- Is it time to bring back HS2?
The controversial project was scrapped over rising costs but there are growing calls to bring it back.
The Chancellor hasn't ruled it out - so is it a good idea, or a waste of money?

It wasn’t about the speed necessarily it was about increasing capacity, which is still going to be needed in some way
Let’s focus how to get people on the train in the first place, by making platforms and the layout of the stations more accessible for disabled travellers.
The world needs more of Owen Jones wisdom😂😂😂😂
totally agree whilst Dehenna talking Tory nonsense only made perfect sense. They've done such a good job over the past decade.
Oh yes,the man supposed to support the working classs!🤣
When owen went to the dentist to have his wisdom teeth taken out after half an hour looking for them he gave up
I'm pro HS2, but there is no hurry to get it up north if the north wants East west connectivity more. Give the north what they ask for don't force what you think they want or need. You can add to HS2 north of Birmingham at a later time. But the main issue is keeping the land up north owned by HS2. If you sell it again which seems to be the case, it will just cost more at later date to get it back again. This is problem with railway building, acquisition of land and the cost.
100% , it should go to Manchester and Leeds , maybe at a lower speed spec with private funding with the government providing a rate of return , it’s the only way to level up . Build the line from Leeds to Maria Bradford too .
No, it was always going to be a waste of money. Whichever way you look at it, what should have happened is the money split all over for local councils to use
The more owen says 😂
Owen is talking facts!
Nope. The money would of been better spent upgrading the regular network. This was always a white elephant, a vanity project and just a way of the big construction companies to make some big money - rather a decent transport project for the UK.
Bring back HS2? It is still going, look at the progress on their youtube channel haha
No most peopl set out an.hour before their train is due setvup an app that will allowing them to catch an earlier train if one is on the platform
It was over budget because tory shire counties wanted it tunneled, the northern section was going to be built ugly and more cheaply.
Birmingham city to London
Didn't the tories sold the land
They tried to, but were blocked by the high courts.
Owen talking crap again there is plenty of capacity on the trains it just means some have to travel outside of rush hours and business men use the internet fpr doing deals
Owen talking crap again there is plenty of capacity on the trains it just means some have to travel outside of rush hours and business men use the internet fpr doing deals
The only one talking crap is you, the west coast mainline is at capacity and is the busiest mixed rail one in Europe, if you do not free up capacity then you will have to build more motorways…
@@gorgu08.. arguments that the WCML is "full to capacity" rely on a discredited, out of date forecasting model which overestimates long distance passenger growth & isn't used for anything anymore except to justify the monstrous vanity project that is HS2.
Network Rail's "New Lines Programme Capacity Analysis" shows that WCML capacity is kept artificially low by private operators wanting to maximise profits.
A DfT analysis shows that in peak hours leaving Euston, WCML trains were loaded at just 52.2%.
The blatant corruption within HS2 Ltd that's recently been exposed reveals that the public & the government have been lied to since day one.
Senior executives used misleading projections & stats to ensure that billions of pounds kept flowing into the project.
Whistleblowers claim they were told by bosses to lie about the projects cost & were sacked after speaking out.
They say the government wasn't informed of the real cost of HS2 for years, all while voting on laws that approved its construction.
It's nothing but fraud on a gigantic scale & a massive white elephant since day one.
