We`ve had a Mk XIV treat this week, Rahmi, Dusan, Inner nerd and now Alex too. An absolute embarrassment of riches. Super finish Alex, love the metallic scheme.

The pilot of that beautiful MK XIV look tired. A lot of missions had been flown .Great work . I used to build models my 1/48 ,1/32 ,and 1/24 scale all companies .

A really super job Alex. The Humbrol metallics did you no favours even with that lovely gloss black primer! Like to see this one again using better paint!

You're right about the panel lines Alex...I build 1/72 mostly. I stopped buying Airfix kits because of how out of scale their panel lines are. Nice job on it just the same. The cockpit looks great.

After watching a very negative review /build of this kit . Your video is a breath of fresh air . Your clearly enthusiastic and positive about this kit . you obviously had the skill to apply the wings correctly to the fuselage . Just to say the Mk xiv had both wing versions standard and LF . Johnny Johnson had the standard wing version before the war ended . Probably easier to remove the tip than to put it on if you make the full wing version . Also the fuel tank cover is not fully flush on the real Spitfire ( which rather spoils it's beautiful lines ) I think this is why its been done as a separate part . As if it is moulded you cannot represent the gappy appearance of the real thing . I gather Tamiya has done this on the new MK1 tooling ; perhaps more successfully .

Nice job on the silver scheme! I'm thinking of this scheme too as I've already done a Grey/Green scheme on a Mk.XVI. I've yet to even start the build yet though so lots of time to decide lol
Wish you luck for it! You Will enjoy the cockpit its fantástic! Just pay atention to the air intakes. I got the feeling that it doesn t fit like if it wasn t made for this kit. If you could then get back to me and give me your take on this i would apreciate

The wings don't come clipped because clipped wings were not an inherent characteristic of the Mk XIV, even the FR version. The wing tips on a Spitfire could be changed from clipped to standard, or the reverse, in about 30 minutes. The kit therefor gives the option to be built clipped, as was most common for FR.Mk XIVs, or with standard tips for rarer examples.

To be honest,the Airfix sprues still looks like they are from the seventies,the only great kit from them i have built recently are the 1:24 Hellcat and that is GREAT.

@@AlexModeling I am not trying to downtalk Airfix, my fondest memories are from my childhood and Airfix models, they were not expensive and they still are fun to build. 😀

Sorry Alex, but the ten mile rule is just a cop out! The better you pa int a figure, the better it I.s going to look, at ANY distance!
First, forget the blue tack on a cocktail stick, drill a hole under the pilot's bum, insert a long paperclip wire, cut off so you can stick it into either a bottle cork or a pin vice, and use that to hold your pilot!
You've done a great job over the model, why put in all that effort over everything else only to scimp on the guy at the controls? 😊

Fine work but I think the decals are not correct, on the rudder it should have been with the narrow white line, the same goes with the decal on the fuselage, a yellow outer ring should be there... otherwise a nice build.

nice build and kit but Airfix wasted a golden opportunity to make this beast of a Spitfire in 1/24 scale, such a shame as there are no larger scale low back XIV's out there

some Mk14s had full wingtips but most where clipped
That's why you don't decant paints for models unless it model car builders that's there thing! Not armor use AK xtreme metal the bright Alloy and the black base! Was that a gloss blue you used for the uniform? If it was matt it would have looked better there face was normally mucky anyway lol
Wait for the new G force kit you have to add your own extra 2 machine guns as kit only comes with 2! Pretty sloppy for Airfix!

Great video, really helps for those of us just starting. I'm preparing to build my first kit, and I think I'm going to start with either a Spitfire or a P51-D Mustang. Do you recommend any specific kits for a new builder? I'm older, and have tools and airbrush. I think it best to start off with maybe an easier kit that still has some nice detail and good fit. I'd be grateful for any recommendations. It seems there are so many kits and brands to choose from.
Also, what scale would be best for a new builder? I'd like something big enough to have good details, but small enough that it's easier to handle. My initial thought was 1:48 scale. What are your thoughts?

Yeah - Thanks, that is in line with my thinking, your confirmation is appreciated. Would you think that 1:48 is a good scale? I fear that 1:72 might get too frustrating with the tiny parts and detail painting.
@@silentstormstudios 1/48 kits can get kinda expensive, especially if its tamiya or airfix, but the tamiya 1/48 a6m3 is at a decent price and fits together pretty good
Yeah - It looks like 1:48 scale kits can be had for $20-$30, which I’m ok with if it’s a good kit. I can get a Tamiya, Airfix or even and Eduard weekend kit in that range. I’ll be taking my tine with it, and there’s so many resources online to learn how to do things right that I’m not too concerned about completely messing it up.
