When hiking in bear country, always bring a hiking stick with bells. In most cases, the sound will scare them off. Don't wear any scented soaps, colognes, etc. that can be mistaken for the scent of flowers. I would take a bear horn and a can of bear spray; they actually shoot out 25 ft... good to have a firearm, if legal, but only for a last resort.
My sister lived up there for many years, and this was her guidance. At least you're not hiking alone. She had a friend, a very experienced hiker, who did go alone and was eaten by a grizzly. Precautions have to be taken seriously in their territory... and then we can enjoy the beautiful scenery and wildlife.
Hiking at higher elevations will get to anyone not acclimated. I love that park and lake.
took the Train across country through Glacier National park earlier this year. loved it
I’d suggest bear spray as your first line of defense in grizzly country - statistically more effective than a gun in deterring an attack, and may prevent unnecessarily killing or injuring a bear. A gun could still be carried as a back up.

You are very wise to avoid wildfires and the smoke they produce. When trees burn, so does everything below them, such as poison ivy, poison oak, poison hemlock, and poison sumac. Getting caught down wind of these things, or driving into the smoke from them is a very real and dangerous thing to expose yourself and others to, and best avoided. Happy birthday Wynston!!

just a little advice :) hiking in the woods...you need pants and tennis shoes or hiking shoes. remember there are plants like poison ivy near trails. if something happens, you can back away out of a situation with animals :)

Wynston has a little snagged tooth just like one of my pups! So cute!
Taking your recommendation, I camped at Bowman Lakes last night. But I only had one night to stay as I wanted to escape before the heavy rains forecast for tomorrow. I sure didn't want to try to drive out after heavy rains on that "road". Great recommendation - one of my favorite views in the park. Reminded me of Lake Louise in Banff. Then this morning, there was a low fog that gave it a totally different, but still very beautiful look. I meant to get a picture of that Bowman Lakes Visitor Tent and forgot all about it until I was about 2 miles away and didn't go back for it after already making it that far on that road.

Hi Amanda and Wynston. I watch every video. I always learn from what you share. So I’ve Boondock probably six or seven times now out of my truck and this weekend while I’m Boondocking it has been super windy which is something I have not experienced before.. maybe you can make a video on the wind and how to prepare better for that. I can deal with the rain, but this wind is a whole new story lol 😅
