Many people say Deontay Wilder is the biggest puncher in heavyweight boxing history. Go watch Wilder land that shotgun right hand on his buddy and current trainer Malik Scott. I guess it was the phantom touch of death that Wilder knocked Scott out with. Unlike 90% of Wilder's previous opponents who were looking for a soft spot on the canvas to lay down in, Joseph Parker showed up with a legit boxing gameplan and enough confidence, skill, and actually, the intent to win. So delusional Denontay loses every single round vs Parke, but he still believes that he won the fight. Then Wilder goes on to say that AJ is still ducking him. Amazing!

Why not fight someone like Chris Arreola or Mariusz Wach for example? Similar with Makhmudov... The worst about him is his lack of coordination sometimes. Wallin had been a sparring partner for AJ, 150 rounds apparently. It looked like sparring partner mentality and after he got busted up a bit by an assertive AJ, he didn't want any more. He'd got paid, had next to zero chance with his lack of power, so what was the point in continuing to take additional damage? I think the AJ from the Usyk rematch would have done exactly the same thing. There was no dynamism in there with Wallin, no real movement. He'd probably been KO'd and beaten up in sparring so he was very tentative but at the same time holding his feet, trying to land something. I was expecting the Gassiev gameplan, spamming the jab and moving constantly. We didn't get any of that.

He beat Chakhkiev on points over 4 rounds in Russia (No.1 HW amateur, that years gold medallist) in the same tourney where Romanov dropped and stopped him. That was 6 months prior to the Olympics. He won a bronze on 34 months experience and 34 amateur bouts. So he must have had some level of boxing skill even back then, he won the vast majority of his amateur bouts by decision. He was mentally destroyed by Fury, which follows the pattern of some other black boxers who suffered beatdowns of this nature. Two ruined him. I don't expect him to look much or even any better in America. Even someone he previously beat with a slight degree of difficulty, like a prime Duhaupas, might well beat him now.

Wilder started boxing 3 days removed from his 20th birthday, so he's been boxing over 18 years.
A lot of weird, nonsensical crap happens in Amateur Boxing. Particularly at heavyweight where there is usually little to no competition. So many rigged fights and flukes. I don't read too much into it TBH. Lawrence Okolie for example is a useless moron who can't box to save his life and look what he supposedly did as an amateur.
