swear by it. Do it and then recheck clearances. Anyway it can be fixed and remember it would make no sense for the retailer to knowingly sell bad parts because that would be the end of their business and Burtz seems to me to be an upfront guy and a hobby guy. A coach is a 2 door sedan.

Thank you for your message, Paul has been “for” Terry Burtz and his engine kits, it’s the quality control issue he’s having in China that’s all…Burtz has a great thing going and we are hoping that the issue will get resolved, maybe they could have the engines sent to themselves, check them first, make any adjustments that might need to be made then send it to the buyer? We are hoping for the best. I think Paul is done, we’ll see what happens with a little time.

    • @Modeltshinn
      @Modeltshinn  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hi Martin, yes, he will continue making them…we don’t believe all of them have issues, we just know a lot in our own Model A community. Hopefully things will get worked out, it hasn’t been very long yet and kinks hopefully will work themselves out, quality control is the issue, when you have something made across the world and then it gets shipped straight to the buyer, you never know what your buyer will receive. It’s too bad we don’t have anyone making them here in the US, that would be super awesome!

The realities of the highway are something with which every motorcyclist and bicycle rider must contend. Traveling on the bulk of available roadways, a well sorted Model A is not as out of step with other traffic as many might expect. I’ve traveled coast to coast and throughout Europe by motorcycle, and now put 5 to 6 hundred miles per week on my A Roadster. This owes to it being my only driver beyond my work van. The same care and situational awareness is employed as when riding on two wheels. Utilizing the many motorcycle defensive driving techniques, I do have a lower sense of vulnerability when driving the Model A.

I had a conversation with a motorcycle cop during a July 4 parade we were both in. I asked him how law enforcement looks at my '31 A without dual taillights, split bumpers, no side view mirrors etc. He replied; "You have every right to be on the road with that car as it was sold in 1931." I greatly appreciated that answer and now drive with confidence.
