All the armour in oblivion look like theatre costumes. If you met that kind of warrior in person, I'd laugh. But if I saw someone looking more like the Skyrim guy, I'd probably shit myself
It's weird that all the armour in Skyrim is actually useless, leaves way too many exposed areas (see: Iron armour) and the armour in Oblivion is good, protects the whole body and has useful helmets.
Iron armor is the only heavy in Skyrim that has an exposed area like that, and it's because it is the cheap starting heavy set. Maybe regular steel armor too but it's not too much better, and even still they both have upgraded chest pieces that add sleeves. Meanwhile there is Steel Plate, Dwarven, Ebony, and Daedric with full body armor suits.
Devin O'dore Daedric armour is awful, too fantastical with overly heavy plates,no neck protection etc. Same with Dwarven Armour, it would be impossible to move in, and alongside it, there's no upper leg protection in Dwarven armour.
You want really charming quests and gameplay? Play Oblivion. You want beautiful landscapes and astounding graphics? Play Skyrim. All I want is them combined.
There's not really any "after that." Your made up story takes place in the world the whole time. When you're done, give your character a meaningful death.
Ebony became more badass, but I think Orcish had the best improvement. It looks better in design And lore-wise. I like Oblivion's Iron armor better because it looks like you're in a suit of armor and not just trying to protect your important bits.
@FuckinWeeb Yeah, yeah, you disagree EVERYTHING about Skyrim because you thinks "Oblivion good Skyrim Bad", aren't you? Playing old games really must make you special, huh?
the only thing i hated about shrouded armor in skyrim is how big the hoods were.. like damn i wanna look stealthy not like im an alien from mars with that balloon head
It’s an assassin’s armor. The whole point of covert action is to not be seen, so who cares if it looks ugly? Usefulness over vanity. I agree that it looks bad, but it’s understandable. Now heavy armors, like ebony or steel plate must inspire fear in your foes and rally your comrades to battle, hence they are made carefully and have a cool design.
Bryn Shadow In my opinion, the Shrouded Armor should've looked more like the Nightingale armor (not texture wise, but just...overall shape). Wearing the shrouded armor in Skyrim emberrases me because it makes me feel like I'm wearing some kinky studded pajamas.
People keep defending Oblivion like it was a great looking game for its time and honestly it wasn't. Compared to other big titles that came out around that time it looks and plays kind of crappy. The story was legit, but there is no denying how it looks and plays. If it wasn't for the modding community the game wouldn't be held in such high regard.
Vanilla Theis People keep saying how Oblivion wasn't good for its time as if their opinion is fact. There is nothing to deny here, by the way. Two people can look at the same painting differently, we all have our own opinions and view of this game. At the time, I thought Oblivion was marvelous: it had amazing graphics for its time, beautiful music, wonderful story, the gameplay was fun and new, and I had never played anything like it before.
Dalton Russell No, there is no part of armor on that outfit. You would just cut through it with a sword. Light armor is hardened leather with stell plates or chainmail and steel helmet.
I really dont like higher tear armors in these kind of games. I mean most of them look great and epic but whenever i play an elder scrolls game i always find myself playing with lower tiers of armor because they look more realistic and down to earth in my opinion. It also makes me feel more connected to the world when i walk around like anyone else and not in super fancy high fantasy armor.
Bro, the dawnguard armor with the torturer hood is one of the best looking armor combinations in skyrim, you straight up look like a rogue and it fits the world so well
Funny thing is kOTn armour is now in Skyrim from the CK, and also a mod but regardless Oblivion doesnt have anything else unique. STILL LOVE Oblivion. Just love Skyrim #1 over anything, so happy we got Special edition
@Barbara Meza I would harbor a guess that you are referring to the realms of Oblivion that are seen in the Oblivion gates - i.e., Mehrunes Dagon's realm of Oblivion, which is apparently known as the "Dreadlands."
I like the comparisons here. It's a nice way to show how not only how graphically TES has changed, but since each game takes place in a different country of Tamriel, they create and design their armor differently depending on the climate of the area and the necessities of the social-political situation.
manegirl93416 this is a good point but Skyrim is cold and it seems like oblivion armors have more coverage than skyrim like the leather armor in Skyrim is a damn skirt and a sleeveless shirt with some shoulder pads that always bothered me like I'm running around in the snow swimming in frigid waters during a snow storm but I'm half naked
Andrew smith that's why I wear fur armor til I skip the leather section I never liked how it look I mean it looks just dumb with out it being ice cold out
It’s steel plate armor. There are multiple types of steel armor. This includes steel, scaled, steel plate, steel horned, steel Nordic, and steel imperial.
Skyrim looks so dark and grey compared to Oblivion. Oh well I guess that's why we use ENBs, and I guess Bethesda was going for the whole dark medieval look.
rema fanai i think oblivions ebony looks better because (except the helmet) it looks like a coat made from overlapping plates or plate armor as some ppl like to call it^
@Una The BookWorm you don't really need a reason other than the fact that Black looks more Pleasing to the eye, it doesn't hurt like White does, and people are more accustomed on wearing black, even famous actors would wear black or blue suits on events, Blue and Black are the 2 universally liked clothing color especially Blue but Black are still more formal, I don't know if you just hate the color black and assumed everybody wears it for some formal reason but that isn't the case, the two mentioned colors are just a cut above the rest
I think in oblivion they should have used a different armor type for low level dremora. It made the daedric armor feel trivial, because the literally the most common foe is wearing it from the get go. They should have had a less impressive looking set with similar motifs, and then the bigboy endgame daedric armor.
True but not being able to fast travel because a slaughterfish that you can't hit with your primary weapon is quite problematic when trying to fast travel.
+CoDKinG104 what I mean is the term "Daedra" is a collective term for multiple races of the oblivion plane, in case I didn't make that clear in my first comment.
the graphics still are good to think only a couple of years after oblivion gaming graphics sky rocketed skip to present day and now we have unreal engine four
I hate it how people hate Oblivion just because it has bad graphics, and is kind of more difficult than Skyrim. Once you get the basic concepts of Oblivion, its fun.
@@Luna-Starfrost I had forgotten to point out that when he compared the armors between the two games. He obviously haven't used appropriate sets of armor like the orcish armor in Oblivion, he is still wearing ebony boots and still wielding elven sword and elven shield.
Honestly, I think the visuals are much more important than quests and characters in sandbox RPGs, for the simple fact that I want to feel immersed when walking through a beautiful land, and realistic graphics help that In a huge way.
The actual content of the game is less important to you than graphics? That's so absurd it's moronic. Regardless, I don't see how anyone could enjoy the grey environment of Skyrim more than Oblivion's. The complete lack of color makes the game hideous. I remember when it came out I didn't enjoy traveling nearly as much because of how dull everything looked. In Oblivion, especially in the Shivering Isles, everything looks vivid
I believe you mean resolution. Skyrim is generally far more beautiful than Oblivion due to the mountains, and the open tundra... it allows for picture-perfect gameplay in some scenes. However, despite that, the resolution is... well, terrible in some places. Especially up close to those things. In that regard, Oblivion is better, because even up close things don't change much.
Agreed! Almost everywhere you go it's snowing and no sunshine. i was impressed by the armor designs but got tired of the same scenery, same dwarven/nordish dungeons and lack of diversity of enemy NPCs.
Oblivion feels more nostalgic to me, and seeing its armour sets made me smile. Sure, most are wacky. But i like the medieval feel mixed with fantasy. Plus, Daedra armor still looks great after so long. And we can't forget the knight of the nine crusader-style armor set!
@@sirsteam181 For the most part, yeah - that's the exact same reason why I also just generally like Oblivion's armors more. There are a few Skyrim armors that look practical, too. The Steel Plate armor shown in this video looks fairly good, the Ebony armor looks great, and the fur armor looks pretty decent too. The Dawnguard brigandine-looking armors were definitely a welcome sight when I first saw them, and the Skyrim elven armor is a good look too. A lot of the issue with most Oblivion armors narrows down solely to the helmet pieces of most armor sets, particularly the Glass and Ebony helmets. The sheer brightness of the colors in Oblivion also affect the appearance of many assets negatively, as they lose a sense of reality when so starkly lit up. I imagine shader and lighting mods could look phenomenal on Oblivion.
I think that Oblivion's armor are more logical, they cover well your arms, legs and chest. I'd prefer wearing Oblivion ones because they look more strong and not so likely to break, but Skyrim ones leave critical areas of your body unprotected. Only thoughts.
Yeah I've always wondered that one, for instance why the hell would you show skin like that? I mean you're in Skyrim, it's supposed to cold as hell, only the Nords could endure that. Though I suppose that covering too much might and will hinder movements to an extreme. A shame that armors are not different for each races, man that would have been awesome.
combinecommando001 Covering things with chainmail or with padded gambeson doesn't hinder your movement almost at ALL. You can't of course put plate armour under your armpits or in all of your joints, but you can at least put leather or gambeson or chainmail there without limiting your mobility. It's just stupid to leave skin uncovered when even just thick clothing would protect you a lot better than bare skin.
My impressions were about the color palate between Oblivion and Skyrim. The glowing affect really aged Oblivion, imo, and Skyrim seems almost black and grey.
Visually i'd say that Oblivion has aged worse than Morrowind. Morrowind's bizarre world and art style are really something else. I'm considering doing a comparison between Morrowind and Skyrim armors for shits n giggles.
Really the only problem I have with skyrim armor is all the bare skin. As someone who lives up north, you would NOT want to dress like that in a place like skyrim. Some of the armor looks like it belongs in Elsweyr or Hammerfell.
It's inspired by our idea of norse fantasy and myth. Viking horns, bare skin, axes, valhalla, drinking plenty of mead etc. Oblivion's armors were the same, primarily overly designed, obviously inspired by real world armors but with too much flare. And don't get me started on those weapons... about as good as a toy sword. The truth isn't as fun or unique. Hell norse warriors wore similar equipment or at least comparable to knights. And no one ever wore leather armor in history. Basically, it's a game not the real world. So in the fantasy we suspend our disbelief to accept that in Skyrim nords wear little in the north & in Oblivion overly designed, & due to this realistically overweight, armors won't get you killed.
I do love how the armors reflect the new areas they take place in as well as the passage of time with each game - it's what I love about ESO so much makes me look forward to ES6 even more :D

Howcome ? Not liking the story/setting or not a fan of more character heavy RPGs ?
Yeah, it wasn't really my cup of tea. I prefer Fallout/ES games due to how you can build your own adventure. That's probably the most fun thing to do.
I kinda like that the weakest heavy armour looks cheap tho. Makes the bandits wearing it seem rough
Yeah that full plate steel being separate from normal steel was a good choice.
Common heavy armor bandits being in complete suits is silly
I agree. Early game armor looks terrible to me. I can help but mod them every time see them.
I hate that one the same reason I hate the Imperial one; it's just the historical reference, not much originality to the fantasy generally-speaking.
I'm voting for Dwarven on most improved. The blockiness of the Oblivion variant, and the design of the helmet was just awful 🤣
Oblivion armors look like knights or paladins, while Skyrim's look more viking-ish
That’s because Skyrim is basically a Viking game and oblivion your a knight just stopping devils
Hi, it's me completed it
Lautaro Lencina It is not that serious
@Lautaro Lencina Dude, did you?
Knights of the Nine, fighting evil Ayleid demons
I think that is the point..
There is no color in Skyrim's armor, but the detail is SO MUCH BETTER.
CheeseHead Gaming
That's the point.. Oblivions color looks like something from MLP XD
Spartan & Loleris Gaming there is color, or is this a Joke
Armor isn't supposed to be that colorful anyway, imo.
Holy shit Dwarven armor in Skyrim is soooo much more intimidating lol
And heavy as fuuck
In oblivion it looks like a barrel...
Only intimidating when you played to much donkey kong 😅😅
@Sweet Roll still some armors look reeeaally weird, glass armor and dwemer armor for example..
@Sweet Roll glass armor is way too bright and dwarven Armor has a body part which looks like a barrel. That's kinda weird
@FuckinWeeb Yeah, yeah, you disagree EVERYTHING about Skyrim because you thinks "Oblivion good Skyrim Bad", aren't you? Playing old games really must make you special, huh?
I like the fact that Skyrim's Daedric armor has a dragon shaped helmet.
And the Shield looks like a dragon that closing his wing makes it even better

@@donteverbuynoweedfromthega844 honestly worst looking armor in the game, it looks ridiculously bad I was disappointed
@@DraedonTheInventorsneaking around in them tight ass skinny little leather pants for some ten years
The only Oblivion armor I like better is the shrouded armour. It looks more realistic and the Skyrim version looks too costume-y.
Bryn Shadow In my opinion, the Shrouded Armor should've looked more like the Nightingale armor (not texture wise, but just...overall shape). Wearing the shrouded armor in Skyrim emberrases me because it makes me feel like I'm wearing some kinky studded pajamas.
Hey at least it's kinky ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
I preferred the shrouded and leather armor in oblivion
I get the kinky studded pajamas playing as a girl, but as a man I feel like a cheap Spider-Man or a cheap deadpool

Realistic? In a game full of dragons and vampires we are talking about realism?
That's because Oblivion is an old game that was released in freaking 2006?
The shrouded armor was better looking in Oblivion in my opinion.

I really dont like higher tear armors in these kind of games. It also makes me feel more connected to the world when i walk around like anyone else and not in super fancy high fantasy armor.
In Skyrim I usually rock leather or steel until I unlock smithing of dragon armour that's the only upgrade I get

I like the comparisons here. It's a nice way to show how not only how graphically TES has changed, but since each game takes place in a different country of Tamriel, they create and design their armor differently depending on the climate of the area and the necessities of the social-political situation.
True. And of course, the modding community does this as well.

Daedric Armor looks cool in both games.

the armors are cooler in Skyrim, but the land is gorgeous in Oblivion
Implying Skyrim isn't beautiful?
multiHappyHacker I mean, sometimes in skyrim shit just looks like it's been meltrd
I believe you mean resolution. Skyrim is generally far more beautiful than Oblivion due to the mountains, and the open tundra... it allows for picture-perfect gameplay in some scenes. However, despite that, the resolution is... well, terrible in some places. Especially up close to those things. In that regard, Oblivion is better, because even up close things don't change much.
skyrim looks depressing
I have the same feeling however as I history buff I can enjoy Oblivions armor more because it seems like it's more feasible

Nords got the frost resist :)
combinecommando001
Covering things with chainmail or with padded gambeson doesn't hinder your movement almost at ALL. You can't of course put plate armour under your armpits or in all of your joints, but you can at least put leather or gambeson or chainmail there without limiting your mobility. It's just stupid to leave skin uncovered when even just thick clothing would protect you a lot better than bare skin.
***** Most true
My impressions were about the color palate between Oblivion and Skyrim. The glowing affect really aged Oblivion, imo, and Skyrim seems almost black and grey.
Visually i'd say that Oblivion has aged worse than Morrowind. Morrowind's bizarre world and art style are really something else. I'm considering doing a comparison between Morrowind and Skyrim armors for shits n giggles.
Eric Campbell cuz it's the end times
Really the only problem I have with skyrim armor is all the bare skin. As someone who lives up north, you would NOT want to dress like that in a place like skyrim. Some of the armor looks like it belongs in Elsweyr or Hammerfell.
*picks up Hammerfell garb* This shouldnt be here.
Definitely why I lean more in the direction of Dawnguard and Nordic Carved armor.
the funny thing is the hammerfell garbs you can find in Skyrim cover much more skin
UTO7 nords are the main race in skyrim, so they are naturally resistant to the cold, meaning they cover up but don't need to as much as they "should"
It's inspired by our idea of norse fantasy and myth.
