@@D_H-em2id hmm I have several responses. 1. Children can get pregnant. 2. It is not misleading in any way to use the term “people” to refer to women since women (as you astutely pointed out) do in fact fall into that category. 3. Trans men typically have the biological sex organs of a woman and therefore would be considered men who can get pregnant. It would be medically irresponsible to suggest otherwise. Trans men can get cervical cancer and not screening them for it could be medical malpractice. Spreading hate achieves very little. Stop.

A bit of fear is justified. When my sister was pregnant she had a small fall down the stairs which gave her a broken toe but unbeknownst to the ER doc also caused a small tear in the uterus of my nearly full term sister. She went into labor a day or two later and there were complications due to the tear. When the OB/GYN saw found out about her earlier ER visit he brought that intern/resident into the room showed him the baby in Nicu read him the riot act and told him it was his fault in front of my sister. If the guy could’ve melted into the floor he would have.

@@andreamp09 you cannot use a lot of the usual medication because it might damage the fetus (or at least there’s no data on how it could affect the fetus) and basically have to deviate quite a bit from standard medical procedure. And since most doctors have very little knowledge what medication is fine for pregnant patients the numb panic ensues.

As somebody who was refused care due to being pregnant, here's a rule of thumb: no pregnant person, no baby. If the patient's pregnancy is the issue, transfer to OB. If not, treat the condition they came in for. Most medications are contraindicated for pregnancy anyway, but if you explain the risks to the patient, they can make the decision how they would like to proceed.

I went to the emergency room at like 4 am in severe abdominal pain with vomiting. I had been in serious pain for so long. Half my vomiting was from pain alone. I had my kids naturally, this was serious pain right up there with that. I just wanted to know my baby was okay because I was in my second trimester with my third. I refused the pain meds they offered even though they said they were safe for the baby. I just want comfortable with that. Shift changes, I was treated like a drug addict that wasn’t really in any pain. They gave me something that numbed my GI tract and that helped. I just asked to go home. I could here the nurses making fun of me. It was awful. I’m sure I looked like crap but being in serious pain for hours can make someone not at their best. Here is the amazing part. Someone I know that is full of the Holy Spirit started praying for me in the middle of the night when I finally gave in and was on my way to the hospital. God woke them up 4 a.m. and told them to pray for me so they did. They had a prayer meeting that morning, they all prayed for me. I finally got enough reprieve to sleep after the GI cocktail and going home and I woke up healed. I don’t know what you want to make of that. Don’t know why I’m sharing with you. God works miracles still! That was a small one. He’s working big ones too!

She had gone to the hospital multiple times complaining of severe abdominal pain, but because she was pregnant all they would do was send her up to labor/delivery. As a result, what should have just been a not exactly simple case of appendicitis turned into an emergency surgery where the life of the mother was prioritized over the fetus (me) and as a result I was born prematurely, the pregnancy was exponentially more complicated than it had to be, and I was born with amniotic banding syndrome thankfully only effecting the digits of my left hand.

    This is too accurate 🤣
Had my 3rd baby just a few weeks ago. Went to the ER a few months before she was born with shortness of breath and dizziness. When checking in they asked if I was having contractions (i had told them why I was there). I told them I had Braxton Hicks contractions pretty often. They immediately sent me to labor and delivery who were confused and after talking to me sent me back down to the ER. The sweet L&D nurses explained that it happened frequently and a few days earlier the er had sent a woman to L&D that came in habecause she was pregnant

I relate so hard to the GI doc lol. When I did massage, everyone said I should do prenatal training since I love medically complex cases and am always volunteering to navigate risks other CMTs aren't comfortable working around ... NOOOOO PLEASE ANYTHING BUT THAT! 😆 not only are hormonally intense women not my ideal patient demographic (I can only immerse in so much feminine energy -- and I'm a chick! I'm also autistic/oblivious about politeness norms/just not good with emotionally sensitive people and I've accepted this lol, quickly learned I'm not a good choice for "she's getting married tomorrow" massages either) ... but also pregnancy risks are T E R R I F Y I N G and I don't want to even BREATHE wrong on someone who has a pregnancy! And the world of possible misunderstandings or weird liability accusations it can open up ... Yikes, nope, nope nope nope, I'll stick to pts with insane spinal deformities and fresh joint replacements and whack extreme sports injuries, tyvm! 😂
