      That is so cool, thank you so much for that. As much of a TH-cam fanatic as I am, I haven't watched many on Manhunt because I didn't want to be lead, so that's actually very intersting to hear. I really appreciate you taking the time to write that, and for the kind words.

    Fascinating deep dive into the game and the controversy's behind it. Its interesting to think how if it was released today on platforms like steam or epic etc nobody would bat an eyelid, but at the time this game held quite a legendary status as the most gory and brutal game. Compare it to games like God of War or Doom and some of the kills in the game are quite tame but i suppose the grim snuff film setting made it feel more 'real'.

    • @godzillazfriction
      @godzillazfriction 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      bruh it's the depictions of the kills especially the setting and sound design... to say that it is tame now. compared to other games is nonsensical

    • @CasualGamr
      @CasualGamr  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The sounds!! Oh man, the sounds... I actually cut a line out of my script in which I literally said that the sound design doesn't date like the graphics do, and so when you watch it back now, especially the burning alive screams and garrotte wire kills with all the gurgling... man I just found myself grimicing whenever I was editing those bits 😁

      It definintely had that effect on me, although his performance is brilliant whatever kind of amusement you draw from it - he is such a talented actor. Holter Graham as Leo Kasper though... wow, that guy just nailed the serial killer vibe, end of.

    Based on the intro alone, I can tell this guy has been sheltered most of his life. I know its hard for someone whos entire existence is behind a screen to understand, but simulated violence and real violence are 2 very different things.

    • @YouTubeIsntTwitterKnockitoff
      @YouTubeIsntTwitterKnockitoff 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      While it is true they are different, I think it's idiotic to imply simulated violence has absolutely no effect on participants of the simulation. Just as works of art have the strength to allow us to experience empathy for characters, it very well has the strength and capability to do the exact opposite -- to zap us of our ability to feel enough empathy for other humans. To deny this is to deny the power simulation has as a practice. Not just a concept, but a legitimate and very real practice. When you choose to engage with interactive works that play into our nastier habits as a species, sure, it has no real world outward damage. You kill a guy in a game, he respawns. But repeating the act over and over, your enjoyment of it shifts as you invest more time into it. But imagine what sorts of unexpected things may be happening to the player. Video games are all about input, and in reality, all input has a context. Even in video games and other virtual simulation, you're still left needing a context in order for the simulation to have any effect -- desires or unexpected.
      There's a great video that goes over it in a bit of detail: th-cam.com/video/5Xjcs7DpbSQ/w-d-xo.html
      Also "I can tell this guy has been sheltered most of his life", no you can't. You literally do not know this person. So a video they produced brought up points you instinctually are against and refuse to give even a little bit of actual honest attention to. Okay. Like, whatever. But to try and personally insult someone like that, it shows more about you than them, pal. And hey, let's say this guy has been "existing entirely behind a screen". Then it's amazing that he has developed more nuance understandings about things like simulation, it's effects, and violence as a concept than you have -- supposing the other implication is you somehow don't also regularly use The Internet. (Always baffling to see people online use being online as an insult. Like... you're also online, right now. Reading this. Having written what you wrote. Just because someone says something different than you would've doesn't mean they're online more or less than you. They just have a different, and honestly more fleshed out in this case, understanding about things than you do.)
      Just because things are different doesn't mean there aren't similarities or back-and-forth elements that can be spoken on. There are, in fact, similarities to murderous practices in real life AND those depicted in fiction; such as the psychological effects of violence. Real and fake. Doesn't matter which, as conceptually violence has an impact on everyone and everything. It's a part of life and one humans have various ways of dealing with and communicating about. That's a fact. One you don't seem to be aware of at all. That hasn't been displayed so far anyhow.
      At any rate, the video was good. Got a few things wrong, like how Saw was a 2004 release not a 2003 release (though it's script was supposedly being worked on around '01.)
      But I think it was a very informed analysis on two very controversial games. Very violence games. Games that may even allow people to talk about violence more critically, even if it wasn't the intention of the developers (though that's been a debate about the first game in particular for many years whether it was or wasn't.)
      I hope to see more videos talking about similar points in the times ahead!

      I appreciate your insight, not everybody appreciates the underlying points I try to make so it's gratifying to read such a thoughtful synopsis on my video. Thank you for your kind words. Also, really not sure how I made such a simple mistake with the Saw release date, but the feedback definitely inspires me to be ever more vigilant with the QC on my scripts haha
