I’ve got a Baja King I’ve restored from a box of rc cars I bough of someone I used to work with, they had been sat in his garage for years. Decided to fix it up for my nephew, the chassis was cracked where the rear arms mount to it so I’ve put a new one on I and fitted bearings throughout. I’ve given it a drive around the garden to test it out, definitely needs a bit of lift off to get it to turn in otherwise it just understeers. It was quite fun just doing laps around the garden on a track I mowed part way through cutting the grass. Great video once again 👍
Hey Andy, this one started life in a box of bits and pieces too! It was originally a touring car but I went through the buggy conversion. They are a fun chassis and I think a little extra power and a new set of electronics and this will be tearing up the OR next year. Thanks so much for watching pal 🙌🏻
@@theoagrc Yep it was quite fun to drive, mines still got the old friction shocks on. They will be fine for my nephew though, it will be his first proper RC buggy so hopefully he will enjoy it. I've also just dug out my old fighter buggy rx from the garage which I had as a kid, it's going to get restored to run again around the garden and also a fun stock silver can race my local club are going to put on for a laugh.
@@theoagrcyep they are pretty straightforward to work on too so not particularly challenging getting them up and running again. I'll try and get my daughter playing with them too.
@TheAndyMaan it is slightly harder work getting daughter’s into the hobby. Mine enjoys the odd run and contributing to the channel 🙌🏻 Good luck with the restore pal and enjoy the hobby with your Daughter 👍🏻
Cheers Brent. I like the look of this buggy which is why I needed one in the collection. I think there is more to come from the TL01B but it will have to wait until 2025 now
It gets better and better with each week doesn’t it! I am convinced that is why records tumble during the season. I like the look of this as it is classic buggy to me. Little off season tune up and it will be back for 2025 and I think a slightly better performance 😁
Cheers J. I like it which is why I wanted to get one for the fleet. I don’t like the electronics and the motor so a tune up during the off season is required
Off to a good start, Craig! Somehow I don't think this one will stay at the top for long though! It's a cool looking buggy but I agree it probably didn't have Tamiya's top designers working on the chassis! 😅 Great car to have in the fleet all the same. Some nifty driving going on there pal! Keep 'em coming! :D
Cheers Mark! I agree it looks great but the chassis is a step back from the DF01 for sure. However, some new electronics and I think we’ll see a better 2025 performance from this one
Aus edition? Haha. Hopefully it doesn't pull a "Raygun" and dance right off the OR! Lol! Great video, as always, Craig. Although I did miss your Voice Over during the laps. It feels like I'm right there with you some times. Haha.
I like them and think they are pretty cool looking! It did pretty well out there and I liked it just bulldogged right over the piping a few times! Might not be the most graceful or elegant but it grunted its way around there well!!!
It absolutely did Addam. I needs some love during the off season for 2025. New electrical components and I think it will do better. The chassis seems pretty bulletproof
Nice work as usual Craig, I think someone is having a laugh and installed magnets in the course tubes that seem to attract the car. It does seem very overly attracted to them 😂. Btw which action cams are you using to film? I'm thinking of getting a DJi Action 3 as they seem pretty good.
Thanks for the lovely comment Tony. All of my footage is using old iPhones plus my current one. I think one of them is down to an old iPhone 6 still being put to good use 😁 I also have a Insta GO which I use for some of the slow motion shots as the AI is great for making it super slow. The whole car needs an electrical overhaul during the winter as the parts are all really old. I will use them somewhere else one day but this OR runner needs something better
Great buggy! I beat the crap out of mine on a weekly basis!! A few upgrades but not that many will make it a great contender. Do those shock pistons have slots in them instead of holes? If they do then run a light grease in them instead of oil. All metal dog bones and a steel pinion gear (19t) is all she needs and of course a nice brushless system if you like. Shouldnt have to mention it but bearings if she dont already have them.
Great to know this chassis can take a beating pal. Bearings are in there but the shocks need a tune. I have been looking for some upgrade parts but I have not fully committed to anything yet. I think this one will be back and higher up the leaderboard next year
I feel the chassis tweaks to make it a buggy were pretty loose! However you can see the influence this chassis had from the DF01/TA02 and how it influenced the MF01X and inspired the TT chassis. Always nice to play about with the variants on the Tamiya timeline.

@TheAndyMaan it is great to restore them and especially to inspire the next generation of RC fans 🙌🏻

Good run Craig it my not be a speed demon but does look good on the track

I wish they would make the tl01s again turning and buggies.
Hey Brad, I would rather see the TA02 again in a few variants
@theoagrc both should be done and all the Variations of the Tao 1-8 again.
7.27 isn't bad for it's first time around the OR 👍. It will be interesting to see how the other contestants fare againt it.
Thanks Toby. It is a good marker for the others but with the DF03 and the TT02B in this class it doesn’t really stand a chance this year
Man that's a noisy little bugger isn't it?!
A lovely looking vintage buggy there Craig.... Done well to!
Great driving this time round buddy. 😊 👍 👍 👍

Even if it ultimately doesn’t hold its spot, this buggy looks cool!
Nice one Craig!👍😊

Nice one Craig, I quite like the oldskool body on this one, nice colour too😁, can't wait to see the Durga go round the Orchard 😀
Hey Carl, you have a few months to wait to see the Durga out on the OR bud but it is worth the wait 😁 I also like the body on this buggy 😎
Nice run and a pretty decent performance considering it’s condition. The Baja Champ is a good looker.😎👍
I agree Sean. This one had a clean up but I reused the electronics to save some cost and it backfired!! I expect it will do a little better in 2025

I knew I forgot to do something this week!! This is what happens when you edit in a hurry 🤣😂 I need to stack a few vids over the next few weeks!
Australian Edition, nice one Craig 😁 It did alright 👍 It's an odd looking one, but as (almost) every Tamiya, it has its charm 😉🤝
Hey Gabriel, thanks for the comment bud. I think this one will be back stronger in future years but the marker is 7.27 for the others

If ya ever do a 4wd vs 2wd using that buggy stock with a stock holiday buggy, that would be a good time trial... Buggy looks great Craig...
Great idea Bob. I will look into that pal 👍🏻
Its a great looking buggy, if a little bit noisey 🤔😂
Cheers Richard. The old electrics and these shocks are not doing it any favours!
Okay, it's the first in the board. I don't know this car. So I cannot say anything about it and wait what the other cars'll do.
Thanks for watching Dirk. It is a good marker for the others to beat. The car needs some new electronics for next season
It does look good! A few tweaks perhaps next year :). Cheers
Hey Mauzy, I think it will do better with a new set of electronics and some oil in the shocks!! It will be back for 2025
nice looking car . didn’t do to bad 👍
Cheers Dom. I love the style on this one.
Hey man ! I enjoyed that. I have flirted with picking one up. Performance was lacking a bit. Still on the want list.
Don’t be put off too much as the old electronics and motor let it down. I will swap it all out in the winter and we’ll have another blast!

Agreed, looks fun but you can obviously see they weren't really trying with the design

@@theoagrc Yep, I have learned quite a bit of history just watching yours and Rex's RC channel
