Thanks for the vid. I was expecting to see a lot of iron-on videos, but most are sewing. I definitely would not have thought to do all the steps you did, so I'm glad I watched!
my bf walked into the room and said you do bikes and i was like but he does sewing because youre doing iron on patches anyway, it was the weird cross over that we didnt know we needed :D
The adhesive may not hold for very long on some materials. Once you iron on the patch, a person who does simple alterations should be able to sew the perimeter. Your dry cleaner usually will have someone they farm this out to. Like any of us have a dry cleaner anymore, but you know what I mean. Anyway, it will be surprisingly inexpensive.
I've been meaning to ask this question forever: Really just wondering, what do Laura and Russ do with all their stickers and patches?! I do patches in the map case and stickers for tool boxes because I'm afraid of the iron, but sometimes a lucky sticker will end up on a bike.
I emailed RoadRunner about ironing patches onto their Jammer bag (really like this bag). They told me that iron on patches don't last on Cordura for a long time. They recommended sewing it. I have an "outdoor sewing kit" with some stronger needles for thicker fabric. Please let us know how it lasts?
didn’t work so i just put the iron on the patch without anything in between, used steam, and it was on in 10 seconds. just pushed the iron down while holding it in place.
Hey Russ! Did Walter have any specific warnings or tips for X-Pac? Cordura I'm confident with, but worried about melting that plasticky lightweight stuff!
ok so there are 3 methods to get them on... direct embroidery, iron on patch, iron on patch with sewing...i want to make a few caps and jerseys im not sure what way to go.. patch is def cheaper...
I’ve added a bunch to an xpac swift zeitgeist. I added a stitch to each corner so I wouldn’t loose them in the elements. They take a lot of beating on flaps.
His instructions are a bit weak. For best results, iron for 3 rounds of: - 30 seconds on, 10 seconds off - 30 seconds on, 10 seconds off - 30 seconds on, 10 seconds off
I tend to iron them and then sew around the edges anyway, the "belt-and-suspenders" approach.
Love the “preheat the material” tip before applying the patch - thanks Russ!
Use a damp cloth! The steam will give a better result, prevent damage, increase steam, as soon as cool, ready to go!

Seeing Russ with a mini iron is by far the best thing I've seen all day!
Tiniest iron award!! I definitely need to bling out some bags, thanks for the ironing tips 😉
This is super useful. I’ve got a bunch of patches but I had no idea how to iron them on! Thank you.
Ha! No wonder I've never had good luck with iron on patches! Way more steps than I woulda thought.
Right! The ones I ordered didn’t even come with instructions.

My husband and I have a dry cleaners, I wonder what that says about us 🤔😅
Nice. I have one of your patches and a bag I want it on but was a little nervous about doing it.
"No Room for regular iron" hence you have some 5 bikes at home :)
Priorities
Thanks I finally have the courage to attempt ironing my patch that's just sitting around.
Any latch will work?
I have been applying patches to my tubes this way. No wonder why I kept going through tubes so fast. Only use the iron for 45 seconds.
Thumbs up. Thanks for sharing this. I have a few patches to sew/iron on...
I usually just hand sew them on, a bit of a pain. But I know they are secure.

Mostly post them on the wall for show. But stickers wind up on our cooler in the van.
My patches seem to peel up. I end up sewing it on.

Another option is super glue.

Really great! I do often sew and iron because I’m not very good at either. 😁
I end up trying, failing, then just stitching on a patch
Does the plastic at the back have to come off
Help! So what if I do have a plastic lining or some kind of lining on the inside. How to I protect it I guess?
Glue it on.
Can it work on leather jackets ?
Thank you!
Great video. Thank you.
Great video! Thank you for the tips!
This was a great tutorial. You did a good job! Good-looking patches also. Who's the patch maker you guys use that's based in PA?
Better ask if I can use the iron 😆 Will they stick to waxed canvas or is sewing them on better for this?
they will not stick to waxed canvas.
i want to buy a similar camping bandana, where did you get yours?
Could you do an embroidered iron on patch on to faux suede?
I have a steamer will that work??:')
How many people that he meant patches made of "iron"?
Is there any way you can give me walters info. I need some custom patches for my business

If you’re super worried I would go the super glue route!

That's probably the only Iron Man I would ever do.
So cute!
Anyone know if this would work on xpac?
I’ve added a bunch to an xpac swift zeitgeist. I added a stitch to each corner so I wouldn’t loose them in the elements. They take a lot of beating on flaps.
my bag ended up burning even with the cloth and water. thanks
That a travel iron?
Yes. But we use it at home as well.
@@PathLessPedaledTV So how about some extreme ironing videos ?
I just burned my whole bag thanks
😂😂😂😂
But not on a waxed cotton surface, methinks.
It doesn't work well. I ended up sewing around the edges of the patches on my Carradice saddlebag.
thankyouuuu
if you dont know...now you know
I use hot glue.
You look like a giant holding a regular sized iron. Ha!
His instructions are a bit weak. For best results, iron for 3 rounds of:

Gorilla Glue !
Not quite a tiny whisk.... but almost as babish-ey
Iron? E6000 glue.
Everything is glue on, not everything is iron on.
