  • @ACADACA
    @ACADACA ปีที่แล้ว +7

    I dont watch soccer hardly at all so I can't comment on the 7 member part but the other part besides height that makes me agree with Daz on smaller goals is wingspan. Some male athletes have ridiculous wingspans and with female wingspan that probably plays a big role for keeper in a goal that size.

  • @marksmith8210
    @marksmith8210 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I've always said the goal is too big for women gk to cover. Avg female gk is probably 6 inches shorter than men's gk. Add 3 inches for arm length difference. Then factor in the difference in vertical/horizontal leap...probably about 36" vs 28". That's a gk leap arch difference of 17". So going from an 8' x 24' goal to a 7' x 21' goal would still be less of a difference but would keep it more competitive and on par with what the guys score. Taking 20 yds off the field length and 10 yds off the width would also help reduce the ridiculous gaps all over the defensive third.

    I thought about going to the tournament (it was in North Carolina). That they essentially made it sound like some players from some of the current teams would be on here but really it was folks long retired or maybe just peripherally affiliated with the clubs so I kind of lost interest. But it is a quasi-open tournament so there were a few celebrity teams and a couple clubs just put together by friends. So we could definitely have an Office Blokes FC for the next one. There was a million dollar prize for the winner which was Newton Pride FC. They won the US amateur cup in 2019. Former college players.

(The habit of adding -er to nicknames in British vernacular is frequently attributed to Oxford students of that period, and can be found in other sporting slang such as “rugger” for rugby.)
      The parallel names soccer and football (or the combined soccer football) were used more or less interchangeably to refer to association football until well into the 20th century, at which point football emerged as the dominant name in most parts of the world. However, in countries where another football variety was already popular-such as America and Australia-the name soccer stuck around.

One of the others, Kristine Lilly, retired almost 15 years ago, so it's a bit disingenuous to call this the "US Women's Team". That being said, losing 12-0 in any scenario is a nightmare, especially when all of the players looked like they downed a couple of sausage sandwiches and mugs of beer at halftime.

      O’Reilly was an alternative for the ‘16 Olympics, and a bencher in the ‘15 WWC. Other than things like the Algarve Cup, she hadn’t really been a part of anything since the London Olympics. Other than the goalie, I don’t even think any of them are currently playing at a top club. Meanwhile Wrexham here was a mix of retired players and young potential up-and-comers. Add in the weird format and field & goal sizes and this isn’t a good comparison. Having said that, the men’s game and women’s game are not the same - and in a match up between an equivalent level men’s squad and an equivalent level women’s squad, the men would win easily - this just wasn’t an apples to apples demonstration of that like everyone is making it out to be.

I could discuss the contract that the USWNT signed with the USSF, but its complicated and would go on for way too long. So lets stick with those team facts.

    I saw the "highlights" of this after the match and was absolutely shocked that they ever thought this game was a good idea for Women's soccer. If anything it could only deflate women who believe they are among the best in the world, but end up looking like pre-schoolers playing against a team of adults. It almost seems as if it were arranged to remind delusional woman's teams exactly why they are not paid like their male counterparts. It's sad that Megan Rapinoe, who was screaming the loudest about equal pay, wasn't out there. The fact that they’re physically weaker has nothing to do with it. They simply don’t have the support/sales that men’s sport does. I’d they did, they’d make that money. @@andirandolph8830 Sorry, but sports are still a meritocracy! If you have a women's sport (like say tennis) that is as well attended as the men's version then they will get what they deserve. But punctuating an argument with, oh that trope which is entirely valid and has been proven time and time again is "tired AF" is a laughably bankrupt defense that simply doesn't work only because YOU say so. Go watch Bill Burr's routine about how women failed the WNBA! That will explain why women don't "have the support/sales that men's sport does." If 50% of the population supports sports solely based on loyalty to one's own gender (a terrible reason I'd say), then these failing women's leagues would be as wildly lucrative as their male counterparts. #FACTS

If more people would support women’s sports, they’d make more money as athletes.
