    I like MRH as well and like to order some things from them BUT so many of the herbs can EASILY be grown at home for a fraction of the cost. Especially, when you consider the herbs that you will use time and time again! Such as Nettle, Comfrey, Yarrow, and Elder! I do understand that not everyone has the time, space or will to grow or their need may exceed what do grow. Thankfully, I was able to dedicate a beautiful section of my garden just for my herbs (my tea & healing garden) and most are perennial...Nettle, Comfrey, Yarrow, St. John's Wort, Mullein, Goldenrod, Elecampane, Hyssop, Wild Bergamot, Lemon Balm, Peppermint, Spearmint, Stevia, Lavender, Chamomile, Calendula, Feverfew, Echinacea, Thyme, Elderberry Trees, Roses, Blueberry, Strawberry, Raspberry and many more. I use as much fresh and harvest and dry what I need to get me through the winter. I can't tell you how much money I've saved, plus I KNOW exactly what went into their care. I only buy things that I can't grow for one reason or another. Also, they definitely overcharge for their essential oils - they are good BUT I save buying top grade, bulk, certified organic and premium EOs from reputable distributors. Again, while I like MRH and have hauls here and there, I do believe a lot of people get caught up on the name and the association of Rosemary Gladstar to MRH.

      Very cool!!! I grow as much as I possibly can, but weirdly enough so many of the super common herbs (like nettles, for instance) actually don't grow well where I live! (Desert southwest.) Lemon balm, too! Lol! These are two things I hear everyone else say will become invasive, but I absolutely can't grow them. I do mint, catnip, calendula, sage, rosemary, moringa, jalapeño peppers (perennial for me, and I need to see if I can get a cayenne bush to go perennial for me), Jamaican sorrel (Hibiscus sabdariffa), aloe, grapes (the leaves are awesome circulatory medicine), and a Mexican blue elderberry because the Sambucus nigra won't grow in my area either. I so agree with you that if they can people need to grow as much as possible! My only wild medicinal weeds around here (that I know of) are shepherds purse, purslane, wild mustard and dandelion, though dandelion doesn't even grow in my yard. I have to go grab some seeds and spread them. I keep meaning to and then forgetting! If I head up north I can wildcraft mullein and yarrow, but only if I get the timing right because I won't overharvest. Chaparral grows in huge abundance here, among many other medicinal plants not many people seem to talk about because much of the current mainstream herbal knowledge is based in a different climate. I take courses from an herbalist in New Mexico who talks a lot about the desert plants, and I want to learn even more! Your garden sounds incredible!!!
      Now I was thinking MRH essential oils were super reasonably priced. Where on earth do you find them cheaper? Thank you for the comment! 🥰

    I was using nettles for hot flashes: 1 ounce nettles in a quart jar boiling water poured over it and left overnight to drink the next day. I just learned to deal with the taste because for me nothing made it taste better. But I learned hot flashes do not end when you're through menopause. I talked to my Dr and he recommended Black Cohosh but he did say some say it does not work at all. Well it was worth a try and I've not had a hot flash yet and I was so melancholy and weepy which I really did not like and that is gone to! I think I will try alternating them for a few months at a time now just to see it my body was getting immune to the nettles for using them for so long. Just don't suffer to long with a symptom because there are just to many things that are helpful if one thing does not work well enough. Just had my second bout with the "C" not sure what variant but this was much different and half as bad. The first one took me down for the count but this one I could still do all my animal farm chores just slower. :)) But I'm much older than you. Blessings to you and your family!

    Great video! I'm fortunate to be living in where I'm able to grow nettles and comfrey. Years ago I was taking Nettles for a health issue and after a few weeks noticed there was a change in the intensity and frequency of my hot flashes. After two months they were a thing of the past. At the time I was drinking a daily 1 quart infusion of nettles. I had been using wild yam before that with no noticeable difference.
    During my experience with Covid my naturopath prescribed two Herb Pharm tinctures; Viralattack and Urinary System Support. I noticed a difference right away.
    I've use comfrey and while you can use it internally, as you mentioned, you need to be very careful, otherwise you may have a horrendous explosion coming out of both ends!!!! Aside from medicinal uses it is also an excellent biodynamic fertilizer as is Nettles.
    I love Mountain Rose Herbs and I'm so happy that you took the time to share this information with us. Be well!

      Oh, my gosh, I'm so excited about the nettles! I'm going to start drinking it today. I guess I'll have to get used to the taste. I assume you did it as a simple, right? Like only nettles?

    • @kfitz192
      @kfitz192 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@VeganPrepper Yes, as a simple, 1 cup of plant matter in a quart covered wirh almost boiling water, steep for a minimum of 4 hours. Strain and enjoy. I drink mine straight up however it can be seasoned with a bit of salt but it does not lend itself for seasoning with honey or sugar. You will notice changes within 3 to 5 weeks.
      I hate wasting the plant matter so I have taken to dumping it all in the Vitamix and using as a base for green smoothies. Yum!

    Just stumbled across your channel and your personality + style of teaching is awesome girlfriend! Subscribed immediately! As far as the term gypsy goes, it was derogatory term dubbed by persecutors of the Roma People, (correct term), many many years ago. The Roma people were cast out pretty much anywhere they went. Some countries even had laws to kill on site. A very hardworking, resourceful people, who were forced to steal to keep their families from starving at times like these & then called thieves for it. They’d much rather work for their keep than steal it though. Pretending to be another culture altogether, never taking roots, as to not be found out. Hence the Caravans/wagon, always on the go situation. Today’s Roma people have traded their mobile homes for modern versions such as RV’s, and are still in persecution. My great grandma was a descendant of the Roma, and unfortunately when she came to America with her mother and father (my maternal great great grandmother and grandfather), they buried our past seeking a better future. I didn’t find anything out about it until after her death (96 years old). I too made the mistake of using the word gypsy, so don’t worry about that. Hey!, when we know better, we do better. Hope that helps and I look forward to seeing your channel grow!

    Cashew yoghurt ( recipe from Sproutman's Kitchen Garden Cookbook written by Steve Meyerowitz)
    1 Cup cashews
    1 Cup pure water
    Yield: 2 cups
    Blend a cup of cashews with a cup of pure water. Blend mixture thoroughly until smooth- keep adding water, until you have the consistency of heavy cream. Pour it into a pint jar and cover with cheesecloth, napkin or Sprout bag. This affords the transfer of air and gases. Set your jar in a warm place where the yogurt temperature can heat up to 90 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit. It will be ready in approximately 6 to 8 hours or when it tastes tart and sour.
    You can also use sprouted sunflower seeds. Soak 1 cup of seeds for 8 hours and sprout them for two days maximum. Then proceed as usual following the yogurt recipe.
    You can also use sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds, pecans, walnuts and filberts. But the easiest are the cashews followed by the sunflowers.
    I make cashew yoghurt in the summer. The rest of the time I take a can of Native Forest (any kind that's creamy) coconut milk, pour it into the vitamix and add the contents of two vegan probiotic capsules. Pour into a jar, cover and let it sit until it's tart and tangy. You can mix by hand but I seem to get better results when I just give it a really super quick whir in vita.

    How do you make your tea blend? The one and only time I had nettles it was so bitter. Would love to try again

    • @VeganPrepper
      @VeganPrepper  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Nettles is not my favorite taste, either! I usually mix it with random nutritious herbs, one part each of something like nettles, oatstraw, raspberry leaf, lemon balm and others. Usually only 4-5 herbs at most. Sometimes I will increase the nettles and make it more like half of the entire blend. I feel that the combination of nettles and raspberry leaf (50/50) tastes like a beautiful smooth black tea, so sometimes that's all I put in the tea.

    What book did you refer to when speaking about nettles?

    • @VeganPrepper
      @VeganPrepper  4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I can't remember exactly what I said about them in this video, but my primary references for much of what I've learned have been The Gift of Healing Herbs by Robin Rose Bennett and Medicinal Herbs, a Beginner's Guide by Rosemary Gladstar. I also like Rosemary Gladstar's big recipe book, Herbal Recipes for Vibrant Health. Also her Herbal Healing for Women book. I know it's a lot, but nettles are so good for so much. Richo Cech wrote in his book, Making Plant Medicine, when he listed uses for nettles, he simply wrote "Uses: legion." And that about sums it up. If it was specifically relating to circulation and the capillaries, that was from the Robin Rose Bennett book, specifically pages 70-74. If anything could be called a superfood, my humble opinion is that nettles are it.

    Love your herbal talks. I'll try to make this story short but I had a dog who had a nick at the very tip of his ear that would not stop bleeding. The vet would get it to stop and then my dog would shake his head and my house would again look like a crime scene. I got some comfrey cream and put it on my dogs ear and wrapped his head. After three days when I unwrapped his ears, a black chunk of something fell onto the floor. I realized it was the nicked part of his ear that fell off and his actual ear had new pink healthy skin forming and the skin never broke open or bled again. I will never be without comfrey again. Also I'm going through hot flashes and red clover seems to be working, along with valerian root before bed to keep the flashes from happening during the night. How long do you steep your "Berry Beneficial" blend?

    • @VeganPrepper
      @VeganPrepper  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ooh, so cool!!! And I just realized I didn't put the recipes down there yet, lol. I'll go do that. I steep for at least 45 minutes to an hour. Thank you for that story and for the tip on the red clover and valerian! I thankfully don't deal with it at night. It's more like 3-4 in the afternoon. Ugh. LOL. So cool that you were able to help your dog!!! I will absolutely be adding a comfrey oil and salve to my next herbal medicine stocking day!

    Years ago I would make a paste of slippery elm bark powder and a few drops of a tincture( I cannot for the life of me remember what the tincture was and cannot find my original source for the “recipe”). My husband was very prone to getting boils on the back of his legs and I would make this paste and put it on the spot, cover with a bandaid and by morning it would be completely gone. It was great. If anyone has done this and can tell me what tincture it could be, please let me know.

    • @VeganPrepper
      @VeganPrepper  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow! That's an awesome story. I don't know the tincture, but I will say that I have seen some wonderful results using a calendula salve on a boil. I have seen it make the boil disappear and I have seen it take it to the point where it will drain on its own. Either way, it seems to heal them very well with regular application.

      It's not hard! You can find recipes to set yourself up for success or just experiment a little at a time. With "1 part" in the recipe being only a tablespoon, for instance. If that blend is good then next time you make it let the "part" be 1/2 cup or 1 cup for a larger batch. 💖

      @VeganPrepper PLEASE, do not take my auto-assessment (nurse) as my being critical. It is just a “thing” that never goes away. I’m concerned for you. And, wish I had more knowledge to help. I think I had it in dec of 2019. I was sicker than I HAVE EVER BEEN in my life and it was a week that I can hardly remember. I have not been “ back to normal “ since that week. It was like a fuse was tripped. I already had a tiny knowledge of old home remedies from a grandma and a friends abuela 👵. Like onions, garlic ( chopped slightly heated in Pan then put in old clean handkerchief wet with castor oil ). Apply to chest. Onion “draws” so does castor oil.
      Hot water bottle on top.
      Ginger honey ( raw unfiltered) lemon tea, harvesting dandelion root/ greens. That was about it.
      I literally came out of a week long sickness ( 3 teens just turned 16 at the time) before being sick, I was able to fast walk a mile or two and barely break a sweat, going immediately to not getting a 1/4 of a mile gasping for breath.
      THIS WAS MONTHS before the news broke and I had no idea about what was coming.
      You seem to be very knowledgeable. I’m sure you will be 100% in no time.
