    Don't forget to leave a like if you enjoyed this video!
    In 2017, a video of mine in which I was handling this tarantula went viral. Many people were intrigued and fascinated by this spider, so I decided to film me handling it a second time for everyone to see, now with more footage and better quality. The first video was actually filmed in 2016; now, two years later, the spider has noticeably grown.
    Please, refer to the disclaimer at the beginning of the video for answers to common questions and concerns.
    These are the links provided in the disclaimer:
    - In the absence of available antivenom, bites by Poecilotheria spp. can cause a serious therapeutic challenge: www.ncbi.nlm.ni....
    - Poecilotheria species: underestimated theraphosids of medical importance: www.ncbi.nlm.ni....
    - Poecilotheria regalis have a potential medically significant bite: www.ncbi.nlm.ni....
    Update (17th of September, 2019): the articles linked above seem to have been removed from PubMed.

    To the people out there who are new to the Tarantula hobby, do NOT handle this species or any T from the Poecilotheria Genus. They are Old World Tarantulas that are usually very skittish and occasionally defensive and will bite if they feel threatened, and the venom from their bite will have you laying on the ground crying in pain and a good couple weeks of random stomach cramps, nausea and vomiting and painful muscle spasms, i know because i own an adult female P. Metallica and she tagged me on the hand while i was changing her water dish, it was my fault for startling her while she was in a bad mood usually she’s just skittish and runs away. This beautiful girl in the video is a rare exception, probably the most chill Pokie i’ve ever seen, only handle your T’s if you absolutely have to, or at least know their temperament if you really want to.

      same with me but my storys a lil different, i found a website that sold them and i didnt believe that was a thing, spiders in the post??? thats crazy right?, i saw a "avicularia versicolor"(now known as caribina versicolor) it was this tiny little neon blue spider, i brought it and it just set me off into the same fascination. no longer scared of spiders, just wary and respectful of them now:P the versi did pass away after a year, i like to think i did well with it as my first spider, but i now have, a small communal of 4 balfouri, GBB its now juvi/sub adult raised from sling, Togo starburst(pet shop was keeping it on woodchip in a terrestrial enclosure when its semi-arboreal and needs climbing space so i felt bad n took em home), chilian rose (pet shop not knowing their shit again)
      ive had really bad luck with metalicas, first DOA, 2nd died day after arrival, third lasted a full 1.5yrs it made it to about 4" its beautiful colours were shiny as ever, then it lost a leg and proceeded to have bad molts till it met its mortality with nature.
      however! i have learned much and love the hobby, i will try again with the pokie one day :P

      Even seasoned tarantula keepers would not want this species crawling on any part of their body, let alone their face lol! This particular spider is an exception to that rule, poecilotheria species are known for being very defensive and their venom packs a major punch, probably putting you in hospital for a short stay if bitten, and they are known to try biting quite often. I've never seen anyone try handling this species on purpose until now, it is not normally a done thing.

    A video with warning and real info o_O thats rare. Thou, it may be near extinction in nature... Thanks to keepers, its near impossible for this spieces to go extinct as its rather poppular. Its one of case when animal is much safer in captivity then in nature sadly :( Even if pokey falls, they can somewhat glide + arboreals are quite good at landing. Falling problem is more with terrestrials who have "bulkyer" build.

    OMFG. IT'S STUNNING. ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL.
    I'm an arachnophobic who started watching T videos to get over my fear and now I am confident I have enough knowledge to keep one. I know about the danger of wild caught prey animals, parasites, temperature, space, how to sex them, molting, when to feed after molting, broken fangs,superglue injuries and the risk of causing molt problems due to that, the importance of water , mold, " bad eaters" , slings / juvies/ adult behaviour changes, the danger of mating and when a male is definitely too small for a female, even if mature ......
    The importance of burrowing space. "A happy T is a hiding T."...what it means when they seal their burrow and when to get worried when they don't show up for too long...
    BUT the ones that interest me the most are the ones that definitely aren't considered beginner species. Not defensive OW's.
    Mostly arborials, because they are more delicate, slender than most of the terrestrial ones which can appear sometimes even a bit "plump"...especially when they keep their legs together and chill on a tree stump they almost "disappear"!
    Pokies being one of them.
    I wouldn't ever try to handle a T., with maybe one exception: an Arizona blonde aka Aponophelma Chalcodes, which I've seen - even wild ones - being very chill - and even then maybe only once or twice in my life: to finally get over my fear once and for all. I consider them like fish.
    To watch and enjoy watching only.
    But God what would I give for a P. Vittata, Rufilata or Regalis. They totally blend in like an H. Maculata but they are said to be less defensive? Of course all of them are fast as hell and one mistake can kill the T and send you to hospital. ....but hell are they gorgeous. I guess it will stay a dream. I can't afford one anyways.

    • @janedoex1398
      @janedoex1398 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      But maybe their venom is the only reason they didn't end up as a snack or a common pet...
      Sadly their home gets destroyed, every second...
      So pet - keepers/ breeders might be the only chance this species has to survive.
      The Sapphire Gooty was only found within a small region, only because they tore everything down....
      So please breeders: keep genetic diversity, don't go for a special vibrant colour to sell...
      It might be their death ! It's in your hands! HELP THE SPECIES SURVIVE ! PLEASE!
      AS AN ARACHNOPHOBIC I PLEAD TO KEEP A HUGE SPIDER ALIVE!

  • @NoG-Inc.
    @NoG-Inc. 5 ปีที่แล้ว +27

    Not the smartest move I've seen. Handling anything that advanced is seriously foolish no matter how experienced the keeper is. Handling does nothing for the spider and put you directly in harm's way. Well done on the video, but not the best idea. This can give people the wrong idea as no 2 tarantulas are ever the same and no genus is docile or calm.

    • @snuttetass
      @snuttetass 5 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      There is a matter of safety for the spider. A fall is most likely to kill it. It´s a stupid way to show off.

    • @snuttetass
      @snuttetass 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @Richard Santiago arboreal or terrestrial does not matter. The abdomen is just as vulnerable and they don't get a good grip on our skinn but i do agree with the potent venom, can be a nasty bite but if he's stupid enought to handle it, not my problem.

    • @lokevoice
      @lokevoice 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Did you not read the disclaimer? He addresses all of this at the start of the video

    • @NoG-Inc.
      @NoG-Inc. 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Regardless of addressing such issues it still should not be practiced. This particular genus is extremely skittish and known for being moody. We in the hobby know and address such issues and handling is frowned upon doing such action with such genus and putting it out their to be critiqued. A foolish decision.

      Yellow on the joints and a shade of yellow on his abdomen. Not too shabby. I showed this to a Kindergarten class and of course, a few kids were freaked out but some wanted to touch it but one student puts her hand near him, he jumps into a threat posture. He was stressed while I was carrying him but he seems really comfortable around me. He eventually warmed up to the class.

    So the day we shipped out for basic training for the Army we were kept awake for 48 hours and once we were trying on boots I looked underneath the guy in front of me and I saw a blue tarantula that looked like it jumped into a pile of glitter. Said tarantula looked my way, waved at me, and promptly faded away. I asked the guy next to me if he just saw a sparkly blue spider and he just looked at me like I was crazy. To this day I thought that sparkly blue spiders were just a figment of my imagination until I saw this, now I will never know if that spider who waved at me was a magic spider or a visual hallucination of a sleep deprived trainee.
