Weeping Willow Crown Reduction - Tree Pruning

  • Full crown reduction on a Weeping Willow tree in this video. It's a centrepiece of the property and after a large branch snapped out in the recent past I advised on future pruning works. It was decided to try and keep the current natural shape while taking some general weight off the limbs. I used the hedge cutters on the lowest parts to give an even finish and plenty headroom to walk underneath. A nice climb on a hot peaceful day. All the removed branches stayed on site as the homeowner turned them into mulch for the compost pile - saving on cost of removal.
I decided to split the tree into two as there where two main leaders and great anchor points. I first worked the right side of the tree before getting down and working on the left side as a totally different tree.

I was anxious to see the final product. Beautiful job! I'm sure that the homeowner was pleased. I am in the much earlier years of growing willows and researching info on formative pruning to help keep trees at a more manageable height. Learning as I go. Thanks for the video.

Sexy tree after your reduction. Nice work. Matt do you remember which videos of yours show how you do canopy anchors? Seem to remember you using a DMM ring but can’t remember it.

Thanks! Haha good question most of last year's was with the DMM ring. Just been using a running bowling recently. I think it was the Willow section felling job. I will have to have a look.

I have one in my backyard. It's pretty and the maintenance is crazy. A tree company comes out twice a year for pruning.
