The budget....Tom is explaining it actually pretty well - may be I am just a bit more strict about the issue... I am german and Tom is a serious but also a "Teddybear" guy with allways the best mood. I do like that :)
Let's delve into the intricacies of insurance and retirement planning, shall we? Quite the riveting topic, if I do say so myself.
Now, at a mere 250 dollars for health insurance, one might be tempted to leap at the opportunity. However, one mustn't overlook the fine print, dear chaps. Pre-existing conditions may find themselves uninvited to the party, dental treatments may not fall within the realm of coverage, and the deductible could very well be astronomical. A more prudent sum, say 500 dollars, might offer a more reassuring safety net. Nevertheless, I daresay 250 dollars is better than no insurance at all. And for those on a truly tight budget, a modest 50-dollar annual accident insurance policy may suffice. After all, there's nothing quite like a touch of gallows humor when discussing life's uncertainties, is there?
Now, let us pivot to the matter of retirement. Ah, 1500 dollars a month sounds positively delightful, doesn't it? However, let us not count our chickens before they hatch. Firstly, there's the small matter of taxation, which has an uncanny knack for diminishing one's anticipated windfall. And then there's the ever-fickle nature of the dollar, which may well find itself in dire straits in the not-too-distant future. Hence, a more prudent approach would entail budgeting for a sum closer to 2000 dollars per month as a bare minimum. And for those of us with a penchant for a spot of globe-trotting and the finer things in life, I dare say 3000 dollars would be a more realistic figure to aim for. Naturally, one could always aspire for more; the sky's the limit, as they say.
In conclusion, let us approach the matter with sagacity and wit, dear comrades. For in the realm of finance, as in life itself, a modicum of prudence coupled with a dash of panache is always in vogue. Cheers to that!
Not sure if you've already done this, but I keep thinking that a lot of the retirees with low funds are still healthy and could take up some simple online work and increase their budget, so a series on this could be interesting. I get that people don't want to work anymore after a certain age, but if you have, for example, a simple gig having online conversations with students in English that gives you 10$/hour and you "work" 10h a week, that raises your budget from $1,000 to $1,400 (yes, there are tax issues etc., but still that would mean a lot to a person with such a low budget). In fact, I've never seen this mentioned before on any video on how much money do you need in Thailand.
Definitely an interesting idea. I have already made notes. Thank you for bringing the topic.
Good advice. One additional tip to your travel wallet (which i always use) - separate the money so that the larger bills (especially 1,000 THB) are not in the same place as the 100 THB bills. When you’ve have a bit to drink and the bar is dark, it’s too easy to mistake the two bills and end up giving out more than you need and you might lose it.
Great tip! I actually do this as well. Thanks for bringing it up.
Nobody gets as drunk as you.
Not me, I’m seldom drunk
Tommi, we love you 🙂
Thanks Brother, Love you guys too.
Love your deep voice, you should be a voice actor.
I appreciate your kind words. I have been told this before but never knew how to pursue it. Anyway, I love the comment.
I'm from Australia and I live comfortably on 40000thb a month but I don't drink alcohol nor do I smoke and I eat the local food and sometimes I'll have westen food so I don't have a problem living here
Sounds like you have adjusted well. I would love to do an interview with you on my segment "Everyone Has a Story" Let me know if you’re interested?
@@MargaritasinParadise yes I would be interested in doing one

Much appreciated!
Thanks Tom, I am an American expat living in BKK. I enjoy your videos. You have answered some questions for me too, and helped me out. Thank you!
You’re welcome
Thanks so much for the info. I do plan on retiring one day in Pattaya. I will be in Pattaya and the end of June for three weeks.
Sounds great!
Thanx brother !
My pleasure
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it
Washmachine makes life so easy!!! Love the videos Tom. Keep up the great work
Thank You so much
You need a minimum of $1500. You are correct. I think it's safer in Thailand than in many countries, even the United States.
Thank You so much
I am very glad to see someone else who is not a fan of living in Jomtien. It's not my style and I'm not interested in living that very western lifestyle.
I’m definitely bias; i’ve asked many people what the advantages are of living in Jomtien. Most times they mention living in massive condominium complexes, that are brand new. The negatives about that are lack of parking, waiting extended periods of time for elevators, and swimming in crowded pools. Anyway, that’s not for me.
goodjob, wish you the bes!!
👍👍
Thank you so much
I bought Thai health insurance here , it’s garbage !!! I got sick they didn’t pay
What happened exactly? I heard this from another person as well. I would love to hear the whole story?
Who wants too just survive Pattaya party town 2000 UK pounds a month modest living on that been visiting 24 years.
I get it, & agree.
Are there condos in Pattaya that rent directly? I'd like to avoid agents. If so, could you recommend 2 or 3?
65% of condos have leasing offices in bilding look around in a few days you will be set.
another idea is to look at the bulletin boards in the condo's lobbies. My building right now has at least 8 condo's listed by owners for rent.
@@MargaritasinParadise Tom what about health care for veterans ! Are there places that except FMP over there?
@22jaydogg Yes, most private hospital international offices. Get more details by checking with them I use Bangkok Hospital Pattaya, they will need a copy of your FMP authorization letter for your benefits, which they will keep on file. I hope this helps.
@@MargaritasinParadise thanks Tom! That’s very helpful information! Many vets don’t realize that! About the FMP programs if you have a rating from the VA! Thanks again sir!
I self insure so I have money put aside for that
That's an interesting subject as I recent did an interview with someone who does the same thing by self-insuring. There's no doubt it takes discipline to leave that money alone and know it only for medical emergencies. Good on you & it sounds like another option.
@MargaritasinParadise I just leave that money in a aussie bank account where at least I'm getting interest on my money not like here
Give us info on condos and prices in Wongomat. I am looking for 2-4 million Baht
Please.
You have 31 sqm studios in Riviera Wongamat, award winning condo, for this price range.
Nooo! There are so many other channels doing condo viewings, MinP does great vids and I’d be sorry to see him going down that rabbit hole!
There is a lot more condos than you believe in that price point. I paid, 1.5 million baht for mine for 48sqm. I was just recently checking bulletin boards of local condos and it’s surprising at the number of condos for sale by owners. Many in the 3-5M baht range for units 55sqm & under. This is a video I just recently posted, but I will try to mention condo for sale prices in the future. th-cam.com/video/MYKM1wrIhXE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ujdlBjgSUqLVeqcZ
Wongamat Beach definitely has great rental opportunities. Considering location & views with generally cheap rental prices. Many investors gobbled up the lower price point units just for rental income. But there’s still many available, especially in the older buildings. I hope this helps.
@robbatayaki5505 great point, awesome buildings & grounds, 31sqm is tight but many like. Thanks for your input.
I have been hearing that Thailand has new tax system for bringing in money to Thailand. Meaning that Thailand is now taxing foreign income ?
The rumors about that have been going on for over a year. I’m still skeptical and don’t believe it’s gonna happen especially to the small people that they are making less than $5 million a year. I think the original intent was too, tax Thai nationals who were bringing income sources in from abroad. TH-camrs started to exaggerate the ideas end up getting people worried, suggesting to them that they were actually Thai residents because they lived here 181 days a year or more. Personally, I think there’s bigger fish to fry and I’m just not worried about it.
@@MargaritasinParadise Thank you!
But what if you don't drink and don't go with girls? You ride your bike every day, eat at cheap places, cook at home (I would buy basics like banana, yogurt, nuts to have in the room), and you just want a basic normal girlfriend your age.
Edit
I should have listened to the whole video. I was just surprised at when you said 5k a month. No way I have that.
Living that lifestyle is very doable on a $1K budget.
Yup 1000-1200 without drinking or girls
Exactly
Got it, trim those nose hairs lols
hahaha, done😂
Man.... you are handsome.... If only i had 10% of your looks i could get a girlfriend... Alas i don't so i am eternally single.
hahaha, Thanks There's someone for everyone.
I totally disagree with what you are saying and it is upto the each person and how much you want to spend I live a great life on my 40000thb per month and I rent a condo and I have a motor bike
I do appreciate your input. I know everyone has different like. Being able to survive well on 40K bt a month is an awesome achievement. How long have you lived in Thailand? Any chance you would consider doing an interview? I'm sure your perspectives would be of great interest.
@MargaritasinParadise I have been living in patong/phuket for 3 years but now I'm living in jomtien and it's a lot cheaper here than patong and yes I would do a interview with you as I like what you do on your channel
