I’ve been watching your videos for a few days, and suddenly I felt the need to buy a watch and my budget is around 250 euros: at the beginning I wasn’t convinced by the design of Seiko, Citizen for that amount of money. I am not a snob person, so I was looking for smth attractive, while reliable and then I came across this video! A smile is still on my face, writing down this comment, because I am in love with the Seagull 1963, what a beautiful piece of machinery .. Thank you for that feeling, of a happy excited kid, while being 32 y.o.
I own the Seagull and I concur with your thoughts. The accuracy, chronograph and sapphire crystal is what really surprised me at that price point. I chose the sapphire because I would have scratched the acrylic up badly and often, but the acrylic is in keeping with it's vintage looks. Upgrading the NATO on this is a must. Now onto a nice diver. Looking back at The Urban Gentry archives for some suggestions. Maybe a dress watch/diver, Ha! Thank you TGV.
the sapphire one isn't as good. it adds a bezel. the plexi glass version is much more true to the 1963 original and when it gets scuffed up it's beautiful vintage
I "watched" the review for the seagull on long island channel, and mark said leave your comments below, but the comments were turned off! You have great video content, well spoken, edited, sound volume and lighting! I look forward to your next watch review, and thank you for leaving the comments open!
@@ErikS- he was being ironic and Nike is made by 10 year old Chinese kids in sweatshops in China as well as Muslims in concentration camps. So even if it’s built in the USA it’s Japanese owner which is enough for a racist to shun it.

I've just ordered myself a Sinn 103 Ti TESTAF. I can't wait to get my hands on it! Another thing to mention is that they even fill the watch with argon and have a special oil. So you only have to service it when the dehumidifier is saturated, which I could do fairly close by. I don't know how easy that would be in the USA. It's my first proper watch I'm getting. I've stumbled over your channel by accident and your love for watches is contagious! You've also got great taste. You've introduced me to both Sinn and NATO straps and I'll be happy to combine them both when my Sinn arrives.

I'm new to watches and I'm poor by most watch collecting standards, but I just have to say that I'd get the 1963 purely due to the beauty of the case back of the watch. I could stare at that movement all day and play with the pushers to watch how they work. It would never get old. My most favorite part of watching Watchfinder and Co is stare at the gorgeous mechanical movements of the high end watches they feature and yet for less than $400 US I can view a beautiful movement on my own hand. Definite buy for Christmas 2019.
Thanks for reviewing the Seagull. I'll have to give them a second look. Is WR an over-rated factor in buying a watch? How strongly should it influence a purchasing decision for the average non-diver person?
Great video as always! I have the white panda dial Seagull 1963 and the Moonphase Seagull. Both seem to run only about 5-7 seconds fast per day; and so far neither have had any problems. Pretty darn good for the price. Cheers!

I managed to find a Sinn 103 A Sa B in 9.5/10 condition. Being in Australia we only got 15 of these when released via the AD, so I was pretty thrilled to find one 3 years later, albeit via the WUS forums. Absolutely stunning watch. Keeps great time. It does sit tall but I only ever wear it on the strap on weekends. A happy 1/500 owner in the world.
Another awesome video. And Thank you for pointing out the accuracy v price. Those little details is what not only assists us in making a purchase but keeping or "egos" in check with our decisions and not keeping up with the Jones's. Cheers
Governor, I've got a solution for your Speedmaster dilemma. Consign it to someone you totally trust, who will keep it for you for a while (say 6 months). And I mean they won't let you see it at all. Then, when they'll give it back to you, you should be able to tell whether you missed it or not, without having to sell it. :)
Immediately after ordering the blue 103 I had second thoughts and concerns about the height. At the same time I just received my Orient OSD which is the same height so I learned a couple things. Strap selection is critical, but also giving it some time to settle into the wrist. If you wear the watch for about an hour it makes itself at home. The pictures of the 103 on the NATO really swayed me to buy, but, it really just makes the height worse. Or the NATO makes it better as it brings the watch closer to my eyes.
Man that seagull is something Really like the spec gonna look up lug to lug sizes between that 38 and 42mm and compare that to my current watches when I decide
The 1963 you have doesn't say Sea-gull on it anywhere, so it is not a Sea-gull watch. I have the 38mm with Sapphire, along with all my other new and vintage Sea-gull watches. Sea-gull did make a limited issue of the 1963 which was engraved with Sea-gull and its history with a solid caseback. You could always get a Alpha speed master homage which has the Seagull st19 movement.
The movement of the Seagull is absolutely gorgeous, and I'm looking forward to mine getting here. I love that it's unashamedly Chinese, from an era before "Made in China" was a negative phrase.
Wow, that seagull is stunning! Love the styling of that, very similar to a lot of the old Russian watches like the vintage Sephora and sturmanskie ones. Anyway, great video as usual, thanks a lot. Ted

Hard to give up Speedmaster... LOL Thanks for great review. Hoping that you will do Fortis Official Cosmonaut Chronograph eventually. Also, I dont remember that you did video on Valjoux movemant. I would love to see that too. Big like as always!
Thank you Mike, very difficult indeed to give up on speedy. LOVE Fortis!!!! Hopefully one day, great choice of course, nice one my friend. Best regards, TGV
the 1963 is an excellent watch imo. I have the “original” 38 acrylic version in my collection. I wear it now and then, with a two tone green nato strap (same olive green as original but with two light green stripes on it) and I like it a lot, Its a bit small the 38mm for me, but I prefer to have it in the original diameter.
Great Video TGV! Here in Singapore Seagull has an actual store. Several other models on display including a Sub $3K tourbillon! I was about to buy a 1963 but decided not to due to inability to have it serviced/repaired when back in the USA. Also, I see them frequently for sale used with "issues" locally. And, that I'm saving up for either a Speedmaster 3539.50 or a Seiko chronograph with their 8R28 column wheel, triple vertical clutch 34 jewel 28,800 vph movements. currently leaning Seiko due to being a better value for money. Trick is finding the right one via hunting the local pawn shops. Keep up the good work!

long island watch dosnt sell all the varients of the 38mm that you can find online. they dont loose the foe blued screws but they do ditch the blue hands and add a white chrono hand.
Hi TGV - Really like the Sinn if only it was a bit shorter. 14mm is as high as I like to go. I know that rules out a number of great watches but that's the way my taste is running these days. Thanks for the video! Cheers!
If you like a jumping hour TGV, check out the Oris Artelier Jumping Hour. You may be very interested in it as a dress watch. Just wish it was 38 mm instead of 40.5
Chemically blued screws not painted on the 1963. My son has the Seagull st19 03 movement in an Alpha sterile speedmaster homage watch. The 03 version has an extra 24 hour hand at the bottom of the dial.
I have a Sinn 103 Klassik 12 60th ANNIVERSARY LIMITED EDITION on the way. As I have been searching TH-cam for that watch, this particular video popped up. By chance, I also have a Seagull 1963. I hope to love the 103 as much as I do the 1963. Both forever watches for me. I was also intrigued by the Speedmaster in the intro. I had been considering one, but for whatever reason, it just didn't do it for me. A Daytona will always be too many $$$s for me. The SINN 103, for me is "Speedmaster meets Daytona". And with the 12H bezel on my variant, helps with my love of travel and time in general.
Barely noticeable, but it is noticeable; the large chrono second hand is a bit jerky when you start the chrono at 13:12. This happened in more video's I've seen so this seem to be a bit inherent to this model.
TGV... from man to man, watch lover to watch lover, PLEASE wear the speedy for a few more days and you will, YOU MUST realize that the speedy needs to remain. Best, your watch buddy, Eric
That Seagull just looks so retro. Really nice. I'm Chinese and my dad likes watches but he isn't a true watch guy. Maybe I should try getting a Seagull and give it to him as a gift.
TGV - what are your thoughts on the Speedy Reduced 2nd hand? The service costs are very high as you need to replace the chrono. Is it too risky buying a 2nd hand one? Is a better buy the professional? (Size aside).
If you buy from a good source, then not risky, seller is EVERYTHING. I love them, and to me, the high service cost is worth it. Happy hunting my friend. Thank you, Best regards, TGV
The only watches i can get in my country for a decent price are the seagulls, any other brand i have to pay 3x or more. For example the seiko 5 it's like 200 bucks. So i'm very grateful for this review because now i know i can get a nice watch without having to buy something overpriced.
I love it, I think it's great, I have been looking at a ton of watches with that case style, only thing that puts me off is the size. Thank you, Best regards, TGV
+The Urban Gentry Thanks. Agree it's a big watch , bigger than I would wear normally for my thin wrist but then again I have no qualms wearing a G shock
Congratulations for the winners. Nice way to commemorate the 50k subscribers Tristano, which reminds me of the pictures I sent you regarding the Seiko as seen in the House of Cards. I remember that you received them and asked for my address. Did you receive it?
OMG, you know what happened, there is another chap on my instgram called Firas, I emailed him asking for the address as I could not find it, and he said he didn't know what I was talking about LOL so embarrassing, So sorry my friend, could you kindly email me again and I will sort it this week. I am all over the palace at the moment, anyways, I hope you are well. Thank you, Best regards, TGV
No worries Tristano, I know how busy you are, we are all in this rocky boat called life. I will email you now with the address. It begins with fez96. Cheers.
Do this Sinn go that good in prices in US? the Sinn A SA B is offered on some local markets in germany, maybe it would make sense to buy good used ones in germany and sell it in the US ;)
The Seagull 1963 is an incredible value and a real conversation starter. Keep up the great work! I've learned so much from you and have purchased 5 watches based on your reviews or recommendations.
Hi TGV, dont sell the speedmaster, its a classic, i dont wear mine as often as i like too but i get satisfaction in knowing i own one and its the backbone of my collection
Hey, TGV! Great videos! I didn't care too much about watches, I only own a Swatch Scuba and a regular Timberland one, but your and Frederico's videos really made me interested in watches. With your advice, I'm thinking of buying the Seiko SKX. However, it isn't available in any place near my home. Would you advise me buying it from Amazon? keep on the good work
Great video TGV love the blue of the Sinn but I do feel that the Seagull watches are so underrated when you search around there are so many great watches. I think you reviewing one as the King of affordable alternatives will do the brand wonders and not to big up up to much but you speak and people look
Haha, it is quite amazing isn't it. A true work of art, the photography, the script, MASSIVE Mads fan too, it is so dark and profoundly disturbing yet utterly beautiful, just love it. The first 2 seasons with Hannibal cooking and of course the third season in my dear old Firenze, PURE CLASS!!! You have great taste in TV ;-) Thank you, Best regards, TGV P.s. did you see the Hannibal book in my video at Christmas?
The Urban Gentry Don't think so, may not have seen that video :( Didn't think you'd enjoy such a gory show though haha, that scene with Mason is forever burnt into my eyes
Would love to see a duel between the Sinn and the Breitling. Also, the Seagull 1961 has a black dialed version with gold markers, which looks absolute class. It can almost be considered a dress watch.
Do not sell your speed master that's part of the big 3 in your collection. Submariner , Navitimer and Speed master they belong together I'm trying to get all 3 my self
you forgot to mention its a column wheel chronograph! i just noticed the column wheel when you showed the case back, good stuff for an affordable price! edit; typed comment too quick, you did briefly mention that it had a column wheel
I thought minute repeater was the 2nd most complicated complication after tourbillion. Anyways, nice vid TGV. It made me appreciate more about seagull's watches and history.
Great intro music! That Sinn is a beauty, just wish it wasn't so fat. But I do love that sunray blue dial. One thing to point out, the blued screws in the Sinn are not heated to get them blue but are chemically blued. Better than the painted Seagul's but not heated. You can tell by the slot in the screw. If it's not blued then you know it's not a heated blue. This is not a knock on the SInn by the way. Just pointing that out. Great reviews as always. Ciao, John
As Mr Damata says - it's not quite as good as thermally blued but it's definitely better than painted. The chemical treatment does bond to the "skin" of the part and help prevent corrosion... You'll see lots of movements use it, when you start looking at the slots in the screw heads. Thermally blued screws or not, that 7750 in the Sinn is very nicely decorated. John
I tend to prefer the simplicity of a no date although from time to time i'll go for a (well placed) date feature. Chronographs & the like just aren't my thing.
Be careful when you said "Seagull reissued this watch", because the particular piece in your hand is not a Seagull offical reissue but a homolog using a Seagull movement.
Hi, I just want to say I really love your channel. I've seen the snkl23 vídeo perhaps 15 times. I am from Colombia and honestly I do not have that much money. I am getting into watches and I love my F-91w and the rare a-159 Made in Japan. I've been saving a lot and I just keep on checking videos and pictures of the seagull. Would you mind giving me some tips to buy it online at a reasonable price, please? Thanks, greetings from Bogotá
It would appear that Chinese have resurrected the clock maker brand Gustav Becker and they put this movement inside. There is a stunning blue dial version. They even use the original GB logo from 1899!
Really great reviews of these two excellent watches. I have to agree with TGV's comments about the faux blue hands on the Seagull; gold would have been better for a variety of reasons, especially when considering its classiness/sentimental value in years to come. TGV, keep the as-new Speedy, and get it's little brother, the Reduced, for good company!
T if ever you decide to sell your speedy sell it to me. I'll hold onto it until the sellers remorse drives you mad and I'll sell it back to ya haha! Quality review my friend. That Sinn is beautiful. Danny from the watch group got on as well. There's a few of them within our community.
I almost bought the Seagull 1963 as my first watch ever a few years back but never pulled the trigger. A few weeks ago i saw it in the wild here in Sweden. Almost stopped the guy wearing it to talk to him about the watch but never did.
In my opinion a speedy in a collection is a tell-tale sign that the collector isn't about flashing their watches around but is a guy who appreciates horology and history within the watch world. I personally think it would be silly to sell it especially like you said about having it from new. Sort of like a "this is my watch" type of thing. I don't know if i'm making much sense but hopefully you understand :P Saw in your other comment that you bought a moon-phase. I look forward to that video!
Thank you Jack, If I do decide to sell it, I would of course buy back a reduced, so I will always have a speedy, the rest of the money would go into more watches to have fun with. But you are so right about it being not about the flash but about the horology! Excellent comment. Best regards, TGV

I own the Seagull and I concur with your thoughts. The accuracy, chronograph and sapphire crystal is what really surprised me at that price point. Nice review TGV! Liked both pieces, specially the seagull... Keep the good work! Cheers!!!
Congratulations Reece.
If you like a jumping hour TGV, check out the Oris Artelier Jumping Hour. You may be very interested in it as a dress watch. Just wish it was 38 mm instead of 40.5
As you know I love Oris and a good jumping hour, so going to google it right now! Thank you Adam,
Best regards,
TGV
+The Urban Gentry I will be interested to know what you think of it. I don't know why that style of watch isn't more common.
O.M.G that blue is just so beautiful. I'm the same TGV a sucker for blue faced watches. Great review as always.
So glad you've changed your mind about the speedy! Definitely a classic that should be held on to :-) Great video as always!
Thank you Rob, very kind. I am about 75% keeping it, I was 50/50 before, so I will give it another month ;-)
Best regards,
TGV
TGV... from man to man, watch lover to watch lover, PLEASE wear the speedy for a few more days and you will, YOU MUST realize that the speedy needs to remain.
Best, your watch buddy, Eric
Haha, thank you Eric,
Duly noted!
Best regards
TGV
I just own this same pre own sinn 103 b model, absolutely cool
Thank you,
Best regards,
TGV
The only watches i can get in my country for a decent price are the seagulls, any other brand i have to pay 3x or more. For example the seiko 5 it's like 200 bucks.
So i'm very grateful for this review because now i know i can get a nice watch without having to buy something overpriced.
Which country?
more power to you tgv and to fellow gents. be always the guy with class
Thank you Frank, very flattered :D
Best regards,
TGV
Looking at your desk while looking at your desk...like the scene in "Spaceballs" where they had fast-forwarded to NOW.
Man, awesome intro! Best channel! Keep it up Tristano!
Thank you Philip :D
Best regards,
TGV
What do you think of the sinn 240 st ? Technically it's not one of the best from sinn and not much of a collectors piece but I love the look.
I love it, I think it's great, I have been looking at a ton of watches with that case style, only thing that puts me off is the size. Thank you,
Best regards,
TGV
+The Urban Gentry Thanks. Agree it's a big watch , bigger than I would wear normally for my thin wrist but then again I have no qualms wearing a G shock
Awesome video as always.Good work
Thank you Marino! Very kind.
Best regards,
TGV
Congratulations for the winners. Nice way to commemorate the 50k subscribers Tristano, which reminds me
of the pictures I sent you regarding the Seiko as seen in the House of Cards.
I remember that you received them and asked for my address. Did you receive it?
OMG, you know what happened, there is another chap on my instgram called Firas, I emailed him asking for the address as I could not find it, and he said he didn't know what I was talking about LOL so embarrassing,
So sorry my friend, could you kindly email me again and I will sort it this week.
I am all over the palace at the moment, anyways, I hope you are well.
Thank you,
Best regards,
TGV
No worries Tristano, I know how busy you are, we are all in this rocky boat called life. I will email you now with the address. It begins with fez96. Cheers.
Thank you again my friend, sorry again to the mix up.
Speak soon,
Best regards,
TGV
email sent (;
Do this Sinn go that good in prices in US? the Sinn A SA B is offered on some local markets in germany, maybe it would make sense to buy good used ones in germany and sell it in the US ;)
Good choice with your Speedy. Take your time !
Thank you my friend!
Best regards,
TGV
Should put back the black and beige nato strap. Suits it so well ! I'm sure you will fall in love with the speedy again :-)
The Seagull 1963 is an incredible value and a real conversation starter. Keep up the great work! I've learned so much from you and have purchased 5 watches based on your reviews or recommendations.
WOW, thank you so much Steven, so glad to hear, makes my day in fact, I hope my recommendations are serving you well.
Best regards,
TGV
Oh my god yes, you watch Hannibal. More people need to learn about this show, it's the best, most beautiful and most elegant show I've ever seen
You have great taste in TV ;-)
Thank you,
Best regards,
TGV
P.s. did you see the Hannibal book in my video at Christmas?
The Urban Gentry Don't think so, may not have seen that video :( Didn't think you'd enjoy such a gory show though haha, that scene with Mason is forever burnt into my eyes
LOL, my taste in Cinema and TV is VERY VERY dark ;-)
Thank you my friend.
Best regards,
TGV
Would love to see a duel between the Sinn and the Breitling. Also, the Seagull 1961 has a black dialed version with gold markers, which looks absolute class. It can almost be considered a dress watch.
Consider it done! Thank you,
Best regards,
TGV
That seagull is gorgeous!
Do not sell your speed master that's part of the big 3 in your collection. Submariner , Navitimer and Speed master they belong together I'm trying to get all 3 my self
VERY good point,
Thank you Tiger sir!
Best regards,
TGV
You are right Tiger even if sometimes you got to do something that you will regret ☺ it makes the game better
Hello,
Any opinions on SeaGull in general?
I am fairly interested in the SeaGull 819.382 model.
Thanks!
Any reviews on seiko srp777 ? Or any comments about the watch?
Well done to all the competition winners 😄
Thank you David!
Best regards,
TGV
What is the average service cost for Seagull 1963 ?
And is there any watchmaker who does the standard service for it ?
SINN!!! What a stunning watch!!!! Absoulty love it... Next to the seagull, there's no comparison... Great Video TGV.. Must get a Sinn!!! BMJ ENGLAND.
you forgot to mention its a column wheel chronograph! i just noticed the column wheel when you showed the case back, good stuff for an affordable price!
edit; typed comment too quick, you did briefly mention that it had a column wheel
Haha, I was about to say I did! ;-)
Thank you,
Best regards,
TGV

Fantastic video once again really helped me choose what watches I would like thank you TGV
I read somewhere that display case back 1963 were not made by the official brand... is that true ?
Ciao, John
Thank you John, very interesting, so is chemical bluing as good as heating them?
Best regards,
TGV
As Mr Damata says - it's not quite as good as thermally blued but it's definitely better than painted. The chemical treatment does bond to the "skin" of the part and help prevent corrosion... You'll see lots of movements use it, when you start looking at the slots in the screw heads. Thermally blued screws or not, that 7750 in the Sinn is very nicely decorated. John
What's your opinion on the Sea-Gull M199s, would you ever review it??
Not a great fan of complications unfortunately but your review as always was top notch.
PS Loving the new intro with Little Ernest.
Thank you Stephen, just out of interest, which complications interest you?
Best regards
TGV
I tend to prefer the simplicity of a no date although from time to time i'll go for a (well placed) date feature. Chronographs & the like just aren't my thing.
Be careful when you said "Seagull reissued this watch", because the particular piece in your hand is not a Seagull offical reissue but a homolog using a Seagull movement.
I so want the Sinn 103!
LOLOL ok my friend, good one :D
Seems there are a few about, well out group does have great taste ;-)
Best regards,
TGV
Another great video ! Love that Sinn!
Where can I buy a original seagull 1963, from I heard is that there are many copies and I want a seagull made.
Well done Reece
troy is a good friend indeed , nice video
I almost bought the Seagull 1963 as my first watch ever a few years back but never pulled the trigger. A few weeks ago i saw it in the wild here in Sweden. Almost stopped the guy wearing it to talk to him about the watch but never did.
That is definitely a thick case!! I love the dial and caseback but that thickness....hmmm. I would still wear it!!
Love the intro music! It's part of the soundtrack from "Excalibur," if I'm not mistaken. What's the name of the piece?
Best regards,
TGV
I like the watch internal workings there a work of art.
Loving the 38mm one, where can i get that?
