I'm a clarinetist. I've been playing since the fourth grade. Recently, I've picked up the tenor because it's something my dad played and I've always loved the sound. It's a different beast than the clarinet... But this inspires me to keep it up. Thank you.

charlez360 what prompted my input below was that when I went surfing looking for more of what I really liked about your tenor sax sound, I have so far found none, for all of your videos are either alto sax or tenor sax with a metal mouthpiece where neither provide the elements which caused me to go looking for more of that sound. I hope this encourages you to do more with your rod rubber tenor saxophone mouthpiece.
proSpiritofTruth Haha! In fact it did. I hated those metal mouthpieces on the tenor saxophone, it's part of the reason I switched more to alto (because I liked the sound more). Maybe some day next week I'll bring my tenor to a practice session and see what kind of sound I can get out of it :)

Saxophones have the voice going for them or they have nothing to offer. Your tone on this song is your gift, especially the rod rubber mouthpiece. Forget your metal tenor mouthpiece and the alto altogether and concentrate on perfecting this sound. Keep your tenor also, and do not play around with anything else until you are in no danger of going past and losing sight of your best asset. You need the sensitivity of this mouthpiece. Try this sound out on really good classical music also, because it IS a voice you know. If you just think of popularity or commercial success you may end up selling this gift for anything else than fulfilment. God bless you in your insight, recognition and gratitude for what you have so far. Do not forget to do everything with God's guidance and never forget "The Lord gives and the Lord takes and always love the Giver more than the gift."
HI i have stagg 77st and i think i need better sound tenor saxophone, but i dont have possibility to try any before i buy, i would have to buy them from online, what sax would be next step from stagg? Also i play it with v16 vandorren mouth piece, it sound ok, low A is litte harder to play with it, could you recommend others? :)
Janne Flinck If you could spend US$1195 plus air freight and possible duty, get a phospher copper bronze Rare Hardware Co Ltd tenor saxophone in the Selmer Paris Super80SeriesIII design, it is a lovely horn, and if you want to get a second hand tenor go for a Yamaha YTS-275 Student sax with a Yamaha 4Cmouthpiece using Vandoren Java 2 reeds but as soon as you are strong enough the 2.5s have more to the sound they make. When you can afford it, a second hand or new Morgan Jazz 7L rod rubber mouthpiece is the best I know of for the ultimate facing as well, using the same reed. the Francois louis bootstrap neckstrap or the new Vandoren shoulder strap prototype which feels like a neck strap rather than a shoulder strap is a good thing and Rovener leather ligatures to fit any of your mouthpiece choices, so long as you get the right Rovener to fit your moutpiece would really set you up. By the way, the nicest sound of chaz360 sounds like a Yamaha YTS-275 tenor sax using a Yamaha 4C mouthpiece and a Vandoren Java Green 2 reed, to my imagination.
