- The original Bankfield house in Boothtown, Halifax was built in 1800. A far less grand building to what it would be just a few decades later.
Bought by Edward Ackroyd in 1838, the passing of his mill owner father saw Edward come into money. With this inheritance, he began to create a lavish home. Becoming an MP for Halifax, the building was now a suitable accommodation to house the rich and famous at the time.
In 1887, the museum was bought by the Halifax Corporation and has been a museum ever since.
Free to enter, it currently is the home of a very famous television shirt.
Live near the church and Bankfield museum and the library is something else it’s beautiful and the museum is great for taking the kids and free of charge ( always give a donation) they also do a lot of activities for the kids in the holidays proper little underrated gem we often forget about !!
