I really find the idea of someone posting a review of high school musical that just says “Let Zack Snyder direct Justice League 2 & 3” really hilarious
It's a different perspective in superhero films and supervillains than what people are used to. The abrupt and violent deaths, the non-chronological storytelling and characters might have shocked people who are used to Marvel and DC's fairly bland style of filmmaking
People just think it’s cool and different to hate on the film and tell those who like it they are wrong. Sure, people will dislike the film, but those saying the 2016 is better than the new one and the new one has no redeeming qualities is just flat out nonsense

My Oldman is a comic book guy, and even he barely recognised any of these characters. The difference being, all these characters have appeared in other forms of media before, yet are still incognito.
Count me among the people who don’t need to know the entire history of a character before they are in the story of the movie. If the character is written and acted well i can understand their character with just a little bit of backstory at most

FWIW, it's doing very well on HBO, their second most streamed movie ever, so when you add that to the 90M or so it'll make in the theaters domestically, it'll end up "profitable" for HBO (or lose money if they want for accounting). Given that Disney has asked for a Free Guy sequel based on similar box office and no streaming money yet, I would guess TSS did well enough.
