Had loads of these. 2000 SC...2000TC....2200SC.....3500A (Auto) and 3500S....The absolute Daddy of them all ! We called them Meccano cars as they virtually took in bits with a spanner. The 3500S was my last about 1987. I made that car as immaculate as could be....AND it was beautiful and so very very clean . I could not get a buyer when it came to selling at a paltry £600 ! Eventually I asked a car dealer I knew at Batley if he could sell it for me. It was not in his showroom a week and he got his asking Price of £1250 !!!

Just be glad it's a single carb, i have a twin carb and balancing those with the spark to get everything working properly is a nightmare. Also be careful with the brakes, they old ones are asbestos so wet them down and get them bagged just to be safe

my dad had two of these cars in the 80s and the early 90s.. I have loads of great memories of them, and him working on them after blown engines, crashes, and one incident involving a high speed dukes of hazard style jump. Subscribed and following in a wave of 80s nostalgia!

@@NotEconomicallyViable A simple needle valve test is to hold the float upside down and gently blow into it with your mouth, preferably with the hose barb or tube clean. It's easy to tell if it's leaking.
I daily drive a 1978 w116 280se and the amount of rust and stuff i had to contend with sucked but i saved it, still needs a tonne of work, rust holes in drivers side wheel arches, bulk head, floor pans etc. Ive treated as much of the rust as i could get to with various product. I put in new tyres and brakes, replaced all suspension components, got it running well, replaced most parts etc etc. It has a bunch of mini dents and fades paint (no visible rust on the outside of the body thankfully) and perfect interior. I still need to replace the drive belts and get a wheel allignment and then shes fully set really. Its nice to have old stuff that you save and slowly restore!

Re your float bowl, as a P6 owner this is a common issue. The cheap plastic floats "bounce" and are susceptible to even the tiniest amounts of dirt. Especially when idling as the engine vibrates a lot while not burning much fuel. Originally these cars had brass floats which didn't do this...for future, you can buy a "stay up" black float, but is is expensive at £30!

You're making excellent progress with this old P6. The beauty of these is that everything is changeable they were designed for this and online somewhere there is a pic of a P6 built from several cars in several colours. The brake nut is called a union btw and the gearbox needs an oil and filter change and will then run smoothly. The engine is solid and you can hear it's a good 1. White smoke for petrol issues and blue smoke for burning oil. Excellent project and look forward to the next instalment

It’s the best way. You can watch as many videos or read as many books as you like, but nothing beats getting the spanners out and having a go yourself.
@@NotEconomicallyViable I restored a MG Midget and a Triumph GT6 once just using the parts diagrams from a Moss catalogue, the drawings are excellent so much better than a Haynes manual

Regarding exhaust smoke: If whatever leaks has been leaking for a while, it will take AGES for whatever has accumulated in the exhaust system to burn off properly.
Excellent video, Nino! You will get to the bottom of the issues yet. The P6 has a very interesting suspension setup, and the turbine engine idea was quite ambitious!

Being a rover.. the rust was probably already there when it left the factory.. Good job getting it going tho.. irrespective of what car it is, its another classic saved..

the break fluid issue is the secondary hydrolic unit on the servo , in this style it cant suck fluid from the master cylinder ( when the servo is mounted with the master cylinder on the bulkhead thats when you get that issue ) hear its the secondary thats let go ,good luck mostly the boar is shot on them so its another unit watch out the air actuator thats turns the servo on they stick too and give you all sorts of running issues and brakes applying without you touching the pedal , love the p6 rebuilt loads of them

I think there is a turbine engined one at the British motor museum at Gaydon. Good luck with the build, my dad had a P6, a great car.
Been following your progress on the old P6, fair play to you mate your an inspiration to many to “have a go” even if you’ve only got a bare minimum of knowlege an interest and willingness to learn.
60’s and 70’s cars are pretty straightforwards to work on in reality, no ECU’s sensors or other “tech” to go wrong anc boggle your brain.

hey well done I had several of these in my youth they are great when in a good state if you spend every weekend util retirement it will serve you well. If you need to do the back inboard breaks teack the wheel and half shaft out disk off wind calliper back etc.good luck
Brake flulid will take ages to clear after im prenegating the exhaust system..I once put a two stroke mixture petrol into the fuel take that had the same effect

I seem to recall that my 1966, Zircon blue, P6 [cost me about £1450 new on the road] had an aluminium bonnet, roof and boot lid. One of the best cars I've ever had; always regretted trading it in for a 3500.
My Dad had the V8 version in a sort of Mustard colour back in the late 80's and I saw it still driving about back in 2003.

White smoke would be coolant

Could the smoke not have been from the oil that you when you took the manifold off original engine
Cheers, Sean. The smoke could definitely be from that. The rings might still need to come back around, and there might be all sorts of gunk in the exhaust 🤷
Smoking could be valve guide seals. Piston rings might loosen up with a few heat cycles. You really should have pulled the trans pan and checked filter and changed fluid. This is a revival. Brakes oils. Tyres. Good luck. Keep going on it. They a good driving car.

Well done with the P6. The smoke /steam might be condensation. If the exhaust boxes are still in reasonable condition they could be holding water!

When you put diesel etc into the old engine some of it down the exhaust it will take qa while to burn off excess off I am an retired rover mechanic
Two key specialist suppliers for parts MGBD or Wins International. Wins are overnight suppliers for everything P6!!
I bought parts from both of those. MGBD was particularly helpful - spoke to Mark on the phone and he’s incredibly knowledgeable about Rover P6s 👍🏻

Grab youself a boat fueltank and electric fuel pump. Safer than an open can. Great that it drove for you after a massive effort. Well done.
The wideness of the engine bay is a result of Rover developing a turbine engine for cars during the time when they designed the P6, which should fit in. This allowed them to put the Buick V8 into the car later on.
Valve stem seals were always an problem on these old engines, they would harden and then let oil through which burnt off. Hence the smoke. You'd have to grind the valves and the block too, due to pitting.
check the fuel pump, the daiphram may gone maybe drawing oil in mixing with petrol,,

just a thought the smoke may water in the back box try disconnecting
You can simply blow into the inlet of the carburetor to test the needle valve. With the float down it should allow you to blow and with it it up it should not. Would have saved a lot of time if you had done that.
My Dad had a 1973 rover 2000tc in chocolate brown,brings bk lots of memories, just recently subbed so catching up, do you not detail the cars in the end?
