Really like the box artwork on all of Tamiya's kits. Still running the 1/10 VW Beetle kit I built in the late 90's. Not a single broken part, even with regular use and abuse. Just changed the wheels and swapped the stock 20-turn motor with a 12-turn unit, ditching the mechanical speed control for an old-school hi-tec esc.
It's a wonderful hobby you're into there. Been involved since 1979. Stopped early 1980's. Returned with a more serious intent 2008. I've seen racers leave the hobby for various reasons, then similarly return in their more senior years, often with grown up offspring taking up where father left off; only performing better.! Once it's in your blood, you never stop. 😂
26:06, Jake, I'm going to have to correct you (especially for those who are unfamiliar). It's so called glow or alcohol fuel that engine - believed to be 3.5cc - runs on. Fuel consists primarily of nitro methane 16% to possibly 25% to which the remainder are additives such as castor oil, methanol.. Nitro percentage is regulated at BRCA, EFRA, ROAR, FEMCA competition level rc racing. Example: max percentage nitro for 1/8 on-road is restricted to 16%. Anything tested over at scrutineering is a breach of the regs., resulting in disqualification of that racer and zero meeting results. 1/5 scale i.c. cars run on petrol and use a spark plug as opposed to a glow plug to ignite their fuel at combustion. Similar to a chain-saw engine.
What classic racing series do you take part in? Me and my brother try to get out a couple times a year to watch the CSCC events that are put on. We've been to Silverstone and Donington Park this year. There's a few short uploads on my channel of the Thunder Saloons racing, I was even lucky enough to get a video of them leaving the paddock with the classic Jags going onto the track for qualification. If I remember correctly Big John qualified 1st in his White RS500 Cosworth but had gremlins in his driveline and ruined his race. The videos aren't the best quality but I don't care, it's a nice memory for me and my brother.
From memory there is also a Taisan (92164) Castrol (50447) and possiblyReebok liveried R32 body sets. In the old books in the back there was a parts section. This had all sorts of spare body sets that didn’t come with regular kits. This can definitely become an expensive hobby for sure. I’m currently racing Tamiya class cars, 17.5 TC and Fronti also both Xray cars. I did try the Mugen FWD that was a winning car from last years BRCA. It was still setup from its last round and it was superb but it didn’t make sense swapping from a new X4F24.
Hi Jake. I do a lot of work for Diamondbrite and run an RC Channel. I did not even know you were into RC until recently. That is an amazing collection.
Fascinating and oh so tempting. My first r/c was a 1972 Mardave Saudia Williams which charged up with a 12 volt car battery. I later transferred the innards to an r/c Vosper Thorneycroft E boat.
Superb Jake. Your video took me back to 2001 to 2010 when I raced 1/10 Touring Cars. I ran a Schumacher Mi2 EC with Alfa Romeo 156 & 159 HPI/Hot Bodies shells. I also built a Tamiya 500 Abarth and raced that one for fun. I was never brilliant at it but I enjoyed it and it was literally like running your own little one car BTCC team but in 1/10 scale. I was team boss, mechanic, driver and chief tea maker on club race nights. Happy Days...I still have them all. 😎👍
Did a Double -Take when I got this YT recommendation... my first from the Channel, -& it's 'The' Jake Hill! -Subscribed & Great Collection! :) Bloody Awesome, a fan of BTCC and Tamiya all my life, worked in motorsport, and race 1/10th touring cars too, it's just Excellent to see it's OK to do both! ;) Good Luck at Oulton Park, ..and Eastbourne as well now Dude! This has left me Smiling, more please ... :)
Great stuff. I recently fell back into this rabbit hole earlier this year. Bought a used but upgraded TA-02 chassis from Japan, completely dismantled and cleaned it, then sourced the R32 body and HKS decal set. Man, that body was a lot of tricky decal work lol I also still had this TL-01 chassis (the Ford Lightning kit), the first kit I ever built back when I was like 12, and had an Evo 6 body on it, basically poorly painted. Dismantled and refreshed that whole chassis, properly painted the body, then sourced a Tommi Makinen livery decal set. Also a lot of work lol More cars I did, other stuff I still want. I'll spare you the rambling.
Great video Jake and thanks for sharing. You have a brilliant collection of RCs there and there is nothing more chilled than a RC build after a long day of work! Good luck on the track 👍🏻
Awesome video. Lovely collection. I still have my first RC chassis. It's a TA-01 that happens to be the same age as you! The kit came with an Escort Cosworth shell and I also bought the Mondeo BTCC shell and wheels. The shells are long gone now though. I now have a TT-02 that I race in the Tamiya Tourers at Sidcup. Rochester RC have just opened their track I Chatham so that could be a great place for you to run yours. I'm hoping to get my other TT-02, a Type S, up there soon.
I bought the Tamiya Mondeo FF01 when it was released in '94. I bought it because I'd never seen a FWD RC car before. The Mondeo shell lasted one race night, which was a bummer as I spent some time painting and stickering it up. I ended up buying every upgrade available (when I was on holiday in Australia in '97. Thought the parts would be cheaper there, as Japan wasn't far away. They weren't), and then slapped a Volvo 850 estate BTCC shell on it and raced it for a few years. Brilliant car, but it ate front tyres for fun. Still got it, and it's mint.
Nice collection 😮 So many iconic RC cars and liveries. Talking about famous race car, I would add a Group C 787b (if you can). We can hear the passion in your voice 😊 Thanks for sharing 🤝
Awesome! I said to you at Thruxton that I was missing your Tamiya videos....well, you have certainly delivered!!! What a great video and fabulous insight in to your incredible collection. Bravo Jake 👏 👏
That's epic dude !!! I do love me a R/C car. My current favourites are my 1/10 1997 Laguna BTCC and my custom made 1/10 1998 Laguna BTCC. Both are on Tamiya chassis. Infact my 98 Laguna takes pride of place on my living room TV stand 👍
Re black Axia Skyline: what made it special was that it was raced by the future Mr. Le Mans in the 1992 season, who finished 3rd in points (title was given to the driver with the most miles covered, then to his co-driver, then the next car down). I used to own a 1:43 kit of the same car
Awesome collection! I still have my cars from when i was a kid, including the Nissan 300ZX IMSA GTO. Is that car the holy grail or something? I've never seen another one.
Re Calsonic Skyline: it was 1990 when it won (by Hoshino), its debut season and again in 1993 (by Kageyama). 1991 was won by the Unisia Jecs car (by Hasemi) and again in 1993
Great collection Jake and good to hear your enjoying Frontie. If MICC is on this winter and your there, I look forward to racing you :) Your collection has inspired me and I fancy getting some BTCC (super tourers). but struggling to find these in the usual UK hobby shops. Can you recommend some good shops? Thanks
Great video! Love your passion for the old JDM/gran tourismo race cars, I am a fellow fan and skyline enthusiast😂 Routing for you for that BTCC title, more weekends like last weekend!
One of us, one of us, one... Nah but seriously, cool collection. I keep seeing you appear on the Facebook groups - none of the rest of us have quite as cool of a day job to supplement our toy car hobby though!!
You've gotta check out the Ignition Models and AutoArt Gr.A R32 1/18th diecasts! Sure they're not as interactive, but I do love having them on my desk.
It's my cup of tea. Lol.I see you race the RC. You should get some m chassis. And the mb01 chassis and a bt01 chassis I know they have problems with some of those but I'm sure there's a way to fix the problems.
most folk I'd say who follow you or motorsport have at sometime had a rc car. Don't apologise for your knowledge of what some think are toys/ they are not/ but we all know that. I subscribe due to this video ❤
Years ago I bought a .21 picco and made the mistake of mounting it on a geared chassis. Went through so many gears due to stripping. Should have bought a belt driven chassis.
If you don’t mind me asking where are you finding these kits and bodies? I can never find anything on the auction sites. Are you just unloading the federal reserves on Buyee??
The ultimate question has to be, does Miss/Mrs Jake Hill get your love for RC cars? Or is it a case of, "Jake's gone out to play with his toys"? 😁 - Scott
Haha to answer your question Scott, I put up with it and they stay in one room in the house. Jake questioned my number of mugs yesterday but they take up a lot less space...😂
@@hannahwilley1423 I reckon this calls for a Hannah take over of the Jake Hill Racing Channel for a "My Mug Tour" video as we all need a good mug (or 9...) in our lives. 😁 Who needs BTCC content when there's classic cars, Tamiya RC cars and coming soon, the highly anticipated mug collection tour all here on the Jake Hill Racing Channel. 😂 - Scott

Hi. Nice collection of Tamiya cars. Jake. The best year from 1990 to 1997. All the Japanese livery cars. Cheers from Canada
Great to see the enthusiasm and someone who has an interest in the sport beyond their own personal involvement.

Looks like that Calsonic Nissan is getting built! Well Done Jake, BTCC CHAMPION!!!
Beautiful collection, Tamiya is really the best for collecting accurate models
Thoroughly enjoyed this video, awesome collection of Tamiya RC cars, loved them all! Great to get see them.
Now the winning Tamiya Primera build!! Congratulations Jake.. So well deserved!
We're all behind you!!! You'll be building the calsonic primera soon!!! 😃🤟
Honestly I would love that. I really hope it happens
That Calsonic Nissan Primera could be coming out of its box if everything goes to plan! Best of luck this weekend.
Great collection, love the enthusiasm.
That's a fine collection there, some real rarities and beauties in the mix.
