This Superman is in a world that has superhero’s in it already. This movie is pulled from multiple comics. You r almost better reading up vs watching. Watch screen crush’s break down to get comics to look up. You don’t have to actually read the comics just google the names and read about the characters
Then watch Superman II with Christopher Reeve. I would follow up with Superman Returns with Brandon Routh, and finally Man of Steel, with Henry Cavill. This will give you a well-rounded look at the way that people have approached the Superman story as well as his origins.
@JohnnyPappas I couldn't agree more. I'd even recommend watching some of the animated Superman films. Within seven months there's plenty of Superman content she can react to
No homework required but as far as animated movies go All Star Superman is my favorite. About comics: My two favorites are “Superman smashes the Klan” and “Superman: Up in the Sky”
David Corenswet, the new Superman Actor, was the one who convince James Gunn to add the trunks back because he believe Superman despite being an OP alien he wants to not be scary looking for the people or even children and the trunks will make him look goofy but at the same time a friendly superhero. Because of that, it sold me. This is the start of DCU so they added the other heroes but won't be much in screentime but just to introduce them but won't be pull the focus away to Superman.
"Superman" (1978) is his first big screen outing. Obviously some of the effects etc. are "of their time" but it'll give you an idea of the character and Christopher Reeve _is_ Superman for many people (me included). Or "Superman and Lois" features the Superman (and Lois :) that first appeared on "Supergirl" so you may already be familiar with them - you could dip into the first few episodes to get a feel.
Honestly, the best places to start with Superman just to get some version of the basics are probably...any of these in no particular order: Superman: The Animated Series (if you want a really solid and consistent cartoon) Superman: Man of Tomorrow (if you want a modern animated superhero movie) Superman: The Movie (if you like classic movies) My Adventures With Superman (if you like...for lack of a better term, "American-produced anime") Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman (if you like rom-coms and - said with fondness - cheesy '90s TV) Those all include some version of an origin story, but differ on vibes. Avoid Man of Steel. It's Superman as interpreted by people who hate Superman.
Krypto, also known as Krypto the Superdog, is a superhero dog appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics, commonly in association with the character Superman. In most continuities, Krypto is Superman's pet dog, usually depicted as a white dog of a generic pedigree.
I recommend the early 2000’s show Smallville. The first 5 seasons were a dawsons creek meets Superman vibe and then the last 5 seasons amps up little by little, bringing in character and expanding it more into general DC stuff. It’d just be for the viewing enjoyment because honestly, this film would be the start, it’s a clean slate.
Start with "Superman: The Movie." It's origin story and time capsule. Since you liked "Supergirl," start with the first few episodes of "Superman and Lois" next. Where you go from there depends on your openness to / preference for different storytelling forms.
smallville, christopher reeves superman, and lois and clark is the live action ones. As far as the animated ones go u basically can't go wrong, besides the injustice ones since it's "what if superman became a dictator" basically
Literally started crying when I say Krytpo I love DC. But some of their live actions as of late aren't GREAT. I like The Suicide Squad and Birds of Prey (which is apparently a controversial opinion). But the animated DC movies are some of the best movies in comics
The Henry Cavill version of Superman will not give you any insight into the Superman that's being portrayed in this new movie this is a comic book Superman world he lives in a world where Heroes already exists the Zack Snyder universe and Superman are the opposite of everything that is Superman as far as light and hope and optimism I don't recommend watching those to get any insight about Superman watch Superman the movie with Christopher Reeve
As far as homework, Superman and Superman II (starring Christopher Reeve), Superman Returns (starring Brandon Routh), and Man of Steel (starring Henry Cavill). If you have time, Superman and Lois is a very good show. It's an older Superman. He's the father of teenaged boys. Supergirl was ok the first few seasons, but in later seasons it leaned to far into social issues.
Completely agree with this, it should give someone enough of an idea of where Superman is currently in terms of media. Add some episodes of Superman: The Animated Series cartoon and its World's Finest movie, and selective episodes of Smallville. Of course, if one wants to get into the comics, there is the All-Star Superman series, I would add Superman: Secret Identity, Kingdom Come and also the Birthright series to the homework.
I would definitely start with the original Richard Donner versions of Superman starring Christopher Reeve as Superman and that magical epic John Williams Superman theme. There have been some great actors portray Superman… but to me… Christopher Reeve WAS Superman. Great reaction by the way and can’t wait to see the new movie, 🙂
I love d.c, enjoy Batman but loving Nightwing. Love how they are treating him in the new d.c comics. The leader of the justice league. Mainly his fan base is all female because he is super attractive but happy he is getting the respect he deserves. Not a huge super man but smallvile is considered the best superhero tv series of all time. Have high hopes for this film. Will watch it no matter what and hope everyone gives it a chance
Definitely start with Christopher Reeve Superman. Dean Cain Lois and Clark, Tom Welling Smallville. Also a fantastic portrayal is Tyler Koechlin Superman and Lois on Max that just had the season finale.
I still have a hard time accepting how the world has changed. The world we live in today has lost touch with the first comic & pop culturally based Superhero that started the genre. Superman. Almost every other superhero out there has influence based off foundational Superman.....Marvel included. Yes there were other hero legends before him (Hercules, green hornet ect..ect..) but Supes started the iconic pop genre of "Super"hero comics, TV, and eventually first cinematic movies. He was around long before marvel, and he supersedes even Batman by a few years. It is what it is. Anyway, Lipps. I always love your reactions. I would encourage you to start with the original Christopher Reeve Superman movies I & II (Donner's movies). Although Superman Returns in 2006 was kind of "Meh" to a lot of people. I like it. Routh was an excellent Superman who just didn't have a great script and story written movie to work with. Obviously, if you want modern visual display of Superman then for sure watch Henry Cavill & Snyder's DCEU movies. Superman's personality traits are a bit off in that universe, but Snyder's display of what Superpowered Kryptonian's can do in our fleshy cardboard like world....would be pretty realistic.
My Adventures with Superman is a great and easy to watch introduction to Clark Kent and his world! The cartoon Justice League/Justice League Unlimited is also fantastic but has a much wider focus than just Superman.
Judging only from this trailer, I would say you should just watch the original Christopher Reeve Superman movies. At least just the first one or two. The others are low key awful.
The Comics...always the best...because that's the true medium for these characters. Classic reprints from the Silver Age and anything by writers Mark Waid and Grant Morrison (obvious influences on this film) would be my recommendations 😊
Watch the 4 Christopher Reeve movies, the Superman Animated Series, and a few key short comic book runs: All Star Superman, Superman for all Seasons, and Superman For the Man who has Everything
I don't think you'll have time to watch all the seasons of Smallville) That's why I recommend the 1978 Superman movie, the sequel is also available, as well as the Man of Steel starring Henry Cavill. Probably the last one is my favorite Superman movie. I hope you'll like it too. As for the animated series, of course, the 90s animated series about Superman. I also recommend the animated series "My Adventures with Superman". Quite interesting works, worthy of attention.
The story of Superman begins in the 1930s so starting anywhere is ok. There is too much Superman out there to grasp everything at once so just pick something up. My Superman started with the 1950s and 1960s TV shows. It then moved to the cartoons of the 1970s and 1980s. The comics especially Man Of Steel and Krypton and Superman Year One are good things to read. In the movies 1980s Superman movie is a must. Christopher Reeves is a Superman to an entire generation of people. The TV shows Lois and Clark, Superman and Lois, Smallville and the 1990s Superman animation and Justice League animation are good Superman resources. The Death of Superman is a must comic read. I would do any of that before watching any movie post 2005 just to get an idea of who or what Superman is in American comics/mythology. I do have to say there is just too much out there to start anywhere so you just go for it. Personally I am a fan of the old movie serials and of the George Reeves TV show before anything else. After that Christopher Reeves is my Superman and no one has come close since in the movies or TV. The comics are all over the place. At any one time in the last 50 years there are always 3 different comic runs of Superman at the same time so many stories to follow. Educationally if you really want to know where Superman comes from make sure you familiarize yourself with the Jewish story of Moses. Superman is a Moses analogue and the character was specifically created to battle the propaganda of the German Ubermensch of the 1930s.
Honestly, I don't know the story of this movie, so I don't know what you should research. If the movie is about Superman's origins, it would be spoilery to read up on his origins. If they are basing the movie on an existing comic or story, it would be spoilery to read up on it. I recommend you do not research it. Just experience the movie fresh.
Hey! Really enjoyed your reaction, especially you mentioning you’d like to dive more into the Superman side of things! In terms of “homework” I think you’d really benefit from watching the original 70s Christopher Reeves Superman’s, at least. They really give you an idea of the vibe and energy Superman is all about. Also, you mentioning you like Supergirl, I remember Tyler Hoechlin played Superman on a couple guest episodes and I think you’d LOVE the full show starring him as Superman which is called Superman & Lois. Me personally, I think that show solidified him as one of the greatest live action Supermans to date; and honestly all of the actors are so phenomenal in that show. It also introduces/reinvents some of the iconic Superman lore so yeah, highly recommend CW’s Superman & Lois. Now I know you only asked for movies, but I can’t help but hope you might check out some comics to (if you feel up to it) since you are now reading Batman comics. I think Superman comics are some of the most fun and inspiring reads! Besides the mainline ‘Superman’ comic which you could obviously read, some others that really moved me were Superman Space Age and Superman American Alien for some possible starters. And honestly in my opinion I think any story that really centers or emphasizes Lois and Clark’s relationship and love for one another typically shapes up to be an amazing Superman story! I think Superman comics are some of the easiest to get into once you get the hang of what you want to read, so just go for it if you’d ever like to😊I’m gonna end it here though cause this comment has gotten way too long!
Watch the Christopher Reeves Superman (1978) and Superman II (the Donner cut if you can find it ) I’d then go with Smallville, the Superman Animated show from the 90s, the newer My Adventures with Superman animated series, and the excellent CW show Superman and Lois (all available on HBO Max) to really understand Superman before getting to Snyder’s Man of Steel which was a much more cynical, dour take on Superman. Man of steel is a decent movie, but it kind of misses the point and unfortunately, a ton of fans were introduced to Superman by that movie.
START WITH 1978 CHRIS REEVE, THEN BRANDON ROUTH. CAVILL'S VERSION IS NOT REALLY CLOSE TO THE ORIGINALS, EVEN THE COSTUME AND MUSIC. YOU CAN EVEN TELL HE'S SUPERMAN EVEN IF HE WEARS TRIPLE GLASSES, SO DISTINGUISHABLE. THIS CORENSWET GUY IS THE BEST VERSION SINCE REEVE! SO EXCITED! THE SCENE WHERE HE'S ASKING TO BE TAKEN HOME HITS HARD, SEEING MY HERO BEATEN UP BADLY. JULY 11 CAN"T COME SOON ENOUGH!!!!!!!!
The Justice League and Justice League United animated series might be helpful. We see characters like Guy Gardner Green Lantern, Hawkgirl, Mr Terrific and Metamorpho in this trailer. If you really want to dig deep, Young Justice is fantastic. All the sidekicks (Robin, Kid Flash, Aqualad, Superboy, Miss Martian and Artemis) team up and do covert ops for Batman.
Hi Lipps, love your channel, thanks for it. If you want to watch movies watch the 1978 Superman movie. If you want to read comics read Superman: A Man for All Seasons first then Allstar Superman. James Gunn took a lot of inspiration from Allstar Superman for his movie. Those are good graphic novels to start with but there are lots of good Superman stories to read. I nearly forgot. Superman the animated series is good too.
Superman:Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow, Action Comics 775, Superman For all Seasons, All-Star Superman, Kingdom Come, Superman: Up in the Sky, a few more, but this is a good start.
Sorry in advance for the long comment haha! I always strive for more Superman fans out there, so if you want to really understand what makes this blue boy scout tick and the world he lives in, here's a list of recommendations: In terms of comics, Superman For All Seasons" and "Superman: Birthright" are both fantastic introductions to the character and his mythos. Birthright is imo the definitive origin story for him and For All Seasons immerses you into the first year or so of Clark's career as Superman as the seasons go by, alongside commentary from four people with different but deep connections to him. Superman Smashes the Klan, while not an origin story, is a must-read for me, it's an incredible story that really humanizes him, focusing a lot on his feelings of self-doubt and fear of his alien heritage. All-Star Superman is one of the greatest comics of all time and will certainly be recommended to you a lot, and for good reason. It's some truly generational material. Talking movies, I don't think there's been a truly great live-action Superman movie that captures his full potential to date. That said, you can't go wrong with the 1978 film. For all its flaws, it nails Superman's sense of hope, charisma and relationship with Lois. If you can spare the time for 10 whole seasons of television, the show Smallville is also great. There's a lot of 2000's cheese and teenage melodrama in the early seasons, but the show really understands what makes Clark Kent the man he is and the hero he will become. (It's actually what made me get into Superman!)
I asked ChatGPT how powerful superman's punch would be if he went as fast as he could using his full strength. It said he'd generate enough force to equal a 1.4 billion megaton nuclear weapon. For perspective, the largest megaton weapon detonated on record was 50 megatons.
That his dog krypto the super dog, he’s the man and it’s gonna be crazy to see him on the big screen. Great first teaser trailer I can’t wait to see more
I watched this after recording my reaction to The Green Mile for Patreon and my eyes are still swollen from crying
This Superman is in a world that has superhero’s in it already. This movie is pulled from multiple comics. You r almost better reading up vs watching. Watch screen crush’s break down to get comics to look up. You don’t have to actually read the comics just google the names and read about the characters
⭐️
cw superman looks better
Krypto the Superdog has been around in the comics for almost 70 years.
he's a cutie!! I need to pick me up some Superman comics
The best place to start with Superman is the Christoper Reeve Movies and then the others after
I've just actually sat down to watch the first Christopher reeves superman movie, made me remember why superman is my all time favourite superhero 👍
And this answers the question "Who saves Superman?" His dog, Krypto, because he's a good boy!
The best boy!
🙄
He definitely earned himself a treat and a belly rub
he's the best boy!!!
Robert Pattinson's Batman : " I am Vengeance "
David Corenswet's Superman : = I am Hope.
That’s pretty awesome, well done
If we could give awards on TH-cam comments, you would get one.
VIN DIESEL := I AM GROOT
this made me emotional, great comment
Start with Superman: The Movie (1978). It's technically the first ever superhero blockbuster film
Within seven months there's plenty of Superman content she can react to
Watch the 1978 Superman movie starring Christopher Reeve, Margot Kidder, and Gene Hackman
1000% yes!
Christopher Reeves Superman is such a great movie to begin with!
Christopher Reeves Superman one and two are very good
No homework required but as far as animated movies go All Star Superman is my favorite.
About comics: My two favorites are “Superman smashes the Klan” and “Superman: Up in the Sky”
Just watch the Christopher Reeves films before this new one and you'll be fixed up on the character.
If you're into reading it's Superman Birthright All-Star Superman and Superman For All Seasons all Inspirations for this movie
And all three are great!!
Hi Lipps! I'd recommend starting with the first two Christopher Reeve Superman movies. I'd recommend the "Donner cut" when you get to Superman II.
The original 1978 Movie with Christopher Reeve would be good and maybe a few of the episodes with George Reeves from the 1950's TV show ?
Agreed on starting with Reeve!
Honestly, the best places to start with Superman just to get some version of the basics are probably...any of these in no particular order:
Superman: The Animated Series (if you want a really solid and consistent cartoon)
Superman: Man of Tomorrow (if you want a modern animated superhero movie)
Superman: The Movie (if you like classic movies)
My Adventures With Superman (if you like...for lack of a better term, "American-produced anime")
Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman (if you like rom-coms and - said with fondness - cheesy '90s TV)
Those all include some version of an origin story, but differ on vibes.
Avoid Man of Steel. It's Superman as interpreted by people who hate Superman.
Kryptos gonna steal the whole damn movie, he stole the trailer and he was in two shots
Krypto, also known as Krypto the Superdog, is a superhero dog appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics, commonly in association with the character Superman. In most continuities, Krypto is Superman's pet dog, usually depicted as a white dog of a generic pedigree.
I'd look into reading All-Star Superman. It's considered a classic and James Gunn said it was a big inspiration for this movie.
I would watch all 4 Christopher Reeve movies and the Lois And Clark tv show
I recommend the early 2000’s show Smallville. The first 5 seasons were a dawsons creek meets Superman vibe and then the last 5 seasons amps up little by little, bringing in character and expanding it more into general DC stuff. So many people have recommended this! It's definitely high on my list
Start with "Superman: The Movie." It's origin story and time capsule.
Since you liked "Supergirl," start with the first few episodes of "Superman and Lois" next.
Where you go from there depends on your openness to / preference for different storytelling forms.
Krypto is a super good dog.
SUPER good dog :)
smallville, christopher reeves superman, and lois and clark is the live action ones. As far as the animated ones go u basically can't go wrong, besides the injustice ones since it's "what if superman became a dictator" basically
Literally started crying when I say Krytpo
I love DC. But some of their live actions as of late aren't GREAT. I like The Suicide Squad and Birds of Prey (which is apparently a controversial opinion). But the animated DC movies are some of the best movies in comics
noted, this comment on the live action movies seems to be a somewhat popular opinion. Hopefully this one delivers!!
Of course, if one wants to get into the comics, there is the All-Star Superman series, I would add Superman: Secret Identity, Kingdom Come and also the Birthright series to the homework.
NOOO she should avoid the snyder version like the plague, its batman in a superman suit.
Your hair is gorgeous!😍
Superman the animated series
I would recommend reading the graphic novels Superman: For All Seasons and All-Star Superman in preparation.
All star superman kingdom come storyline
Definitely start with Christopher Reeve Superman. Dean Cain Lois and Clark, Tom Welling Smallville. Also a fantastic portrayal is Tyler Koechlin Superman and Lois on Max that just had the season finale.
That’s krypto he has the same powers that Superman has. (Yes he can fly.)
I still have a hard time accepting how the world has changed. The world we live in today has lost touch with the first comic & pop culturally based Superhero that started the genre. Superman. Would love to see your take on Superman Returns.
That’s Krypto!
Watch the 4 Christopher Reeve movies, the Superman Animated Series, and a few key short comic book runs: All Star Superman, Superman for all Seasons, and Superman For the Man who has Everything
You should DEFINITELY watch Smallville to get the feel of how Clark Kent should be.

right!?
Movies no, this is more comic book accurate, there's a reading list that Gunn has talked about as it pertains to this movie.
he is Fukin Tall!!!!
john wick would kill superman using a pencil
@hedgehog1684 hmm, how big pencil we talk about?.😄
@hedgehog1684 😉

Watch the Christopher Reeves Superman (1978) and Superman II (the Donner cut if you can find it )

@LippsReacts I know, me too

All the women are gonna watch this movie cause of the dog, no doubt.
I can't disappoint James Gunn in this Superman movie. He's the one direct Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy & Suicide Squad.
Superman:Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow, Action Comics 775, Superman For all Seasons, All-Star Superman, Kingdom Come, Superman: Up in the Sky, a few more, but this is a good start.

I don't know if there is anything sexier than Lipps saying she has been buying comics. I said it and I won't take it back!
Are you single
I asked ChatGPT how powerful superman's punch would be if he went as fast as he could using his full strength. It said he'd generate enough force to equal a 1.4 billion megaton nuclear weapon. For perspective, the largest megaton weapon detonated on record was 50 megatons.
Looks like complete garbage. The ONLY Superman, after George Reeve, is CHRISTOPHER REEVES
Such a big fan of Christopher Reeve that you can’t get his name right. 😂
Or George's @@SuntoryKick
That his dog krypto the super dog, he’s the man and it’s gonna be crazy to see him on the big screen. Great first teaser trailer I can’t wait to see more
