I appreciate this video it was helpful but I'm very thankful to Jonathan Hollick. Using dental equipment just didn't sit right with me on this replacement but I appreciate the attempt. What Jonathan said is absolutely correct it took me 5 minutes to replace these visor Clips on my 1995 E320 convertible thanks again Jonathan you the man

You don't need to go through all this trouble. There is a way to pull off the visor off of the rod and you can just slide the broken trim cap down the rod and off and slide a new one on and screw it down. The video showing this procedure is by classic trim parts.

Not trying to be a smart-a**, but for anyone who doesn’t want to go through all this: the entire visor just comes off the rod (as well as back on) if you apply pulling and twisting. Then you don’t have to fiddle with the metal rod retainer at all.

For a company that prides itself on having the best engineered cars around,I can’t understand why they used cheap plastic on interior trim.I recently bought a 1999 sl 500 and it had that same piece broken also the rear view mirror cover , reading light lens, console lid button and arm rest button. For me it is just minor stuff that can be repaired with a little glue and for a used car I guess it’s to be expected.

Cars exposed to more sun and heat have the problem worse than northern cars . I believe EU regs on biodegradable plastics has a lot to do with the issue . The old old Benz plastics were indestructible

I just followed your instructions and can see why you skipped over showing the dental pick prying up the push nut teeth... it took me about 20 minutes each side, and I ended up stabbing myself with the dental pick! Great video though, thanks very much.

through lots of MB DIYers discover lol .... its been found that the visors will slip off of the rod when in a certain position(at 9:30- 10o'clock when looking from end of visor to mount of visor) with a steady firm twist-pull motion ... (at the end of the rod is a flat side that corresponds to a flat side in visor rod hole) ..... now if we can just figure out how to repair the mirror cover hinges without purchasing 2x $90 mirrors!

kedocom you are right - after 30 minutes of trying to remove the clip on my car that needed both covers replaced I came to the conclusion that this part is not designed to come off so I reverted to your suggestion. Rotating the sunviser around its mount whist off the car you can feel when the flat spot on the rod lines up inside the part and then using firm pulling pressure the sunviser simply slides off the rod and reassembly with the new cover attached becomes a cinch! Anybody who reads this post - PLEASE DO NOT TRY TO DO THIS JOB AS IN THE VIDEO - IT IS TOO DIFFICULT AND YOU WILL DAMAGE YOUR HANDS OR THE PART.

The way you do it in the video is just plain wrong I am sorry to say. Those following your example will damage their hands, tools or the part and still not be able to remove the clip. I tried for 30 minutes and could not do it - the clip is made out of tensile steel and is clearly not meant to be removed. The way to do this is to remove the sunviser from the rod. The rod has a flat spot that lines up inside the part and you can feel that by rotating it when the part is off the car. Simply find that position and apply a firm pull and the rod will disengage and pull out and you can then slip the new cover over the rod and reassemble before reattaching the suviser to the car. Doing the job made me realise why these parts always crack - the screw holes in the cover do not line up perfectly with the holes in the top of the windshield where they attach and have to be aligned with pressure before attachment. Therefore the plastic covers are under tension and will undoubtedly fail again when the windshield flexes during driving or the attachment of the convertible roof. Anyway I am all done until the next time and there will be a next time I am sure. Hope this is useful. Please do it this way and not as in the video.

I've removed 4 or 5 of them over the years and never had much trouble getting the spring clip off.. but if you can pull the visor off the rod , that would be quicker and easier. Thanks for the tip

Jonathan Hollick I've been trying to pull off the sunvisor for the last half an hour! It won't come off.

Hve you taken the sun visor off the vehicle? You have to do this. Then holding the visor rotate and pull the arm. As you rotate the arm you will hit the point where it has a flat spot that lines up with the visor and it will pull out. Be patient!
